<b>President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday urged the incoming Buhari administration to continue to boost the railway system as the cheapest and most effective mode of mass transit in the country.</b></div>

The president said this when he inspected the ongoing construction of the National Railway Terminal at Idu and the Abuja light rail transit system.</div>

Jonathan said he was happy with the progress of work done on the projects and called on the state governors to also build light rails in their state capitals.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"We cannot do mass transit using taxis, small cars and small buses even the luxury buses.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"It will be too expensive until our rail system works.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"That is why we are emphasizing on inter-city rail and intra-city light rail systems and of course this government is leaving on May 29 but the incoming government will definitely continue.</div>

"This is a noble project, it will benefit Nigerians, especially residents of the FCT.</div>

Jonathan said the projects were dear to the Federal Government, adding that it was the target of his administration to link up all states of the federation.</div>

He, however, said that the state governments were being encouraged to construct intra-rail systems in the major capitals to ease transportation.</div>

Earlier, the Secretary of Transport in FCT, Mr Jonathan Ivoke, said that the National Rail Line and the Abuja light rail were almost completed and both lines were interlinked.</div>

He said the system was conceived in 2007 while work started in 2009 due to financial difficulties and the securing of the consultancy.</div>

He said that the project was remodeled and segmented to achieve completion.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ivoke said the Lot 1 of the project was valued at ₦823 million which had attained 61 per cent completion of the double standard gauge.</div>

He said that 29km out of the 49.24km length had been completed, adding that the stockpile of the needed materials for the entire job was on ground.</div>

<b>A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday accepted the application for discontinuance of suit filed by 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in Ekiti State, challenging the impeachment of Speaker Adewale Omirin.</b></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Justice Saliu Saidu while striking out the suit marked FHC/L/CS/1823/14, and filed against the Governor, Ayodele Fayose and 13 others for their alleged role in the impeachment of Omirin and his deputy, Adetunji Orisalade, awarded ₦100, 000 cost in favour of the defendants.</div>

The plaintiffs had on April 7, filed an application through their lawyer, Norrison Quakers (SAN), seeking to discontinue their case against Fayose, the seven People's Democratic Party’s (PDP) lawmakers and others, over the "unlawful" removal of Omirin and Orisalade on November 20 last year.</div>

Joined as the defendants along with Fayose,  Dele Olugbemi and Olayinka Abeni were the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police in the state and the Department of State Service.</div>

Others include the three commissioners cleared for appointment by the House under Olugbemi's leadership and the five other PDP lawmakers in the House.</div>

The plaintiffs among other things, sought an order restraining the factional Speaker of the House, Olugbemi, and his deputy, Abeni, from either parading themselves as or executing duties in the capacity of the leaders of the House.</div>

The plaintiffs' move to discontinue the suit was objected by the defendants who argued that the matter should rather be dismissed, since it has filed its statement of defence.</div>

Counsel to the defendants, E.O. Afolayan, representing his principal Femi Adesina (SAN), prayed the court to dismiss the suit because "it is the proper thing to do."</div>

He urged the court to dismiss the case in order to foreclose any future representation of the matter by the plaintiffs.</div>

The accused, Adeogun Ogunyemi was brought before Justice Saliu Saidu, alongside one Adams Micheal a.k.a. Chidi by the NDLEA.</div>

They were alleged to have conspired among themselves to import 2.692 kilograms of the banned substance into the country between January and March.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The court heard that the accused persons committed the offence at the International Mail Processing Centre, NACHO, International Airport, Ikeja.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They were arraigned on a four count charge, bordering on drug trafficking punishable under Sections 14(b) and 11(a) of the NDLEA Act.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges against them, prompting the NDLEA to plead that the duo be remanded in its custody pending the completion of investigation.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
His prayer was objected to by the defense counsel, Chief Benson, who told the court that the duo have been detained since March.</div>

After listening to the parties, Justice Saidu in a bench ruling ordered that the accused persons be remanded in NDLEA custody for seven days and adjourned the matter to May 14.</div>

<b>A pastor, Daniel Akintola, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with 1.9 kilogrammes of drug substance that tested positive for heroin.</b></div>

<b><a href="http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/ndlea-nabs-pastor-for-drug-trafficking/">PUNCH Metro</a></b> learnt that the 43-year-old suspect, who pastors a church in Lagos State, was apprehended at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu State along with one other suspected drug trafficker, Victor Onwuegbusi, from who 51.5kg of ephedrine was recovered.</div>

