<b>ABUJA, NIGERIA - President Muhammadu Buhari is said to be considering some measures that would cement his relationship with former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu, following the cracks between the duo over the management of National Assembly leadership crisis.</b></div>

Sources close to the APC confirmed to the <a href="http://tribuneonlineng.com/apc-crisis-buhari-moves-pacify-tinubu-ex-lagos-gov-get-more-ministerial-nominees">Nigerian Tribune</a> that the presidency had discovered lately that Tinubu was angry and had been putting some measures in place to pacify the national leader of APC.</div>

Tinubu’s camp was said to have been angered by Buhari’s failure to back its strategies that would have ensured the emergence of candidates of the party for the positions of Senate president and Speaker of the House of Representatives.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was learnt that Tinubu was particularly angry that Buhari did not make good his promise to address APC legislators at the International Conference Centre on June 9, leading to the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate president.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was also gathered that Tinubu's loyalists fingered Buhari’s men in the uprising that shut out the former Lagos governor from the last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, held in Abuja, last week.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Though Tinubu is not a member of NEC statutorily, no one really made an issue out of that until Buhari assumed office.</div>

Some Tinubu loyalists said they suspected the presidency might have given tactical backing to the group of former governors, who threatened to storm the meeting if Tinubu was allowed at the venue.</div>

It was, however, gathered on Thursday in Abuja that Buhari had resolved to pacify Tinubu, so that the party would not break up under his watch.</div>

A source said the presidency was considering giving Tinubu four ministerial slots, to compensate for the loss of House Speaker and Senate President.</div>

It was also gathered that Buhari's late rally of Senator Ahmad Lawan group and loyalists of Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila was stemmed out of his belief that Tinubu had to be accommodated to further consolidate the APC.</div>

But sources in the party said that there are some hardliners who were of the view that Buhari could continue to call Tinubu’s bluff, having assumed the position of party leader.</div>

A former security chief and another retired secret service agent were said to be heading the crew of Buhari loyalists urging the president to call Tinubu’s bluff.</div>

<b>ABUJA, NIGERIA - The resignation letter of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki, has been rejected by President Muhammadu Buhari, <i>gongnews</i> has reported. </b></div>

The report said Dasuki's resignation was rejected on the ground that he must account for funds received and spent under his tenure in the prosecution of the Boko Haram insurgency.</div>

<b>LAGOS, NIGERIA - A 33-year-old man, Stephen Itodo, has been arrested and charged before an Oshodi Magistrates' Court for raping a mentally deranged woman (not pictured above).</b></div>

The incident reportedly happened at Alhaji Shehu Close, Oshodi, Lagos, when Itodo sneaked into the room the victim was kept in her father's compound where she was receiving treatment from some traditional healers to cure her madness, and raped her when her family had gone out for the day's business.</div>

It was a neighbour who suspected Itodo's moves as he entered the room, who went to peep and see him on top of the lunatic. The neighbour raised an alarm and before he could escape, he was apprehended.</div>

But in his statement in court, Itodo denied raping the woman, claiming she gave her consent for him to have sex with her.</div>

When the charges were read to Itodo, he pleaded not guilty to the act of rape and was granted bail in the sum of ₦50,000 by Magistrate Akeem Fashola while he is to be remanded in Kirikiri Prison custody, until he meets the bail conditions.</div>

<b>LAGOS, NIGERIA - A 39-year-old trader, Mrs Modinat Idowu, told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos State on Thursday that she would continue to deny her husband, one Akeem Idowu, sex until he has paid the debt he is owing her.</b></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Idowu said this while responding to a suit filed by her 45-year-old husband whom he had been married to for 12 years.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"I have been denying my husband sex because he borrowed ₦690,000 from me and has refused to pay, I will continue to starve him of sex until he pays the money," the mother of two said.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Akeem is in the habit of swearing and cursing me with a charm called <i>'Ishan egungun' </i>: a specially prepared masquerade’s rod and this is affecting my life."<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She, however, urged the court not to grant her husban's wish for the dissolution of their marriage, saying that she was still in love with him.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The petitioner, Akeem, a businessman, had asked the court to dissolve the 12-year-old marriage over alleged sex denial by his wife.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"My wife does not want me to touch her nor make love to her, I am tired of the marriage because I am neither a stick nor a stone," he said.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Akeem alleged that his wife loved attending social activities and hardly stayed at home.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Whenever she went out, she would not return home until after five days or seven days, he said.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"My wife will go from one party to another; spending days and neglecting the family.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"I have reported her severally to her father who always calls her to order but there has been no positive change," Akeem told the court.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He described Modinat as a liar, not trustworthy and always inconsistent in her words and actions.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Modinat lies a lot. One day, she told me that she was going to Mushin in Lagos state; but some hours later, someone called to tell me that she was in Igbo-Ora in Oyo state.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"When I called her and confronted her that she was in Oyo state as against Mushin she claimed she was going to when she left home, she cut her cell phone line.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"She took permission on another day that she was going to Oshodi, but someone saw her at Ijebu-Ode in Ogun, I cannot just account for her movement," Akeem said.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He pleaded with the court to dissolve the union since he was no longer interested and did not love her any more.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The President of the court, Mr Hakeem Oyekan, adjourned the case to July 22 for further hearing.<br />

