When Boko Haram kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls from the remote northeastern village of Chibok, Nigeria, earlier this year, the extremist Islamist group and its fight against the Nigerian government became a major story for the world to rally around. A hashtag spread, celebrities spoke out, and the United States sent in a team to help the Nigerian military.</div>

Six months later, most of the girls kidnapped in Chibok remain captive and negotiations to free them remain inconclusive and confused. Just last week, official statements that Boko Haram would enter talks to free the girls were apparently contradicted by reports that the group had kidnapped more schoolgirls.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
What is life like for the women and girls held captive by Boko Haram? That’s one question Human Rights Watch attempted to answer with a new video, in which the international non-governmental organization interviewed a number of people who had been kidnapped by Boko Haram and were later released or escaped.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the video, released Oct. 27, girls detail how they were forced to convert and marry and, in some cases, were raped. In one particularly horrifying account, a young woman describes how she was forced to go on operations with the insurgents and carry their ammunition; she says she considered grabbing a gun and using it to kill herself.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The video comes as part of a wider 63-page report, “Those Terrible Weeks in their Camp,” which examines the Boko Haram kidnappings and the Nigerian government response to it. HRW reports that the extremist group has kidnapped more than 500 women and girls since 2009.</div>

For its report, HRW interviewed 30 individuals who had been kidnapped by Boko Haram and 16 others who witnessed the abductions.</div>

One describes how Christians were especially targeted: “I was dragged to the camp leader who told me the reason I was brought to the camp was because we Christians worship three gods. When I objected to his claim, he tied a rope around my neck and beat me with a plastic cable until I almost passed out. An insurgent who I recognized from my village convinced me to accept Islam lest I should be killed. So I agreed.”</div>

Another theme is forced marriage, even for young abductees. When one 15-year-old told a Boko Haram commander that she and other girls were too young to get married, he reportedly pointed to his daughter and said: “If she got married last year, and is just waiting till puberty for its consummation, how can you at your age be too young to marry?”</div>

Some of the kidnapped women and girls were even forced to be complicit in Boko Haram’s attacks: HRW says girls as young as 11 may have taken part.</div>

And some suffered rape and sexual abuse. One 15-year-old said: “After we were declared married I was ordered to live in his cave but I always managed to avoid him. He soon began to threaten me with a knife to have sex with him, and when I still refused he brought out his gun, warning that he would kill me if I shouted. Then he began to rape me every night.”</div>

HRW makes a number of recommendations based on the accounts, including asking the Nigerian government to ensure medical and mental health services for victims of abduction and violence.</div>

The Deputy Head of the Gambian Diplomatic Mission, Yusupha Bojang, 54, and his colleagues are accused of ordering 32 metric tonnes of tobacco in just three years.</div>

They abused a scheme which granted them a duty-free tax exemption on goods for personal use by using delivery drivers to send them more than half a million 50g pouches of rolling tobacco, Southwark Crown Court heard. </div>

In some cases they were ordering tobacco worth more than their annual salary but there is no evidence the eight defendants even smoked, the court heard.</div>

Deliveries to the Gambian High Commission were usually taken and signed for by Audrey Leeward, 48, who sat on the front desk, it was said.</div>

Witness Christopher Pelc worked as a driver at the time of the allegations and delivered huge quantities of tobacco to the Mission in Kensington.</div>

He saw Leeward so often that she had a pet name for Mr Pelc, the court heard.</div>

Boxes crammed with pouches of Golden Virginia and Old Holborn tobacco, were collected by Mr Pelc on behalf of International Diplomatic Supplies Ltd (IDS).</div>

He collected the high-value tobacco from the London City Bond Warehouse in Tilbury, Essex, before driving it to the Mission and leaving it in a ‘back room’.</div>

There were ‘frequent occasions’ when neither IDS nor second supply company Chacalli De Decker could meet the Mission’s extraordinary orders for rolling tobacco, the court was told.</div>

Prosecutor Jane Bewsey QC said: ‘You are asked about the size of the boxes, if you look at where we can see that on this particular document [an order form] the Gambian Mission, it says 5 x 50... in total to satisfy this order this order was 10 boxes?</div>

‘That’s correct,’ replied Mr Pelc.</div>

The order was for 1.25kg of tobacco and only made up one part of a larger list of requests for deliveries to the Mission in May 2010.</div>

Another driver said he saw queues of people at the premises who appeared to be purchasing pouches of tobacco, the jury was told.</div>

