Addressing a meeting of the Coalition in Ugheli, Delta State, Akpodoro contended that no section of the country has the power to hold others to ransom.</div>

Dokubo at the commemoration of the late Adaka Boro, in Yenagoa reportedly said he was ready to‎ take on the federal government if the interest of the region was not favourably considered by the incoming All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration.</div>

Akpodoro told Dokubo to stop dragging the region into issues of personal interest stressing that the people of the Delta have decided to embrace peace and not war.</div>

He said the time has come for the likes of Dokubo in the Delta region not only to embrace peace but to also realise that the era of impunity, gangsterism‎ and nepotism was over emphasizing that the ex-militants who supported the APC and his candidate, Buhari before, during and after the elections are not slaves as claimed by Dokubo but that what they did "was a show of unfettered patriotism, solidarity and love to a nation above self-serving and myopic interests".</div>

Rather than continue to be on the opposition to the government, the President of the NCNDE-A urged the leaders of the people in the Delta region to go and preach peace in support of the incoming administration.</div>

He stressed that they stand to gain nothing from crisis but that peaceful approach to issue was an imperative for a better Delta region.</div>

<b>Micheal Oladun, age 52, the leader of the ethnic militia group known as the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Ondo State chapter, has been arrested by police ‎for kidnapping. </b></div>

Mr. Oladun, who claims to be the 'Governor' of the militia group in the State, was apprehended yesterday for allegedly kidnapping his former boss, identified as Tayo Alao. </div>

<i>SaharaReporters</i> correspondent reported that Tayo Alao was the former Governor of the OPC for Ondo State before he was sacked for embezzling funds. </div>

The Police Commissioner in the State, Isaac Eke, who paraded Oladun and two other OPC members - Rafiu Alao and Adesamoye David - in front of journalists in Akure, disclosed ‎that the suspects conspired to kidnap their former leader for ransom. </div>

Eke revealed that the trio tied-up one of their co-conspirators, Rafiu Alao, and forcefully made him to swear to an oath in a river that he would never report the incident to the police. </div>

He added that the suspects were arrested after the police obtained information that some hoodlums have kidnapped their boss.</div>

In a confession, Micheal Oladun told SaharaReporters that his gang didn't actually kidnap their former boss, but that they were trying to threaten him to return their funds. </div>

He detailed how the former OPC governor, Tayo Alao, embezzled funds allocated to him by the group, adding that this led to his immediate removal from the position.</div>

"As a result of the sit-tight syndrome, Mr. Alao decided not to leave the position despite relieving him of it. He still moves about calling himself the Governor of the group in the State. </div>

"About ten thousand people from the group who were mostly from Ilaje and Ese Odo areas of the State gave him the sum of ₦10,000 each for the pipeline security form, to collect on our behalf but he squandered the fee. He didn't even remit the money to the group's account. </div>

"We also gave him ₦1,500 as an Identity Card (ID) fee‎, imagine, this is the same man that has nothing when he came to Ondo State, but now, he is riding in posh vehicles and has two wives. </div>

"We want him and demand for the return of our money which is almost ₦10 million but unfortunately he attacked us with his boys armed with charms, clubs, and we have to fight back. </div>

"He has a lot of fraud in his neck. Alao collected money from pipeline security, identity card fees, oath taking fees, and a Governor's signature fee from all of us but he embezzled all the money", he said. </div>

He, however, revealed how the founder of the OPC handpicked him as the new Governor of the group in Ondo State after Alao was asked to leave the position.</div>

"Fredrick Fasehun [OPC Founder] gave me the Governor of the OPC in Ondo State on the 17th of March 2015, at an event in Lagos after Tayo Alao embezzled our money".</div>

Meanwhile, the police said it has been under intense pressure to free the three-arrested OPC members, but vowed they would all appear in court. </div>

"A lot of pressure has been on me, but I have vowed they would appear in court. The trio will serve as case studies for others who are planning same or has the same intention. Nobody is above the law", he said.</div>

He said there was no election in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area because the poll was held in the council last year.</div>

<b>Lagos lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo, on Monday withdrew as prosecuting counsel from the trial of a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, who is facing six counts of ₦2.45bn fraud before a Federal High Court in Abuja.</b></div>

