<b>LAGOS, NIGERIA - A 45-year old Lawrence Agbe (pictured above) was yesterday July 7th arrested by security officials at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport Ikeja Lagos while trying to transport fake dollar bills totaling $2.1 million from Lagos to Abuja.</b></div>

While speaking on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police for the command, Mr. Fredrick Lakanu, said during interrogation Lawrence said the fake dollar bills were owned by one Steve.</div>

"After further interrogation, the suspect mentioned one Steve residing in Abuja as the owner of the said €1.25m. But Steve is at large," CP Lakanu said.</div>

<b>NEW YORK, USA - When Faatimah Knight reached out to her Muslim friends and acquaintances to try and help black churches that had been destroyed by fire, she had no idea how much they could raise.</b></div>

Today, they have managed to raise just under $30,000 - money that will be used to help up to seven churches that were destroyed in the American south in the aftermath of the Charleston shooting and the campaign against the Confederate flag.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"We have been overwhelmed by how generous people have been," Ms Knight, 23, told <i><b><a href="http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/american-muslims-raise-30000-to-help-repair-black-churches-destroyed-by-fire-10375704.html">The Independent</a>. </b></i>"We will stop it today...We will figure out how to distribute the money."</div>

Ms Knight's campaign – carried out as Muslims around the world marked the festival of Ramadan - followed a smaller, more modest enterprise she had set in action in the days after the shooting dead of nine people at Charleston's Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on June 17. She and some friends wanted to raise $500 to send flowers; they ended up raising $900.</div>

And when she and the same friends read about the series of churches that were burned down and the probe by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, they similarly wanted to act.</div>

A number of Muslim organisations have responded to her call Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative, the Arab American Association of New York and Ummah Wide - but she said people of other faiths had also donated.</div>

"It's Ramadan and we are experiencing firsthand the beauty and sanctity of our mosques during this holy month," says a message posted on the launchgood.com website.</div>

"All houses of worship are sanctuaries, a place where all should feel safe, a place we can seek refuge when the world is too much to bear."</div>

Ms Knight, a Masters student at the Chicago Theological Seminary, said of her acquaintances some people had questioned the campaign and asked why she was raising money for Christian houses of worship, as opposed to a Muslim cause. But most were supportive.</div>

She Islam taught of the need to protect the weak and vulnerable. She said while the black Christian communities of the South might not be weak, they were vulnerable.</div>

"I'm a black person and I do identify with the wider black community at that level," she said. "Historically, the black community has been vulnerable."</div>

She added: "Traditionally, when we have been on our best behaviour, we have created space for other faiths, and let people worship as they see fit."</div>

<b>An event in 1998 has changed the Nigerian history. By June 1998 Sani Abacha had ruled Nigeria for almost five years. Isolated by the West, Abacha had promised democratic election and a transition to the civilian rule by October 1998, but with just months to go the country's five licensed political parties all nominated general Abacha as their candidate for president, his rule looked set to continue.</b></div>

Professor Sadiq Suleiman Wali was General Sani Abacha's personal doctor. Professor Wali describes Abacha as "a quiet person, calm person. He could be really firm on some issues, but normally he didn't talk much."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Professor Wali has served as physician to the three previous Nigerian Heads of State after being reluctantly recruited to that role in the early 1980s. He considered himself politically neutral and lived outside the sprawling heavily guarded presidential complex known as Aso Rock in the capital Abuja. But he was a fixture in the presidential entourage.</div>

Professor Wali says Abacha's health was OK just before his death. "Abacha was generally healthy though he had some health issues, he was treated, he's responded [to that treatment] very well. He didn't have any heart-related diseases at that time," Wali told<i><b>Witness</b></i> on <b>BBC</b>.</div>

On the 7 of June, 1998  Wali'd been with Abacha, as he hosted the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and all seemed well. The next morning General Sani Abacha was due to fly to the OAU summit being held in Burkina-Faso and professor Wali was due to go with him.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Professor Wali recounts that "around 6am I had a phone call from his security officers, and they said: 'please come, come to the Villa, come urgently!' Before I even could get ready, they came and picked me. I had no idea what it all was about."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The car carrying the doctor sped towards the presidential villa through a special entrance – a shortcut which only the president was allowed to use.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The doctor realised something was seriously wrong.</div>

