<br />
Good afternoon gentlemen and thank you, once again, for honouring our invitation, despite the short notice.<br />
<br />
With the elections just two days away, we are very concerned by the increasingly-desperate plan by the ruling PDP to rig the elections at all costs, as well as the growing cases of harassment and intimidation of our members across the country by PDP officials and candidates, using the security agencies, which are supposed to be non-partisan and professional.<br />
<br />
<b>RIGGING PLANS</b><br />
Out of the desperation to win the elections at all costs, the PDP has perfected a number of strategies to rig the elections, especially in the North and in the South-west.<br />
<br />
In one last desperate move, one Alhaji Sani Musa, the owner of ACT Technologies, the company that supplied the PVCs and the Card Readers, has been arrested and detained by DSS officials since Tuesday. Perhaps, the agents of the ruling party believe he may have the codes for the Card Readers, which is preposterous. Alhaji Musa has also been accused of colluding with the APC to rig the elections, which is totally false because we at the APC do not subscribe to rigging under any guise.<br />
<br />
Another strategy is to deploy bandits in uniform to polling units to disperse voters by force, after voter accreditation must have been completed using the Card Reader. While that is going on, armed police and soldiers will then come in, ostensibly to chase away the bandits and evacuate INEC officials and voting materials. After evacuating them to ‘safety’, they will then coerce the electoral officials to allow them, security agents that is, to cast all the ballots in the particular unit.<br />
<br />
This strategy, to be used mostly in the PDP controlled states in the North and the South-East, will be repeated in many polling units in many states, because for each state and polling units, there is a calculated percentage which the PDP must win!<br />
<br />
Yet another strategy, this time for APC controlled states, involves the use of carrot and stick against APC agents. The carrot involves seeking to buy the agents over with mouth-watering sums of money. If this fails, security agents and PDP thugs will simply disrupt the voting and destroy election materials.<br />
<br />
Recall, gentlemen, that we have earlier raised the alarm about police and military uniforms being sewn in some South-west states, for the use of trained PDP thugs. The strategy we have outlined is the reason they have engaged in the uniform sewing venture.<br />
<br />
There is also a worrisome development in the Federal Capital Territory. In at least three locations around the FCT, Jere along airport road, Karu towards Nasarawa and Kubwa road, security agents have mounted road blocks and are stopping North-bound travellers supposedly for a routine search. But the real reason is to collect PVCs from passengers who have theirs on them. Those who refuse to surrender theirs are being molested. This runs against the pledge by the government to ensure free, fair, credible and violence-free elections.<br />
<br />
Finally, while at least three courts have ruled against the deployment of troops for election purposes, we have it on good authority that these rulings will be circumvented by deploying the troops but clothing them in DSS outfits. They will be deployed mostly to the South-west, with strict instructions to capture all states in the region, except Osun State.<br />
<br />
We are therefore calling for vigilance by our members and supporters in the region to expose all those who will sabotage the elections.<br />
<br />
<b>Plan to Engage in Bombing Spree In Opposition Strongholds</b><br />
Plans are afoot to carry out a bombing spree in the major towns and cities in APC-controlled states of Rivers, Lagos, Kano, Imo and Edo, with a view to scaring away voters from the polling units. Ekiti and Ondo have also been earmarked for Card Reader disruption. We are therefore using this medium to alert the general public and the international community to these evil machinations.<br />
<br />
<b>Harassment and Intimidation of Our Members Nationwide</b><br />
Gentlemen, as we speak, our members and supporters across the country are being harassed and intimidated across the country, using the security agencies, especially the police.<br />
<br />
<u>Sokoto State</u><br />
Our members and supporters in Sokoto State are under siege from the PDP, using security agencies.<br />
<br />
Former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Barafawa has openly threatened to take the state by force.<br />
<br />
Here is what he said, as quoted by today’s <b>Daily Trust</b>: “They said we are planning to rig the elections in the state; I don’t know why they are afraid of rigging when they know too well that they are products of the same mechanism. Let me tell them that we will use force, rigging and our ballot papers to send them away.”<br />
<br />
With this open threat about rigging and the use of force, is anyone still in doubt about the plan by the PDP to disrupt the elections in Sokoto State? We asked all election monitors and observers to take note of Barafawa’s open threat.<br />
<br />
<u>Ondo State</u><br />
The police and PDP thugs in Ondo State, acting under instructions from Gov Olusegun Mimiko, have laid a siege on the opposition in the state.<br />
<br />
On Tuesday, Hon. Eniolorunda Omosule, a serving member of the House of Representatives, representing Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, was arrested and detained by the police for no reason other than to keep him away until after elections.<br />
<br />
APC members who were staging a peaceful walk at Ukparamu Ward 1, Bolowo community of Ese-Odo Local Government Area, were attacked with machetes and brutalised by PDP thugs, sponsored by the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, with full police and army protection.<br />
<br />
We are calling on the security chiefs to stop these harassment and intimidation and to call their men to order, before things degenerate into a free-for-all.<br />
<br />
<u>Imo State</u><br />
In Imo State, an aide of Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, who is contesting the governorship election on the platform of the PDP, sent more than 30 armed mobile policemen to invade the homes of some APC youth members in his ward at Mbutu in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area. The policemen fired indiscriminately, smashed doors and windows and arrested some of the youths, who were detained at the Uvuru Police Station and later moved to the police headquarters in Owerri.<br />
<br />
<b>URGENT:</b> And we have also just been told that all Commissioners of Police in the South-west were yesterday invited to a secret meeting in Ibadan, where they received a Presidential bribe delivered in bullion vans as incentives for them to scuttle the elections in the region by acts of intimidation, unlawful arrests, and turning a blind eye to all irregularities and illegality that the PDP may perpetrate during Saturday’s elections. The Minister of Police Affairs, Abduljelili Adesiyan, one of the star actors in Ekitigate, also attended the meeting<br />
<br />
<b>BREAKING NEWS:</b> We have this breaking news that all serving military personnel and their wives, as well as everyone residing in the barracks across the country, who are eligible to vote, will NOT be allowed to exercise their franchise on Saturday. We do not know the reason behind this, but it runs against the grain of international best practices in elections. For elections anywhere to be credible, they must be free, fair and peaceful,.and all Nigerians who are eligible to vote must be able to do so, without fear or intimidation.<br />
<br />
<b>CONCLUSION</b><br />
Gentlemen, all that we have enumerated above are just a few instances of what is happening across the country, with less 48 hours to Saturday’s elections.<br />
<br />
These things are happening despite the assurances by the Jonathan Administration, given even as late as yesterday, to ensure a free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections. They are also happening despite the pledge by the Inspector-General of Police and the Service Chiefs to provide security for the elections.<br />
<br />
We are seriously concerned because it seems the PDP-led Jonathan government has decided to anchor their rigging plans on the use of security agencies, which are institutions of state that should not only be fair and neutral, but protect all Nigerians, irrespective of their party affiliations.<br />
<br />
The reason this is happening is because no one has yet been held to account for Ekitigate, where security personnel, including policemen, soldiers, DSS and Civil Defence agents – all of whom we have their names, service numbers and telephone numbers – were wantonly used to rig the June 21st governorship elections.<br />
<br />
We sincerely hope that, in spite of their oath of office, the security chiefs have not jettisoned every appearance of impartiality ahead of Saturday’s election.<br />
<br />
We hope that as Commanders of Men and Material, they would bear FAITHFUL ALLEGIANCE to the OATH they took as Officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We also believe that they will ensure the same for all those under their Command.<br />
<br />
Again, we call on all Nigerians in general and our members and supporters in particular to be extra vigilant before, during and after the elections, while eschewing violence and refusing to be provoked at all times.<br />
<br />
We also called on all election observers and monitors, both local and foreign, to take a special interest in the role of the security agencies during the elections, in view of the various instances we have cited above.<br />