It was gathered that the pastor had arrived at the airport from Uganda and had tried to abandon the luggage in which he packed the drug when he was arrested.</div>

The agency also said the ephedrine was intercepted from Onwuegbusi, a businessman, while he was disembarking from a flight en route from Mozambique.</div>

In a statement he made to the investigators, Akintola, who hails from Oyo State, said he went to Uganda for a conference. He admitted that he owned the luggage, but feigned ignorance of the drug.</div>

He said, “I am a pastor with the Gospel Faith Mission International, Olayemi Assembly, Ipaja, Lagos. I attended a ministers’ conference in Uganda. This bag containing heroin is my bag, but I am a pastor and not a drug trafficker.”</div>

The pastor was said to be unable to provide proof that he actually attended the conference.</div>

Onwuegbusi, however, said he was hired to take ephedrine to Maputo, Mozambique for a fee of $2,500, adding that he would have used the proceed to establish a business.</div>

“They paid my return ticket and promised that the person that would receive the bag in Maputo would give me $2,500. I would have invested the money in import business.”</div>

<b>A generator repairer, Ayo Abimbola, has stabbed a Lagos estate chief security officer, Tochukwu Ejika, to death with a dagger.</b></div>

The incident happened in God's Own Estate, Ijanikin, Badagry, Lagos State after Ejika confronted the repairer on his mission in the area.</div>

It was learnt that the suspect, who hails from Ikire, Osun State, on the fateful Saturday night, first hit the deceased with a plank in the head, before stabbing him with a dagger in the head and stomach.</div>

Efforts to save the victim proved abortive as he reportedly gave up soon afterwards.</div>

Policemen from the Ijanikin Division were said to have arrested the suspect and took the corpse of the victim to the mortuary.</div>

Abimbola said his family members were in the village.</div>

He said the deceased had first stabbed him in the right arm with the dagger, before he decided to return the attack.</div>

The suspect said he had visited the estate last week Friday to repair a generator and ask his friend to accommodate him.</div>

He said, “I repair generators for people in that estate and I have been doing the job since 2001. I had stayed in four different apartments but I was sent out of my last apartment because my landlord was always trying to interfere in my personal affair. He always complained that I beat my girlfriend.</div>

“My friend, Olokun, on Friday invited me to repair his generator. I went to his house with some clothes because I planned to beg him to let me stay with him for a few days.</div>

“He was not at home, but I met his wife. After repairing the generator, I dropped the bag there and told his wife to explain to him that I would like to live with them for a while.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

“I went back to the area the next day to repair generators for some more people. It was when I finished that I went back to Olokun’s house to know if I could stay with him.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

He said the man's wife paid him ₦500 for his service and told him her husband did not agree to accommodate him in the house.</div>

Abimbola explained that he was not happy with the development but took it in good faith.</div>

He said around 8pm when he approached the estate gate, he was challenged by Ejika, who ordered him to return to where he was coming from.</div>

“I did not know he was the chief security officer and he did not tell me who he was. But when he said I should go back, I decided to approach him and explain what was happening to him. He picked a plank and hit me in the head with it. I dragged the plank from him and stabbed him in the head too.</div>

“He became angry and picked a dagger and stabbed me in the elbow. In annoyance, I seized it from him and struck him in the stomach and he fell down,” he added.</div>

He died afterwards due to the severity of the wound.</div>

It was learnt that some other security officers in the area, who saw the incident, pounced on Abimbola and beat him up.</div>

They were said to have also alerted policemen from the Ijanikin division who arrested the suspect.</div>

A police source said, “The man is not as innocent as he claimed to be. He is one of those terrorising the area.”</div>

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that the matter had been transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Panti.</div>

He said, “It happened on May 3. It was reported by a resident of God’s Own Estate. Investigations are ongoing and the suspect is in our custody.”</div>

The IGP immediately ordered the resolution of all the issues and restoration of her salary, Force spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said in the statement.</div>

