<b>ILE-IFE, NIGERIA - As the rites for the transition of Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the 50th Ooni of Ife, enter the final stage, heirs to the Ooni stool have begun moves to succeed the late monarch.</b></div>

Though, the passage of Oba Sijuwade has not been officially announced, princes from three of the four ruling houses of Ile-Ife have started moves to ensure they emerge as the successor to the throne. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The four ruling houses in Ile-Ife are Lafogido, Giesi, Ogbooru and Osinkola.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
While Oba Okunade Sijuwade is from the Ogbooru ruling house, his predecessor, Oba Adesoji Aderemi, was from Giesi ruling house.</div>

However, members of the Aderemi Royal Family of Giesi Dynasty, this weekend began what could be termed political moves to emerge the next Ooni with visit to Mama HID Awolowo, the matriarch of the Awolowo family and the Yeye Oba of Ife. An unmentioned contender for the stool, Barrister Adedamola Aderemi is an inlaw to the Awolowos.</div>

Mama Awolowo's daughter, Chief Mrs Tola Oyeniyi is the mother-in-law to Prince Aderemi.</div>

Apart from their visit to Ikenne, Prince Aderemi also paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode. Observers see the visit to Ambode as a means of getting access to his political god-father, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of APC which is the ruling party in the State of Osun. In fact, the Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is a well-known "disciple" of Tinubu.</div>

<b>LAGOS, NIGERIA - Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Sunday disowned the randy lecturer, Dr. Akin Baruwa, who reportedly <a href="http://nigerianewsroom.blogspot.com/2015/08/read-how-and-why-unilag-lecturer-raped.html">raped an 18-year-old admission seeker</a>.</b></div>

Baruwa allegedly raped the young girl (name withheld), who is seeking admission to the university, in his office on July 23, 2015.</div>

The lecturer, currently in detention at the Kirikiri Prison, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on Thursday.</div>

But speaking with <b><a href="http://www.punchng.com/news/unilag-disowns-lecturer-who-raped-admission-seeker/">The PUNCH</a></b> correspondent on Sunday, the Head, Information Unit of the university, Mr. Olagoke Oke, said Baruwa was not an employee of the institution.</div>

According to him, no such name exists on the university’s employee list whether teaching or non-teaching.</div>

The said Dr. Baruwa is a not a member of staff of the university, whether teaching or non-teaching. He also does not belong to the part-time or full-time teaching staff of the school. His name is not on the master list of workers of the university. I have checked the staff list using his full name and initials and could not come up with any such name as of Friday, August 6, 2015. </div>

I have also checked the list of office accommodation given to members of staff of the university and his name is not there. There is no office allocation attached to such a name. How he reportedly entered the said office where the crime took place is what we are looking into as an institution. </div>

While we sympathise with the alleged victim, we are ready to cooperate with every agency of government to get to the root of the matter as soon as possible. As an institution, we do not support any act of violence, not even against women. Therefore, we will help to ensure that the case comes to a logical conclusion.</div>

Meanwhile, as the authorities disowned the lecturer, some students, in the Faculty of Business Administration, who craved anonymity for fear of victimisation, claimed that the suspect was a part-time lecturer of the accounting department of the university.</div>

One of them said: "I know him as a part-time lecturer in the accounting department. I wonder what the university wants to achieve now by trying to disown him."</div>

<b>LAGOS, NIGERIA - A former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, says former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is too critical of people and sees nothing good in anyone.</b></div>

Osoba said this during an interview with journalists in Lagos on Saturday.</div>

He said this while reacting to Obasanjo's claim that Chief Obafemi Awolowo was never the leader of the Yoruba but was only elected leader by his supporters.</div>

I would not like to judge Chief Obasanjo because as I am trying to put the facts straight, I don't want to join him in condemnation of individuals. He was a gentleman but was also an activist with his philosophy of primary healthcare. </div>

The meeting which was confirmed to newsmen by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, was said to have lasted for not more than 30 minutes.</div>

Before leaving office, Jonathan had cried out that any such probe should go beyond his administration, but Buhari has opted to restrict it to Jonathan's.</div>

<b>ILE-IFE, NIGERIA - Since the remains of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, arrived the palace, last Sunday, various rites of passage and rituals have been performed as part of the complex traditional processes a deity of Ooni's standing must pass through, sources close to the palace said yesterday.</b></div>

<i>The Guardian</i> learnt that the monarch is one of 201 deities in Ife kingdom, and "since deities don't die", the Ooni, in the worldview of traditionalists, is alive until all rites and rituals pertaining to his transition are completed.</div>