Over the three-year period the eight defendants - Bojang, First Secretary Gaston Sambou, 48, finance attache Ebrima John, 38, welfare officer Georgina Gomez, 29, Leeward, secretary Hasaintu Noah, 60, driver Veerahia Ramarajaha, 54, and Ida Njie, 42 - collectively ordered or were invoiced for in excess of 530,000 50g pouches, it is said.</div>

Ms Bewsey said there was ‘systematic abuse’ of the privileges granted to diplomatic missions and their staff based in the UK to order goods free from excise duty and VAT.</div>

The ‘commercial’ scale scam led to a loss to the taxpayer of just short of £4.8m over three years, jurors heard.</div>

Four of the defendants - Bojang, Sambou, John and Gomez - were employed as diplomatic staff and were therefore entitled to enjoy the tax-break on goods such as alcohol, perfume and tobacco for personal use.</div>

Leeward, Noah and Ramarajaha were locally employed and therefore not entitled to the privileges.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Njie was employed by the Gambian Tourist Authority whose offices were in the same building as the High Commission.</div>

She was not employed by the Gambian Mission and accordingly she should not have enjoyed any diplomatic privileges, the court heard.</div>

Jurors were told that diplomatic immunity did not apply in this case and all the defendants were subject to UK law.</div>

The purchase of the duty-free goods were permitted on forms authorised by the Head of Mission at the time, Elizabeth Harding.</div>

But in her absence, Bojang was permitted to sign off the purchases and authorised 31 forms for more than 21,000kg of tobacco.</div>

Sambou signed off 29 forms, covering more than 9,000kg, and John signed four, authorising more than 2,000kg of tobacco.</div>

‘In monetary terms this equated to a loss to the UK revenue of duty and VAT not paid of just under £4.8m,’ said Ms Bewsey.</div>

The leader of Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, has released a new video, a military source in Maiduguri confirmed to <i><a href="http://saharareporters.com/2014/10/31/boko-haram-releases-new-video-debunking-ceasefire-and-saying-kidnapped-girls-married">SaharaReporters</a></i>.<br />

According to the source, in the new video Shekau dismissed the much-publicized ceasefire with the Nigerian government as announced by Nigeria's military chief, Alex Badeh, whose hometown of Vintim was captured today in Adamawa State.<br />

The government denied the claim, and in turn, accused Mr. Sanusi of "financial recklessness".</div>

After leaving office, Mr. Sanusi was appointed the Emir of Kano in June, assuming one of the most powerful traditional stools in Nigeria.</div>

His appointment by Kano State's Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, a member of the opposition All Progressives Congress, was opposed by the Presidency which ordered the Emir’s office blockaded for days.</div>

The emir reportedly initiated peace moves, and the two men met for the first time in July during the breaking of the Muslim fast, a yearly routine in which the President meets top government officials who are Muslims and other prominent Islamic leaders in the country.</div>

<i>Premium Times</i>' sources say Thursday's meeting was essentially for reconciliation between the two sides.</div>

The Emir was accompanied to the meeting by all senior members of the Kano Emirate Council, while Vice President Namadi Sambo, the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, Attorney General, Mohammed Adoke, and the Foreign Affairs Minister, Aminu Wali also attended the meeting.</div>

Officials at the meeting say the President urged peace, and announced that he had nothing against the Emir and that he had forgotten everything that happened.</div>

A couple with five children was recently blessed with a set of triplets. The couple, now with eight kids - five boys and three girls - never envisaged going that far in child bearing. But since circumstance had made it so, Mr. & Mrs. Ifeani Benjamin Amadu, from Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, have no option but to accept their fate.Mrs. Amadu told our correspondent that three months into her pregnancy, she had gone for scan only to be told that she was carrying three babies in her womb, a revelation that threw her into fright. Soon after she was delivered of the babies at Ajeromi General Hospital, Ajegunle, Lagos, on Saturday, October 27, 2014, the woman and her husband found themselves in a tight corner. They had no money to offset their hospital bills, which stood at ₦150,000.</div>

Mrs. Amadu, while narrating her experiences during and after her pregnancy, pointed out that it was a serious battle. “The pregnancy was not business as usual," she began. "At a point, my whole body became too heavy that I could not do even very common things. I could neither sleep well nor walk freely. Also, bending and bathing were tough for me. In fact, it was as if I was carrying excess load.”</div>

She told <i>Daily Sun</i>, however, that all the problems disappeared immediately after she was delivered of the babies. People kept trooping to the hospital to see the bundles of joy. It was discovered that the triplets were the first to be delivered in the hospital this year.</div>

Though she had a safe delivery and her triplets were in sound health, paying her hospital bills and taking care of the triplets have become a daunting task. Following failure of the couple to foot their hospital bill more than two weeks after delivery, the triplets and their mother could not be discharged.</div>