The statement said the IG also directed the transfer of the sergeant from Lagos State Police Command to Force Headquarters Abuja and directed the Force Medical Officer to ensure she gets urgent access to needed and required medical attention.</div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Did people from the South-South benefit? If you come to Bayelsa State, can you count how many people benefited? That is the president’s state. When the APC was going for campaigns, they made a statement that there is a town that they didn’t have light, and people said Otuoke. Then (Gov. Chibuike) Amaechi said “I didn’t mention name”. But can you imagine that in that place there is no road? You see, what Jonathan did was that he favoured the North and West. Go to the Niger Delta and see. He favoured the North. He did Almajiri. Then go to the West you will see the railway, you will see all what he’s doing there. What is happening in Niger Delta? Nothing! It is better to go there and see things for yourself. Jonathan did not do anything for his people, for his region.</span></div>

He did the airport in Katsina. He started from his own area. See, that is what Jonathan was supposed to do to. I have that belief right from time because they never wanted a Niger Delta person to be in government. We know that one because they will seal a lot of deals. I am a mariner. I know what is going on at the sea.  For instance, like we are talking about subsidy, we know the people that do deals.</span></div>

Obasanjo started the road and then Yar’Adua inherited it. Also, after the death of Yar’Adua, Jonathan inherited it and it continued from there. Governance is continuous process. As Buhari comes on board he will also inherit it and finish it. That is my belief for sure.</span></div>

I am fully confident and if they terminate it the better for us because we will know that the government doesn’t want peace. So, that’s my own belief. I’m not afraid of anything. We will be ready to work with any person that has the Niger Delta people at heart. If you come with good ideas I think we will also work with you.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Well, we are one Nigeria. Since we have taken amnesty we are bound to take up and follow all the processes. If he (Buhari) wants to work with us we will be there to work with him. I think there is nobody that will come into this country that will not want the assistance of the Niger Delta. This is because that is where the major resource of this country comes from. So, you must need the Niger Delta people except you want division in the country. That is when you don’t have the love for the people of this nation.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">There is one thing you need to know. Let me tell you something – the production this time around compared to some years back is increasing and the amnesty is something that has come to stay. And if the government wants to scrap the amnesty it means the government doesn’t mean well for the nation. That’s my own belief. Let me tell you something – people were also inciting others that the government wants to scrap the amnesty. I have been in the Niger Delta trying to pacify them and telling them that it is a lie and that the government will work with them. They wanted to start destruction. There is no way that you will come out and say you will scrap the amnesty. How many people can you kill? How many? The Niger Delta terrain is very different and our struggle is very sacrosanct. That is one thing you get. So you cannot kill everybody. Look at Boko Haram – their area is a desert and it is easy for vehicles to move.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Really, our struggle is beyond the presidency and it was Yar’Adua that gave us amnesty. When he gave us amnesty there were some things he pronounced and some infrastructural development that he was supposed to put in place like the coastal road and all of a sudden he died. May his soul rest in peace! And when Jonathan came on board and you know just for the fact that he (Jonathan) is from Niger Delta, we just embraced him. But he is not the best. That is one thing that I will assure you. I believe more in Yar’Adua who was even on his sick bed. There was no way sycophants will go to Yar’Adua and say all sorts of rubbish. Yar’Adua will confirm from the end and know the real thing to do, not our brother Jonathan who surrounds himself with sycophants. And there is no way we will destroy his government because tomorrow other people from other ethnic regions will say the Niger Delta people are the ones responsible for the destruction of their own<br />government. So we just let everything like that. Since Buhari has emerged the winner, I think we will be there to work with him if he wants to work with us and put in place all what Yar’Adua was supposed to do. That is my own belief.</span></div>

In Niger Delta we have some kind of security programme we are supposed to indulge our people in to also protect the system especially the oil facility in the region. I think all these things are there and also the infrastructural development that Yar’Adua was supposed to put on. It will be the responsibility of Buhari to carry on what Yar’Adua started. So, there are so many things to be done.</span></div>

Every man has its game to play but the only advice I will give this incoming government is that they should beware of sycophants and don’t listen to people that would create problems for the administration. With what I am seeing, you know people have been saying that during the time of Buhari, during his military era, when he took over from Shagari, the governors that were working with the South-South people were the people he jailed. So, people are saying that now as he is coming on board he wants to make sure that he deals with many of the South-South people in this government to recover so many things.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">I work with everybody. For instance, when the APC came to my place in Bayelsa state, I received them. Even my former governor, Timipreye Silva, slept in my house. I received many of the APC people. I even gave them breakfast and dinner before they left. I also received PDP people. I sponsored my younger brother to contest the House of Assembly election, which was rigged. You know the system of Nigeria where people hijack ballot papers and work without even using the card readers and they went and thumb-printed. I think we are going to the tribunal.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">To me, as a matter of fact Jonathan disappointed us. That is my own opinion. He disappointed us. To me, he disappointed us. He might be good to some people. There is nothing to tell if you get to my own state. We didn’t benefit. People like us did not benefit from his government. His government focused on one side. The Bayelsans did not benefit. It is only the Arugbos – that is Ondo State and Delta State – that benefited from his government. So, someone like me will not welcome him. I will not welcome him at all. The struggle continues.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">They are even more bitter than I am. Jonathan empowered many foot soldiers, the Niger Delta ex-agitators, foot soldiers. But in Bayelsa, he didn’t empower people and that is the state he comes from.</span></div>