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had, on May 18, 2015, re-arraigned Sylva for the offences he allegedly committed between October 2009 and February 2010 as governor of Bayelsa State.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, counsel from Keyamo's law firm, Mr. John Ainetor, appeared in court on Monday, informing the presiding judge, Justice Evoh Chukwu, of his principal’s decision to withdraw from further prosecuting the case.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ainetor did not give reasons for Keyamo's decision.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Keyamo's letter to the EFCC, indicating his intention to withdraw from the suit, did not also give any specific reason.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also, the application he filed to that effect did not give any details apart from stating that his decision was informed by "certain recent developments".</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
His letter to the EFCC read: </div>

Kindly recall that sometime in 2012, the Commission briefed my Chambers to prosecute CHARGE NO. FHC/ABJ/CR/23/2012; BETWEEN: THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA V. TIMIPRE SYLVA. Since then, we have diligently prosecuted the Charge and successful opposed the bid of the accused person to quash the Charge in <i>limine</i>. </div>

The court ruled in our favour for the trial to commence and the Court of Appeal also refused to stay proceedings in the trial. </div>
</blockquote>

However, certain recent developments (in respect of which I would prefer not to elaborate) have necessitated my decision to withdraw from further prosecution of the said Charge. This is because these recent developments may hamper my effective,efficient and vigorous prosecution of the Charge, duties that are expected of every prosecutor. </div>

Permit me, therefore, to return the case files to the Commission for re-assignment to another counsel for due prosecution.</div>
</blockquote>

His application was granted and the matter was adjourned till June 1.</div>

The former governor also has similar charges pending against him before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja.</div>

<b>The police in Lagos have arrested an Alhaji, Ramon Adeleke, and his friend, Lukman Soyoye, for allegedly stealing a vehicle and selling it.</b></div>

Our correspondent learnt that 54-year-old Adeleke and Soyoye, 38, were picked up by the CCTV in front of a hotel on Allen Avenue, Ikeja, where the theft reportedly took place.</div>

<i>PUNCH Metro</i> gathered that the duo, after the theft, allegedly sold the car, a Toyota Corolla, in the Ile Epo, Iyana Ipaja area for ₦400,000.</div>

The matter was said to have been reported by the victim to the Area F Command, Ikeja. It was later transferred to the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad.</div>

Our correspondent gathered that with the help of the CCTV footage, which showed the faces of the suspects, Adeleke and Soyoye were arrested on Sunday, April 19, 2015.</div>

It was learnt that the police had recovered the stolen vehicle and the operational vehicle - a jeep - allegedly used by the duo.</div>

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Adeleke, from Ede, Osun State, said he was about to enter the mosque for the evening prayer when the police arrested him.</div>

He said, “I worked as a commercial driver. I was plying Obalende and Oshodi areas. I went to Mecca for pilgrimage about three years ago. I had always been a responsible man until last year. I met Lukman (Soyoye) last year and we became friends.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
“In November last year, we both went to a restaurant on Allen Avenue around 7pm and we drank into the night. Around 2am, we both entered the vehicle I brought, and left. We saw the vehicle parked in front of the hotel, and everywhere was empty. So, I forced the door open and we stole it. I drove the stolen car, while Lukman drove the car we brought.</div>

“I had even sold the car and forgotten about it. Then, in April, I went to a mosque in the Ikeja area to pray and suddenly as I alighted from my car, policemen rounded me up. I was told that it was the camera in the hotel that picked my face.”</div>

Soyoye, an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, said Adeleke had lied to him that they were going to Allen Avenue to meet someone who owed him (Adeleke) some money and refused to pay back.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Soyoye, married with six children, said he was given ₦80,000 after the car was sold.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said: "I am an Aluminum fabricator, and I stayed in the Ifelodun, Dopemu area of Lagos. I met Alhaji (Adeleke) sometime last year. I used to change the glass of his bus, and that was how we met. He called me on the phone that day and said one of his friends owed him and he was going to forcefully collect his money.</div>

"We drank till that dawn. It was when he forcefully opened the vehicle that I realised that we came to steal a car. I was the one who drove the car we brought.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

"I was given ₦80,000 after the car was sold. I did not know how he sold it. He brought it to the Dopemu underbridge. I used the money to pay my children’s school fees. It was a week after Alhaji was arrested that I was caught".</div>

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the arrest of the suspects, adding that investigations were ongoing.</div>

<b>Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu, who is alleged to have bolted from the United States (US) over drug trafficking charges, has failed to show up at the Federal High Court, Lagos, citing lack of arrest warrant.</b></div>