Unfortunately, Mrs. Amadu, a National Certificate of Education (NCE) holder and a teacher in a private school earns a very lean salary. Her income and that of her husband are nowhere enough for them to cater for the delivery. "I could not save enough for this delivery because my salary is poor," she said. "I tried to get a job in a public school as a teacher, but none came my way. So I decided to manage with the one that I have right now. My husband too planned as much as he could for the task ahead, but we never knew that things would work out this way.  Unfortunately, earlier before my delivery, robbers visited us and carted away some money that my husband had planned to invest in a little business. So, that is why we have found ourselves in this tensed situation."</div>

Mrs. Amadu wants financial support from men and women of goodwill who she believes would have a share in the special blessings being brought by the triplets. "At the moment, we cannot pay the hospital bill due to our severe financial constraints. We are therefore calling on men and women of goodwill like Governors Wille Obiano, Rochas Okorocha, Babatunde Raji Fashola, corporate bodies and other groups and individuals to come to our aid so that we can leave the hospital. I am tired of staying here; I want to go home with my babies," she said.</div>

Her husband, Mr. Ifeani Amadu, also expressed his feelings. "We have been married for 14 years, and since that time, my wife has been fruitful. In fact, we had closed child bearing after four children. But the pregnancies continued to come. After having five children, we never planned having another, yet the sixth came. As a child of God, I have been feeling so bad to encourage abortion or family planning. But now, we have been forced to do it."</div>

He believed that the triplets would serve as a point of contact for others. He described the situation, as a serious one and called on Nigerians to come to the rescue of his family. "I have been thinking about how to get out of this situation. My wife and the triplets have spent close to three weeks in the hospital because I have no money to pay their bill. I am appealing to those who are touched by what my family is going through to assist us financially so that we could pay the hospital bill and cater for the babies too."</div>

I mean, imagine a cash machine with a sign in your local language that translates to FREE ERECTIONS when it actually should translate to FREE CASH. This is exactly the situation in the town of Aberystwyth, Wales in the UK.</div>

The gist is that a Tesco outlet in the town considered having a sign on the ATM written in Welsh language. However, because of translation mistake, a wrong word was used in the Welsh sign. Instead of FREE CASH, the Welsh words used translate to FREE ERECTIONS.</div>

The medical examiner's office, however, tells a different story. They said in the report that the baby suffered a skull fracture, blunt force trauma to the body, and cutting or biting injuries to the chest, hands, fingers, feet and toes.</blockquote>

The boy's mother claims that Jenkins made up the story before eventually calling 911.</blockquote>

Ex-girlfriends of Jenkins who were cited in the criminal complaint in the report said that he has a history of violence and drug use including methamphetamine. According to the reports I monitored on UK's <a href="http://www.mirror.co.uk/"><i>Daily Mirror</i></a> and the <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/"><i>Huffington Post</i></a>, a 47-year old man Jonnie Boggess from Miami in Cabin Creek, Florida was arrested by Kanawha County State Troopers after a tip-off by an animal rights group that he was having sex with his dog, a beagle mix, he named Piglet.<br />

It was reported that an animal organisation had received information the dog was being sexually abused, prompting them to contact the authorities. However, Boggess defended the illegal act, arguing it was 'okay' because <i>"Piglet was more than 40lbs and had been spayed"</i>, adding that they had had <i>"gentle sexual intercourse"</i> according to Sgt Larry O'Bryan of the West Virginia State Police.</div>

"Alvin Cross Jr, of Albany, accidentally sent a text message reading <i><b>You have some weed?</b></i> to his probation officer, WALB reports. Cross was on probation after being sentenced to 15 years in prison for armed robbery offense in 2006, Dougherty County Lt. Lance Montgerard told The Huffington Post in an email. </blockquote>

The gist as I read it on <a href="http://www.express.co.uk/news/weird/523097/Cockerel-Given-ASBO-Crowing">Daily Express</a> is that William, a pet cockerel owned by an octogenarian Mr. Philip Sutcliffe and his wife Caroline, was reported to local authorities by an anonymous neighbor who complained that the cockerel's early morning crows disturb. The couple keep the bird with a small number of other chickens on a farmland next to their home.</div>

However, authorities of the Derbyshire Dales District Council were prompted to launch an investigation in which the bird's cock-a-doodle-doos were monitored after receiving a complaint from a grumpy neighbor. This led to the bird being served with a noise abatement notice for anti-social behavior after authorities found William breached health and safety levels.</div>

As the deadline to silence William was approaching and the couple unable to decide what to do, some kind-heart residents launched a petition to save William insisting he's not a nuisance.</div>