<b>KANO, NIGERIA - A federal court has ordered a former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, and his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, accused of fraud, to be remanded in prison custody in Kano till September 28.</b></div>

The former governor was arraigned on Thursday alongside his children for receiving ₦1.35 billion kickback from a government contractor.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

The money was paid into accounts controlled by the governor and his sons.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused the trio of money laundering, amongst other charges.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They were due for arraignment Wednesday, but the court appearance was rescheduled to Thursday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Security was stepped up around the court vicinity in Kano ahead of the hearing Thursday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Delivering her judgement, Justice Evelyn Anyadike ruled that the four accused persons be remanded in a Kano Prison Custody because the EFCC said they lacked enough facilities to accommodate them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
She rejected the pleas of defense counsel, Effiong Effiong (SAN) that the accused by kept at EFCC custody, saying the commission had complained of adequate facilities.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Twenty-eight count charge bordering on a number of alleged breach of trust by Sule Lamido, Aminu Sule Lamido, Mustapha Sule Lamido and one Aminu Wada Abubakar, was read in the court.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The case involved ₦1.351 billion.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The judge ruled that the accused persons be remanded pending the hearing of their bail applications.</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Earlier, the defense counsel, Mr. Effiong had argued that remanding the accused persons in prison will amount to trampling on their fundamental human rights.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He pleaded they be sent to EFCC facilities.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, the counsel to EFCC, Chile Okoroma, objected to the plea saying their (EFCC's) facilities were full to capacity both in Kano and Abuja.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The case was adjourned to 28 September for ruling on bail application.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
There was pandemonium in court between those supporting Mr. Lamido and those against, leading police to fire into the air to disperse the crowd.</div>

Blaise was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on one court charge of money laundering sequel to his arrest at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos for being in possession of Five Hundred and Eleven Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty Five United States dollars ($511,225.00), cash which he failed to declare to the officers and men of the Nigerian Customs Service as required by the provisions of Section 2(3) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended by Act No. 1 of 2012).</div>

He had pleaded not guilty upon arraignment but after diligent prosecution by the EFCC, Justice Buba found him guilty as charged.</div>

The court is satisfied that the prosecution proved his case beyond reasonable doubt and thereby finds you Kutumisana Mbuta Blaise guilty of the allegation contained in the one count charge before the court and hereby convict you of the offence of failure to declare the sum of Five Hundred and Eleven Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty Five United States of America Dollars ($511,225) in contravention to section 2(3) Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011 (as amended by Act No. 1 of 2012) and punishable under section 2(5) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended by Act No. 1 of 2012).</blockquote>

He added: "Martins Ugwu has been parading himself as a medical doctor in the Federal Ministry of Health in Abuja for almost one decade and was among medical volunteers trained by the ministry in conjunction with African-Union Support to Ebola Outbreak in West-Africa (ASEOWA) mission in Liberia."</div>

Severally, there were biometrics verification, but I survived them, I was the NMA chairman in 2008. Federal Ministry of Health, I don't think has the mechanisms for that. <b>NAPLES, ITALY - Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been sentenced to three years in jail for bribing a senator to switch factions in a move which helped topple the then government in 2008.</b></div>

The court in southern Italian city of Naples also banned him from holding any public office for five years, the judge said on Wednesday.</div>

But the 78-year-old will not actually have to serve any time in prison because of legal technicalities, his lawyer, Niccolo Ghedini, said.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ghedini slammed the verdict as "unjust and unjustified" but said the case would reach its statute of limitations on November 6.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Since no legal action can be taken after that date, the guilty verdict will have no legal consequences for Berlusconi as there is not enough time for his case to come to be judged on appeal.</div>

"It was a good trial, passionate, but in terms of consequences the imminent expiration date takes all the pathos out of the verdict," said prosecutor Henry John Woodcock.</div>

The case revolved around an alleged plot to destabilise a 2006-08 centre-left government.</div>

Bribes totalling three million euros ($3.3m) were paid through an intermediary to Senator Sergio De Gregorio to get him to leave the coalition of then premier Romano Prodi.</div>

The idea was to further weaken an already fragile coalition and the defection was widely seen as hurting Prodi's government, which collapsed in 2008, two years after it was elected.</div>

Berlusconi's centre-right Forza Italia party won the resulting election and he served a third term as Italian premier until 2011.</div>

In summing up the bribery case, prosecutor Vincenzo Piscitelli had told the court the payoff was part of "a colossal economic investment made with the aim of achieving the sole goal that interested Berlusconi, who was obsessed by his desire to kick Prodi out and take his post".</div>

The prosecution had called for a five-year sentence. Berlusconi was not in court to hear the verdict, delivered by tribunal president Isabella Romani.</div>

The case was just one in a string of legal woes for the media tycoon. Earlier this year, he completed a community service order for corporate tax fraud but was cleared of having sex with an under-age dancer known as Ruby the Heart-stealer after judges ruled he could not have known she was a minor.</div>