According to Mitchell Ofoyeju, Head, Public Affairs Division of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kashamu has failed to submit himself to the laws of a country he intends to represent at the senate.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu has failed to appear in court from his house, where he is being closely monitored by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),” Ofoyeju said in a statement issued on Monday.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The agency is working hard to ensure that he submits himself to the due process of the law. His house remains cordoned by anti-narcotic officers pending his appearance in court.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

“The extradition move by the NDLEA for Kashamu to answer drug-trafficking charges is legal. The Agency has not violated his rights and will continue to work within the confines of the law. He has been assured that due process of the law shall be adhered to at every stage.”</div>

The enforcement agency insisted that it would pursue the extradition of the 56-year-old businessman to a logical conclusion.</div>

<b>Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, yesterday, lifted the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on Ado-Ekiti on May 22, following a civil disturbance. </b></div>

The governor stated this in his broadcast to the people of the state in Ado-Ekiti. He said the state government had also placed ₦2 million reward for anybody that could provide information that will facilitate the arrest of those that kidnapped 11 people in different parts of the state recently.</div>

He described the crisis between the Hausa community and commercial drivers in Ado-Ekiti that led to the imposition of the curfew as unfortunate. He urged residents to be law-abiding and conduct their activities in manner that would not cause further break down of law and order.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fayose said the state government lifted the curfew after security agents restored peace in the state. He expressed regret for the inconveniences the curfew might have caused the residents of the town. He said that kidnapping was strange to the state, warning that the state government would fight it.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Meantime, the immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, yesterday, paid a visit to the state where he commiserated with the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, over the violent clash between members of commercial drivers and some traders of northern extraction in Ado Ekiti.</div>

Fayemi, who was accompanied by some members of his cabinet and received by the monarch and chiefs, said he was at the palace to identify with the monarch and his people over the unfortunate incident. </div>

The former governor equally paid similar visit to the Hausa community at Shasha, where they were relocated to by the Fayose government and the market where the inferno took place, promising that the incoming federal administration will assist affected traders.</div>

He condemned in strong terms the spate of kidnappings of professionals and other innocent people in the state. Fayemi lamented that all these had created negative image for the state, stressing that it was having its toll on the economic activities in the state. </div>

In his remarks, Oba Adejugbe thanked Fayemi for the visit urging him not to relent in his efforts to ensure that peace reigns in the state.</div>

“If diesel supplies are not received within the next 24 hours, the network will be seriously degraded and customers will feel the impact,” it added on its Twitter account, @MTNNG, weekend.</div>

<b>One of Nigeria’s biggest banks on Monday announced it was shutting branches early due to a lack of fuel, in the latest sign of shortages hitting businesses.</b></div>

<b>The two candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who will contest the Senate President position during the inauguration of the 8th Senate, Senators Bukola Saraki (Kwara Central ) and Ahmad Lawan (Yobe North), have shifted their campaigns to the Peoples Democratic Party's  (PDP) senators-elect.</b></div>

Saraki and Lawan were initially preparing for the primary election earlier planned for them by the APC leadership at a retreat on Saturday before the arrangement was frustrated following the emergence of two groups which queued behind each of the aspirants.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The other two aspirants, Senators George Akume (Benue North-West) and Ali Ndume (Borno South) have jettisoned their ambitions, thus queuing behind Lawan and Saraki respectively.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Investigations by our correspondent revealed that while a chieftain of the APC and 24 senators-elect mainly from the North-West and the South-West had endorsed Lawan, no fewer than 35 senators-elect had adopted Saraki and communicated their intention to the party's leadership.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was gathered that the pro-Saraki group, under the aegis of <b>The Like-Minds Senators</b>, apart from reaching out to the PDP senators-elect, had also started canvassing supports from prominent leaders of the APC.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
For instance, about 18 members of the group, on Sunday, visited a former Vice-President, Abubakar Atiku, in his Asokoro, Abuja, residence to seek his blessing for their candidate, Saraki.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Atiku, on the occasion, urged the party to respect internal democracy and legislative independence in order to guarantee peace between the executive and the legislature in the in-coming administration.</div>

At the meeting, the former VP said: “I am aware that the APC had zoned the senate presidency to the North-Central but if the position of the party would change, then the National Working Committee of our party would meet to cancel the position.</div>