Sources said the rites of passage have reached advanced stage, while various traditional chiefs and priests are still busy with activities to enhance his seamless transition.</div>

They noted that the rites of passage for the Ooni are not for public consumption, save initiates and members of various deities. </div>

If an ordinary person tells you that he knows what is going on in respect of the Ooni, who is a deity, tell that person he is a liar. </blockquote>

By tradition, you are not expected to know because you are an <i>'ogberi'</i> (uninitiated) and because of the medium you work for, don’t join others in feeding the public what you don’t know and what is untrue. </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
I also need to inform you that there are different stages and processes in respect of rites and rituals to be performed concerning his transition. </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
You people must wait until words of wisdom come from the palace on the status of the Ooni. We are the custodian of culture and tradition. If we are not in a hurry over what should be done, why must you be in a hurry about an event you know little or nothing about?</blockquote>

Another source said Ooni's body has been taken to <i>Ile Ase</i> (chamber of authority) where it is believed a transited Ooni received all the spiritual powers he used in asserting authority during his lifetime.</div>

The house is said to be unique in the sense that all authorities acquired from gods and godesses must be re-claimed from the 'living' monarch before he is laid to rest. A public pronouncement on the monarch might be made on or before Wednesday.</div>

Yesterday, it was learnt some interested parties were already warming up as contenders to succeed the monarch. The four ruling houses in Ile-Ife are Lafogido, Giesi, Ogboru and Osinkola.</div>

<b>SHIMAWA, NIGERIA - Apparently referring to his spiritual endowment, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has said that he is richer than one of the world’s richest men, Bill Gates.</b></div>

Teaching the worshippers in the mission during the church's 63rd Annual Convention on Saturday shortly before the Holy Communion Service on the topic: <i>Overflowing Cup</i>, Pastor Adeboye said that if Bill Gates needs shoes, he would have to go to the market to buy them, but that if he should announce that he needs shoes at the Redemption Camp, where the convention took place, the auditorium might not contain the shoes people would donate to him.</div>

"I have houses in at least 188 countries of the world, where we have our churches, so I am richer than Bill Gates. Each time I visit these countries, my children would be struggling and saying 'daddy, come and stay with me.'</div>

"If I announce here that tomorrow morning, I need a car to travel to the new auditorium, how many cars do you think would be made available to me by you my children? Those of you that do not have a car of your own, very soon, God will give you your own cars. So, I am appealing to you to become an incurable soul winner before you leave this convention ground and your cup will overflow," he said.</div>

The man of God had earlier used the occasion to warn that any of the mission's provinces with the dirtiest hostels at the camp would not be allowed to attend next year’s convention, and advised that people should tidy up their dormitories.</div>

The Friday, August 7 Convention/Holy Ghost Service, which attracted millions of people from all over the country, and which caused heavy traffic gridlock along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, witnessed salvation, testimonies, prayers, songs and healing, where the lame walked and the sick got healed.</div>

There were also many powerful testimonies during the Friday Holy Ghost service, with a woman testifying of how she was healed of cancer, while another woman, who was barren for 20 years, said God eventually gave her a set of twins through the ministry of Pastor Adeboye.</div>

Another lady, who was possessed by a marine spirit, also gave a testimony of how God delivered her and she vomited two keys, which she showed to the congregation as proof.</div>

Also testifying, Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, said that he dropped out of school in 1979 and became a motor park tout, but that he is now a holder of a doctorate degree and a worker in RCCG.</div>

He said: "Pastor Enoch Adeboye prayed for me concerning my ambition to become governor and it came to pass after many years of my attempt to hold a public office".</div>

In his sermon, Pastor Adeboye assured the congregation that God is sufficient in all ways, adding that God can reverse all the irreversible and solve all their problems if they obey Him.</div>

Welcoming the vice president, Professor Osinbajo to the convention on Saturday, Pastor Adeboye stated that he is not just a pastor in the mission, but that the VP is also one of the mission’s ushers, who minister during special occasions.</div>

"I don't know why he was not allowed to officiate during the convention. I hope he would do so during the congress in December. I want you to send our regards to President Muhammadu Buhari and we want him to join us next time," he added.</div>

Daddy Adeboye, as he is fondly called, used the opportunity to urge the worshippers to always pray for the Nigerian Army so that they could help defeat all the enemies of the country.</div>

It would be recalled that this year's convention is tagged: 'The All Sufficient God' and ended with thanksgiving service on Sunday August 9 at the mission’s new camp ground situated in Shimawa Area, Ogun State.</div>