I arrived then I saw chief security there and he said: 'doctor come in, please, come in!' We all rushed and I just saw the president. There was another doctor who came earlier, resuscitating him. Abacha was in the sitting room. He was on the couch. He was in his normal work clothes. I didn't panic. I've seen a lot of serious problems before in my practice, but to affect him was very tough, definitely. I joined and we did as much as we could to resuscitate him. But I realised that he was dead because he was foaming. We just continued resuscitation and even injected some things, but it didn't work.</blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After 40 minutes trying to resuscitate the stricken General, Professor Wali declared that General Abacha had died. "I said, sorry – there's nothing we can do".</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

There was no immediate public announcement. In the country prone to coups, Abacha's head of security first increased the guard around the presidential complex and then called the heads of the armed forces to gather to decide on the replacement.</div>

"Immediately the security officer took over, and he invited all the service chiefs to come to Abuja, by then most of them were based in Lagos," says doctor Wali.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

When the service chiefs arrived, some of them asked to see the body to pay their respect to their former leader.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"They wanted to make sure, that he is dead. And some of them were crying," Wali informed the BBC.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Professor informed the family of what had happened. Obviously, the sudden death of an apparently healthy Head of State raised a few questions.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Professor Wali was determined that there should be an autopsy to find out what caused the sudden heart attack. After much deliberating, the family declined, preferring the quick burial in line with Islamic tradition. But the doctor was determined to find some clues as to what have happened.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
I still try to take some samples of blood and urine and hair and things like that, just thinking for the future chemical tests. It's very difficult to say [whether he died of natural causes]. What I can see. The blood test we did, has shown some raised cardiac enzymes [proteins that are released into the blood by dying heart muscles]. That's why we thought maybe it was cardiac attack.</blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Every Nigerian has his own theory about what happened to General Abacha. There are rumours that he has been poisoned, or that he spent a night entertaining young ladies. Professor Wali conmented on those rumours that "when I entered [Abacha's premises], there were no ladies. It might be true but I did not see them. Concerning the poison, as I said no post-mortem has been done, so I couldn’t assure whether he was poisoned or it was a heart attack."</div>

While the generals deliberated on who would take over, plans were made to take Abacha’s body in his hometown of Kano later that day. It was decided to finally tell the public what had happened.  But the mystery around Abacha’s death still remains seventeen years after his sudden and unexpected demise.</div>

<b>ABUJA, NIGERIA - The Presidency has rubbished claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that President Muhammadu Buhari’s bailout funds for the state was gotten from savings of former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan.</b></div>

In a statement issued by Femi Adesina, special adviser on media and publicity to Buhari, he noted that Nigeria’s main opposition party’s claim was false, banal and ludicrous. “The Presidency deplores the attempt by the PDP and its agents to create an unnecessary controversy over the well-intentioned effort by President Muhammadu Buhari to give some relief to state governments and long-suffering public sector workers,” the statement said.</div>

“We also reject the banal and ludicrous demand by the PDP Spokesman, Olisa Metuh that the PDP Government which was ousted by Nigerians at the last general elections for running the country aground, be given some credit for “saving” the funds that were disbursed as part of the intervention package approved by President Buhari.</div>

“Mr. Metuh’s claim that a significant amount of the funds came from savings accumulated in the Excess Crude Account and handed over to the Buhari administration is completely false and deliberately intended to mislead the public.</div>

“As we clearly stated yesterday, the funds approved by President Buhari for sharing to the three tiers of government on Monday came entirely from dividends and taxes paid to the Federation Account by the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Company (NLNG), not from the Excess Crude Account.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The disbursed NLNG dividends and taxes were paid into the Federation Account in June this year and confirmed by the Central Bank’s Statement to the Federal Government on July 7, 2015. The funds cannot therefore be considered “savings” by the Jonathan Administration which left office in May, 2015, as disingenuously claimed by Mr. Metuh.</div>

“Instead of being repeatedly impugned and castigated by the PDP and its agents for honestly telling Nigerians that the nation’s treasury has been immensely depleted and its resources looted or squandered under previous administrations, President Buhari should be commended for the openness, transparency and accountability which he has now brought to the management of national funds.</div>