“I have always been a democrat and I believe in internal democracy. If your group claims that you have 35 APC senators and that nine out of the 12 senators from the North-East are with you, then I think the party needs to respect your agitation.”</div>

Atiku therefore urged members of the pro-Saraki senators to conduct their activities well and do nothing that would jeopardise the collective interest of the party.</div>

It was learnt that the NWC of the APC might likely hold an emergency meeting within the week to take a position on the issue of the National Assembly leadership, since an attempt to produce a consensus candidate for the post of the senate president had failed.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The fear of some leaders of the APC, according to some members of the party, was that the 49 senators-elect on the platform of the PDP might take advantage of their number and the division within the APC to also present a candidate for the post.</div>

But further investigations on Sunday revealed that the two gladiators in the race, Saraki and Lawan, had started serious moves to secure the support of the PDP senators-elect, especially the out-going Senate President, David Mark. They assured them that they would play significant roles in the administration of the red chamber.</div>

It was learnt that members of the pro-Saraki group were assuring their colleagues in the opposition that their candidate would guarantee legislative independence because there would be no godfather in the APC to influence his actions.</div>

The Lawan camp, on the other side, asked the PDP caucus to reject Saraki because he, alongside others, allegedly contributed to the fall of the party by defecting to the APC.</div>

Accordingly, they said they should pay him back by supporting the emergence of Lawan as senate president.</div>

The senators said they decided to build consensus around the candidature of Lawan/Akume to make things easy for the party and putting the interest of Nigeria first.</div>

Dead Man Rises On Way To The Mortuary

<b>A man who was pronounced dead after collapsing at his flat began to move as he was transported to the mortuary.</b></div>

The girlfriend of Thomas Sancomb, 46, had not been able to reach him for two days, and called police asking for an officer to check on him.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
One went to his home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US, and entered his flat to find him collapsed at the end of his bed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Paramedics from the Milwaukee Fire Department said Mr Sancomb was ‘cold to the touch and in rigor’ and did not attempt to resuscitate him.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mr Sancomb was pronounced dead at 2.10pm at the flat.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nearly an hour later Mr Sancomb was being taken to the mortuary when he had spontaneous respirations and began moving his left arm and right leg.</div>

His pulse returned and he was rushed to Columbia St Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee.</div>

<b>The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has advised the Senator-elect for Ogun-East senatorial district, Mr. Buruji Kashamu, to concentrate his effort on defending himself before the Federal High Court where he is expected to appear on Monday (today).</b></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The agency reiterated that the decision to drag him before the court followed a formal request for his extradition by the United States.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
In a statement by its Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Ofoyeju Mitchell, on Sunday, the NDLEA urged Kashamu to save his energy for the hearing of the extradition application.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Kashamu is the Chairman, Organisastion and Mobilisation Committee of the PDP in the South-West and he was a staunch supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan's re-election bid.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He fell out with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and teamed up with President Goodluck Jonathan during the battle for the control of the party in Ogun State.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

The agency said it was wrong of Kashamu to finger Obasanjo and a leader of the PDP in Lagos State, Chief Bode George, as being behind his present travails.</div>

According to the NDLEA, Kashamu had been on the wanted list of both the US Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the Department of Homeland Security.</div>

The statement read in part: “According to an official report, Kashamu has been on the wanted list of both the US Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the Department of Homeland Security.</div>

“Kashamu was indicted in the Northern District of Illinois, United States, on charges brought against him by ICE.</div>

“According to the United States court documents, Kashamu in his days as the leader of a prolific heroin-trafficking ring based in Chicago, Illinois, was known as 'god', 'Daddy', and 'Kasmal'. He is wanted to stand trial for charges of conspiracy and importation of controlled substances, namely heroin, into the United States dating back to 1994.</div>

“Kashamu, who holds dual Nigerian/Beninoise citizenship, has taken multiple pre-emptive actions to thwart US extradition efforts such as claiming that he was being mistaken for his deceased brother whom he claimed committed the alleged offences in the US.”</div>

The statement also said that Kashamu had filed injunctions at courts in the Northern District of Illinois, United States, and in Nigeria to prevent his arrest and prosecution.</div>

The NDLEA said: “These are issues that Kashamu should prepare to address rather than point accusing fingers at eminent elder statesmen who have no connection with the ongoing investigative process. The senator who was placed on house arrest at the weekend is expected to appear in court in less than 24 hours.</div>
