<b>The police in Lagos have launched a manhunt for an Assistant Superintendent of Police, identified simply as Mohammed, who allegedly shot dead a tricycle driver, Akeem Aranse, during an argument in the Shasha, Akowonjo area.</b></div>

<b>PUNCH Metro</b> learnt that Mohammed, who is attached to the Disaster Management Unit of the Department of Operations, Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja, moved out of his apartment on Unity Close, Egbeda, shortly after the incident.</div>

Our correspondent learnt that Mohammed had boarded a commercial motorcycle (okada) which was hit by the tricyle operator on Kareem Laka Street in the Egbeda area.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was gathered that   the incident led to an argument which degenerated into the killing of the tricycle driver by the ASP.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Eyewitnesses explained that some passersby had tried to settle the skirmish but the police officer   remained adamant.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The officer was said to have eventually brought out his pistol   and shot the tricycle driver.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thirty-one-year-old Akeem, who was said to have been shot in the chest, reportedly died on the spot.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Our correspondent learnt that the matter was reported to policemen at the Shasha division.</div>

When <b>PUNCH Metro</b> visited Akeem's rented apartment on Nusiratu Street, Akowonjo, on Saturday, his tricycle was seen parked outside the house, while friends and neighbours still discussed the incident.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
His elder brother, Sulaimon, said Akeem was planning to visit his wife and only child in Ibadan, Oyo State, when he was killed. He added that the death was a shock to the family.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “We had been living together in this house since he was a boy. We both came from our hometown in the Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State to work in Lagos. He used to visit his family in Ibadan every three weeks. He was planning to go again this weekend when the tragic incident occurred.</div>

“I was at a friend’s place when I was called about the incident. It was very shocking. Akeem did not have a record of street fighting or violence. He was said to have apologised to the police officer, who was not in uniform, but the man still shot him. The police have taken his corpse to a morgue in Yaba.</div>

“The extended family members would be expecting him in Ibadan, but we have told his wife about the incident.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Our correspondent gathered that the police had gone to the ASP’s house, but all efforts to get him had not yielded any result.</div>

Speaking with <b>PUNCH Metro</b>, the Chairman, Tricycle Drivers' Association in Shasha Akowonjo, Mr. Isiaka Yekini, said the union would work with the police at the State Criminal Investigation Department to get the suspect.</div>

He said, “We have been invited by the SCID to come on Monday (today) for questioning.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

“When the incident happened, one of our members trailed the ASP to his apartment on Unity Close. He has, however, fled the house.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
“It was at about 6.30pm on that day that I received a phone call that one of our members had been shot dead. It was very shocking.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was learnt that motorcycle drivers led a delegation to the Shasha Police Division on Wednesday to protest Akeem’s murder.</div>

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that the police were intensifying efforts to arrest the ASP.</div>

He said, “We have identified the policeman, but he has been on the run. We are making efforts to arrest him.</div>

<b>Ogun-East senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu, has said that he got wind of the plot to illegally abduct and take him to the United States of America to face charges of illicit drugs through a friend of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke (SAN).</b></div>

He said this in a petition dated April 15, 2015 to the National Human Rights Commission, seeking the commission's intervention.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Buruji said in the petition that the plot to forcibly extradite him to the US was leaked to his lawyer, Ajibola Oluyede, by another lawyer (name withheld) who was Adoke's friend while on a flight from Lagos to Abuja.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to Oluyede, who authored the petition on behalf of Kashamu, the friend of Adoke witnessed an occasion when former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was mounting pressure on the minister to extradite the senator-elect to the US.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The petition read in part: “On a flight to the Federal Capital, Abuja from Lagos sometime in October 2014 a colleague and friend of our principal partner, R. A. Oluyede, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who is also very close to the AGF, informed Mr. Oluyede of the tremendous pressure that Chief (Olusegun) Obasanjo was bringing upon the AGF for the extradition of Prince Kashamu and that, in one discussion between the AGF and Chief Obasanjo, witnessed by him (the SAN), Chief Obasanjo had boasted that he was making arrangements with some US officials in the region to have Prince Kashamu abducted and flown, in a private plane, to the US.</div>