“It was in keeping with that disposition, that the President promptly disclosed the accrual of the NLNG dividends and taxes to the Federation Account at his recent meeting with State Governors and approved the convening of a special session of the FAAC to share it.</div>

“As a state governor who was present at the meeting remarked, under past administrations, the states never had the benefit of such disclosures.</div>

“Mr. Metuh and others who now ungratefully see Monday’s disbursement of the NLNG proceeds as their “legitimate” earnings and not a “bailout” from the Federal Government may wish to tell Nigerians if such earnings were ever disclosed by the PDP Federal Government and paid to the states in the past.</div>

Chasing Food Dreams Across U.S., Nigerian Chef Tests Immigration System

<b>WASHINGTON D C, USA - Most aspiring chefs long for the white hat, the gleaming kitchen, the fancy menu.</b></div>

<b>But Nigeria-born Tunde Wey stumbled into a different version of the (American) chef's dream. He wanted to see the country and share the food of his West African childhood with friends and strangers along the way.</b></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
So a few months ago, he packed up his knives and his spices at his home in Detroit and started crisscrossing the U.S. by Greyhound bus.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He wowed diners in New Orleans, Chicago and Buffalo with his one-man pop-up dinner events, <a href="http://www.fromlagos.com/">Lagos</a>, named after his hometown in Nigeria. He cooked his way up and down the East Coast.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Word got around. His one-night cooking gigs began selling out.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
But then, like many immigrants to the U.S., Tunde Wey discovered how quickly success can come tumbling down.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I caught up with him the day he was preparing dinner in Washington, D.C., and getting rhapsodic about his ingredients.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Palm oil is like the sexier, more full-bodied oil to, like, regular cooking oil," he tells me. "It just has soul, you know."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wey is kind of like a traveling showman. For every dinner party he throws in a new city, he has to scramble to find, and then borrow, a space. Sometimes it's a restaurant, sometimes it's a communal kitchen where food entrepreneurs smoke and bake and boil their wares.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

On the day we meet up, he has taken over a restaurant called <a href="http://tokiunderground.com/#/">Toki Underground</a>. Its stove usually has broth and ramen noodles simmering on it, but Wey has replaced them with a huge vat of goat head stew.</div>

"Gonna be some eyeballs in this, and some mandibles - just the jaw of the goat," he says as he stirs. "People are going to eat some teeth today."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Wey has been at it since 9 a.m. It's now midafternoon, and he's moving between a blender, four massive pots slick with that sexy palm oil, and his spice bag.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">

This bag is Wey's most important prop, and it's filled with things like alligator pepper seeds, calabash nutmeg and uda, a kind of pepper.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

"So all of this stuff is in here, and sometimes I'll have stock fish, which smells so bad," he says.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wey never actually planned to become a chef. His parents dreamed that he would become a doctor, and they sent him to the U.S. when he was 16 to study science. But 15 years later, after a string of college majors and false starts, he realized he wanted to cook. He didn't have any formal training, though.</div>

"I learned how to cook from watching my parents, my aunt, a lot of YouTube videos in between all that," he says. "The benefit that I have is that I grew up with this food, so I know exactly what it's supposed to taste like."</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The idea for the Nigerian pop-up came to him after a brief stint at an American restaurant he co-founded in Detroit called <a href="http://www.revolverhamtramck.com/">Revolver</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
As Wey spent more time in the kitchen, he found that he missed his family more and more - he hadn't seen his parents and his eldest brother back in Nigeria for seven years. So as he planned the pop-up, he turned to his parents for help with everything from recipes to music.</div>

"My family was interested in the details of the business, and I had these conversations with them," he says. "And I felt more connected, actually, infinitely more connected."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

And he shares that connection when he makes his food for other people.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"When I was younger, my mom used to give me kisses on my cheek, and she would be like, you know, be all sloppy and I would do the same. Just that feeling of being kissed - I get that when I'm eating. So it's evocative; that's how food affects me."</div>

And he hopes his diners will feel it, too.</div>

When I met him in D.C. in December, Wey had been on the road cooking for two months. And he'd pretty much got his rhythm down.</div>

It's 7 p.m., and the show is on. "That spinach dish I am holding in my hand right now is absolutely amazing, and I would kill for the recipe," says Sarah Moulton. "And my mouth has burned off from the goat pepper soup."</div>