<strong><span style="font-family: inherit;"><u>What of the importation of oil?</u></span></strong></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">We know about the importation; we know how they killed the refinery system just for them to be importing products. Government should be subsidizing for them. All those types of bad deals we know. We are not kids; they are just telling people they are increasing fuel price. That is rubbish. We know what is going on. I am a full mariner. We know what is going on. They know what they were doing. When Jonathan stopped all these things, that was when they were mad. Look, these people import 30 per cent of fuel into the country and they know their landing costs. As soon as they get to the country they will queue. Sometimes, they don’t come with the 50, 000 metric tonnes. They will come with 30,000 metric tonnes and sign for the 50,000 metric tonnes. They will look for a tank farm pump into it and take 10,000 aside to the neighbouring country and sell.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">That is what is done. So, the masses don’t know because they are not in the river. We know the deals they are doing. So, when Jonathan came and saw these things and stopped them they were mad. They are ready to throw Jonathan. We know everything going on. So, that’s the deal they’ve been doing. Even Diezani (Petroleum Resources Minister) that you are talking about saw all the rubbish they are doing and she sacked some people and stopped so many things they were doing. That is why they are accusing Diezani. She didn’t do anything. She is from my region. They thought we are fools. Who are the major beneficiaries of the oil blocks? It is the northerners and a few from East and West. The northerners are the major owners of oil blocks. Is it their region? What are you telling us? Are we fools? Were we born to be a second class citizen in this our country?</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Nobody is stealing. Can you steal your property? Who are the people stealing oil? Does the oil belong to them? I don’t believe in the saying that people are stealing oil.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">No matter her stand she is from Niger Delta. Even if she didn’t take care of her people we don’t care but sometimes Niger Delta people unite and I believe Diezani is a trap set for the Nigerian Government. They believe the Buhari Administration would want to deal with her and so she is like a trap, and that is my own belief. I have heard people talk about it and if you are a northerner in that position if he leaves they will not touch him. What about that man Diezani took over from? What is his name again? I think he is dead now. They did a lot of deals, oil blocks and all the rest. People are aware of it and even the northerners. When Yar’Adua was even sick, even dead, they forged his signatures and did all those things, nothing happen. So, Niger Delta people are not fools.</span></div>

<b>The former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, yesterday, told the President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari that the expectations of Nigerians from the incoming government were high, urging him not to fail the people.</b></div>

The expectations, Anyaoku said, were hinged on the campaign promises of the president-elect.</div>

He said: “I had useful discussions with President-elect, congratulated him on his victory and told him he's coming in as president on a very high wave of expectations throughout the country. He advised Nigerians living in South Africa to be law-abiding in their host country.</div>

I think the xenophobic attacks on foreigners in South Africa has been condemned by the South African government.</div>

He said: “I think that 2015 will go down in Nigeria political history as a glorious year. Nigerians have deliberately understood what is multi party democracy. But we thank God for technology, PVC and card reader and the insistence of constituencies to make sure they are used.</div>

“However, in two political zones where they were subverted, the people wanted to vote, but they were not allowed to vote and they continued with what they used to do in their party offices or their sitting rooms, where they would write the results, go to radio house and television house and announce the result and say whoever does not accept the result should go to court.</div>

“How many people can go to court when they are struggling to get the next day’s meal? Where will they get the millions to give to those Senior Advocates of Nigeria. I was able to do it because of the goodwill of Nigeria which again demonstrated itself this year.</div>

“People agreed that I am not a very rich man, but I was lucky that Nigerians believe in me and they put their strength together, voted and made sure that their votes count. I say thanks to the technology. Please continue to support those among you that you feel will go and work for your state and for the country. I assure you that the government of the APC, when eventually put in place, will be a competent Nigerian government.</div>