“He advised that Mr. Oluyede tells Prince Kashamu, known widely to be his client, to be very careful. Prince Kashamu’s enquiry about this information revealed that indeed, there had been moves made by US officials within the region, to secure the assistance of the head of the INTERPOL division in Nigeria, Mr. Solomon Arase, a Deputy Inspector General of Police, for the arrest and delivery to the US officials of Kashamu for transportation to the US without following the due process required by the Nigeria Extradition Act.”</div>

Kashamu had since sued the Chairman, National Drug Laws Enforcement Agency and 11 others over the alleged plot to extradite him to the US.</div>

In a fundamental rights enforcement action he filed before a Federal High Court in Lagos, the senator-elect is seeking a declaration that the move to abduct and forcibly transport him to the US amounted to a violation of his right to liberty, freedom of association and freedom of movement as protected by sections 35, 40 and 41 of the Constitution.</div>

The Federal Government had instituted a suit challenging the powers of the lawmakers to perform its duties under the Constitution.</div>

The decision of President Jonathan to veto the Fourth Alteration Bill to the 1999 Constitution, presented to him, informed the suit.</div>

The President had raised a number of issues including the failure of the lawmakers to produce evidence that it secured the mandatory four-fifth majority in amending Section 9 of the Constitution.</div>

The lawmakers had planned to override the President's veto after a review by the Constitution amendment Committees of the two chambers.</div>

But Abaribe, in an interview with journalists in Abuja, said  the Supreme Court was wrong to stop the lawmakers in the performance of their legislative duties.</div>

He said, “The Supreme Court is wrong. The law does not allow one arm of the government to stop another arm of government from performing its duties.</div>

<b>The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi, has claimed that he was not in any vehicle in his convoy when it drove past an accident scene without offering assistance.</b></div>

Three people were killed on Saturday at Onipepeye Village along Siun-Owode road, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, in the accident that involved two commercial vehicles.</div>

The Speaker was also sighted in one of the vehicles in the convoy by a correspondent and other observers at the scene. The lawmaker, however, claimed he was not in any of the vehicles.</div>

"I am a Rotarian and I know the importance of rendering assistance,” he said on Sunday. </div>

“I was not in the convoy when the accident occurred. My convoy drove past the area, and I was not in the convoy, but in another vehicle with some of my colleagues in the assembly.”</div>

Mr. Adekunbi, however, admitted driving by the scene of the accident.</div>

“As at the time I passed through the scene with my colleagues which include Honourable Tola Banjo, the Deputy Speaker, and Honourable Olayiwola Ojodu, we did not observe any accident. I was in Lagos when I heard of the accident,” he said, while explaining that he did not answer calls to his phone on Saturday because he did not know the identity of the caller.</div>

<b>Less than three weeks before he leaves office, President Goodluck Jonathan has said he expects his ministers and aides to be “persecuted” after his tenure.</b></div>

Mr. Jonathan, whose administration witnessed several corruption scandals, stated this on Sunday at a thanksgiving service organized in his honour at the Anglican Church, Life Camp, Abuja.</div>

He said he believes he lost some allies as well as the March presidential election because of “certain decisions,” he took.</div>

“It (the decisions) might be good for the generality of the people but it might affect some people differently,” the president said. “So for ministers and aides who served with me, I sympathize with them, they will be persecuted. And they must be ready for that persecution.”</div>

Mr. Jonathan said he expected that he and his ministers would have a hard time after he leaves office.</div>

“To my ministers, I wish you what I wish myself,” he said. “They will have hard times, we will all have hard times. Our ways will be rough.”</div>

Indications that some officials of the Jonathan administration would be investigated for corrupt activities emerged after the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari- vowed to probe the ‘missing’ $20 billion in the state oil firm, NNPC. The money, which was first made public by the immediate past Central Bank governor, Lamido Sanusi, remained an albatross on the neck of the Jonathan administration which repeatedly claimed its officials did nothing wrong.</div>

<b>A leader of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a member of the Board of Trustees, Chief Bode George, says the statement of the spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the delay in compilation of the handover note by the current administration was immature and absolutely unnecessary.</b></div>

She commended the Muslims for their support for the current administration, and called on them to extend the same hand of fellowship to the incoming administration of Buhari.</div>
