<b>Self-acclaimed ex-militant generals Wednesday gathered in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, to decry the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta's (MEND) endorsement of the APC standard-bearer, Muhammadu Buhari.</b></div>

While the <b>Ijaw Youths Council</b> (IYC) through its spokesperson, <b>Eric Omare</b>, described the adoption of Buhari by the "ghost" MEND as inconsequential and of no electoral value. They also reminded supporters that elections are won by votes cast by "physical" and "verifiable" human beings.</div>

<b>Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta</b> self-described ex-militant leader, <b>Eris Paul</b>, known as <i><b>General Ogunbos</b></i>, said the purported endorsement of Buhari by the defunct MEND is laughable and a clear call to the Niger Delta people to be ready for war against invading political elements sponsored by the leaders of the <b>All Progressive Congress</b> (APC).</div>

In his reaction, Paul, whose reputation has reportedly earned him a ban from his community of <b>Peremabiri</b> in Bayelsa State, accused those purported to be MEND members of being sponsored and paid the sum of ₦500,000 by a former Governor of Bayelsa and a serving Governor of a South-South state to embark on the allegedly fake endorsement plan and orchestrate an orgy of violence in the region.</div>

<b>MEND</b>, through its familiar mouthpiece, Jomo Gbomo, had issued a statement yesterday <b><a href="http://nigerianewsroom.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/cest-fini-niger-delta-militant-group.html">declaring its support for the aspiration of General Muhammadu Buhari</a></b> as APC presidential candidate.</div>

Paul, who led others from the region, said though the people of the Niger Delta do not subscribe to violence, they will attack states controlled by the opposition party if their region comes under attack. </div>

<i>"We will react violently to any calculated plan by the opposition political leaders to sponsor some few disgruntled elements in the Niger Delta to perpetuate violence. If there is any attack in the Niger Delta, it will be met by multiple attacks in the States under their control,"</i> he threatened.</div>

<i>"In a situation where the people of the Niger Delta have decided to adopt a non-violence posture due to the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, it should not mean that we are cowards. If they buy bombs, we will produce bombs."</i></div>

Paul said the founders of MEND and other former freedom fighters in the region are solidly behind President Goodluck Jonathan. <i>"We want to clearly dissociate ourselves from the purported statement by MEND. In a statement, Omare said the IYC was not surprised by the adoption of Buhari by the purported group labelled as MEND. </div>

He could not use his "Omnipotent Government" to suppress the vices because he is a beneficiary of the self-inflicted crises. President Jonathan's government has been a major source of mischief and disaster ever witnessed in Nigeria. Granted that the worst evils which mankind ever had to endure were inflicted by governments in human history, but there come a time the people strive for change, and the time is now.</div>

Boko Haram is a great grand child of the same unemployment, mass looting, and poor governance.</i></div>

I quoted the Catholic Priest at great length because of his religious standing, his following, his geopolitical firmament and the ethno-religious sentiments that have dampened Nigeria political growth. Political leaders who failed to fulfil electoral promises to the electorate deliberately appeal or exploit ethnocentric and religious sentiments of their selfish gains in sections of the country. No Nigerian leader has gained popularity through divisive politicking, ethno-religious grandstanding than President Goodluck Jonathan. Then what is government if it is not to promote human happiness and welfare?</div>

All the blemishes plaguing this administration came as a result of the parasitic sycophants who give the president a halo of false glory and are Hell bent on feasting dangerously on the nation's easy oil wealth. The reason, lamentably, is that Mr Jonathan didn't attain ideological maturation before he found himself in the corridors of power. He is being goaded on by dint of virtual Providence and veritable Luck. Minds more developed and ideologically balanced have proved that one of the greatest bequests to modern civilisation and governance is not entirely humility, but a great deal of granite hardness, as the need arises to trample on closest friends who stand in the way of the masses.</div>

With one stroke of abhorrence for corruption, President Jonathan could have transformed Nigeria. The President who ought to be a man of staggering political genius, an incredible reformer by the reason of his education and experience has yielded to crass opportunism and mega-corruption.</div>

They also allegedly sold handwritten copies to students while Dube gave some copies of the papers to Munjanja, the cook.</div>

<b>Nigeria Newsroom</b> gathered from a <b>Punch</b> report that four of the youths, 17-year-old <b>Yusuf Abdullahi</b>, 18-year-old <b>Deji Bamgbala</b>, a 26-year-old <b>Lekan Bamgbala</b> and an unnamed fourth victim, were shot, leading to a melee in which others were injured.</div>

According to reports, Ubi was part of a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer of the <b>Adeniji Adele Police Station</b>, drafted to stop the carnival.</div>

Ubi and another officer, both in plain clothes, had left the team to the carnival ground where the former shot indiscriminately at the youth.</div>

<b>Somalia’s Al-Shebab militants have executed four people accused of spying for the United States, Ethiopia and the country’s internationally-backed government, officials and witnesses said.</b></div>

The executions by firing squad took place at a square in the town of <b>Bardhere</b>, a Shebab stronghold in Somalia’s southwestern region of <b>Gedo</b>, late Tuesday, and came a week after the US said it had killed the Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants’ intelligence chief in an air strike.</div>

“One of the spies worked with the CIA and facilitated the killing of an Al-Shebab commander,” a Shebab judge in the town said before the four were shot dead.</div>

According to the judge, another one of those executed had been aiding US operations in <b>Barawe</b>, a port town and former Shebab stronghold that was captured last year by Somali and African Union forces, while the other two worked for Ethiopian intelligence and Somalia’s security agency.</div>

“After hearing the charges against the four and their confession, the Islamic court sentenced them to the death penalty,” the judge said.</div>

“The men were blindfolded and shot from the back by a team of hooded gunmen,” he said.</div>

“All of them had their hands tied behind their backs when brought on a pickup truck and they were also hooded. They were shot indiscriminately with machine guns,” said <b>Muktarey</b>, another witness.</div>

Last week the United States conducted an air strike in <b>Saacow</b>, 320 kilometres (200 miles) west of the capital <b>Mogadishu</b> and in the <b>Middle Juba</b> region, and Somali officials said Shebab intelligence chief <b>Abdishakur Tahlil</b> was killed along with two other militants.</div>