She's here with her friend Tiffany Farchione, who chimes in about the goat pepper soup: "It's hot and it hurts, but you still want more because it's so delicious."</div>

And as for the goat head? Diner Dave Grossman pronounces it "delicious, expertly stewed, really quite thrilling."</div>

That night, Wey was on a roll. He had a string of gigs lined up in several other cities, some seating up to 50 people at $55 a head.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Soon after, he got his biggest break: The celebrity chef Roy Choi invited him to his Los Angeles restaurant on Feb. 5. The <b>New York Times</b>' Sam Sifton told Wey he was flying out to be there.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
But Wey never made it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On the way to LA, when his Greyhound bus stopped outside of El Paso, Texas, Border Patrol agents climbed aboard. They were not impressed with his old Nigerian passport.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As Wey remembers it, "I had this uncontrollable chill; I was so cold. And there was so much adrenaline rushing through my body."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The thing was, back in 2007, while he was figuring out what to do with his life, he'd let his student visa expire.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"I just thought, I'll fix this: I'm going to go back to school, finish school, and adjust my status somehow," he says. "And so it was something I kept putting off."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But instead of cooking in LA, he was locked up in an El Paso detention center in early February for several weeks. Wey said it seemed like everything he'd built - from the pop-up to his life in America - was tumbling down.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
But Wey has been lucky.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Almost half the people in the U.S. illegally are like him - they let visas expire. But Wey had a clean record and a network of friends and family. They raised $6,000. And so he wasn't deported, and he's now out on bail.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"I'm sometimes frustrated that it's limiting, but I mean, I'm comfortable with the reality that is my life," he says. "I'm not ashamed of it."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Because there's such a backlog in the immigration courts, Wey has a bit of a reprieve.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
His next appointment with an immigration judge isn't until 2017. The judge will decide then whether he's allowed to stay. Or must go.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the meantime, he's planning more dinners. And he has just opened a Nigerian food stall in the <a href="http://www.strochmarket.com/">St. Roch Market</a> in New Orleans.</div>

Bimbo Ayelabola, 33, had two boys and three girls in April by caesarean section and remained in hospital for almost two weeks, costing the NHS up to £200,000.</div>

Her visitor's visa has expired and she is now fighting to remain in this country, claiming a return to her home city of Lagos would leave her homeless and without a "support network" to help her raise her five children.</div>

However the <i><b>Daily Mail </b></i>has learnt that her husband, who remains in Nigeria, is a wealthy businessman.</div>

University-educated Ohi Nasir Ilavbare is chief executive of his own logistics company whose clients include British American Tobacco  and DHL.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

He also owns and runs an upmarket hotel and business centre in an exclusive suburb of Lagos, where his company, Spry Logistics, is based.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Suites at the facility in a gated complex cost £100  a night. The average  annual wage in Nigeria is around £300.</div>

A neighbouring trader described Mr Ilavbare as ‘very rich’, while an employee confirmed ‘he is the managing director here, he owns this place’. Repeated attempts to contact him via his office have proved unsuccessful.</div>

He and his wife seem to have remained in close touch while she has been in England. Until recently the profile picture on his Facebook page was of five babies lying on a bedspread. </div>

But she claims he abandoned her and fled back to Nigeria when he discovered she was having quins.</div>

Yet the children's birth certificates show he was in London three weeks after the babies were delivered on April 28, as both parents signed the documents at Hackney register office on May 18.</div>

The businessman's apparent wealth, and presence by  his wife's side, contradicts  Mrs Ayelabola's claims that she is alone and struggling to afford £70 a week for baby milk and nappies.</div>

Under the terms of her visitor’s visa, which expired last month, Mrs Ayelabola is unable to work in the UK or claim any benefits.</div>

He went on to be general manager of an oil transport and distribution firm before setting up his current company in 2005. He is a member of the Nigerian Society  of Engineers.</div>

The multiple births are likely to be the result of high-dose fertility tablets which Mrs Ayelabola purchased over the counter in Lagos.</div>

She said in an interview: "I had already had miscarriages and couldn't bear the stress another pregnancy would cause. So I decided to visit my family in London.</div>