<b><br /></b>High Chief Raymond Dokpesi by all standards is a very popular man. With no fewer than seven wives and many girlfriends, he is also the darling of many ladies. His media company, DAAR Communications, is also a household name. With its Raypower and AIT, radio and television stations, DAAR has revolutionised the broadcast media industry with quality content and programming.<br />
<br />
But just as the saying goes ‘that behind every successful business, there is a tale’ Dokpesi’s case is not an exception. The tales of this <i>Ezomo</i> of Weppa Wanno Kingdom are however not all about hard work and perseverance but also of fraud and deceit. Dokpesi’s numerous fraudulent schemes reached the summit in 2009 when Nigeria hosted the Under 17 Junior World Cup. Daar Communications was granted the broadcast right for the tournament by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA). But in an intriguing plot, Dokpesi approached then President Umaru Yar’Adua demanding payment for broadcasting the football tournament. In an invoice sent to the central government entitled, DAAR-FIFA HOST BROADCASTER BUDGET, Dokpesi demanded ₦5 billion to defray the company’s cost.<br />

<b>APC’s national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said he has packed his bags and is ready for arrest if need be. Tinubu whose birthday falls on Sunday March 29th was speaking at the 7th edition of the Bola Tinubu Colloquium  in Lagos on Wednesday.</b><br />
<br />
He said:<br />
"(There are) all kinds of threats and reports that they are ready to arrest APC leaders; they are busy making sinister plans instead of leading the nation; this nation is not for sale, it is for change; positive change that we can believe.<br />
<br />
"For me, personally, I have packed a small bag. They may arrest me and others, but they cannot arrest an idea whose time has come. The time for a common-sense revolution has come. So, Nigeria, in calling for a common-sense revolution, I do not advocate violence; I abhor it.<br />
<br />
"What we seek is a revolution to use our votes to throw out ineffective leaders and we shall do it. It is a demand for a true electoral democracy and the responsive leadership associated with it. The revolution is not a violent one to tear things down. It is a positive one with our fingers to repair and restructure a nation when we vote."</div>

<b>Amasiekumor festival is a fiesta that the Ijaw of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State  and their kinsmen from other parts of the Niger Delta region hold fire for at Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of the kingdom, annually. Amasiekumor is a female deity whose origin dates back to over 400 years. Its devoted worshipers believe that the goddess protects and blesses the faithful, irrespective of circumstances and even in times of battle.</b><br />
<br />
In fact, some of them, perhaps blasphemously, describe the deity as Jesus Christ. Ex-militant leader and top-ranking figure in the kingdom, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, said, "Amasiekumor is just like Jesus Christ to us.” This year’s celebration of the deity was not different.<br />
<br />
It was a five-day event that kicked off March 10 and ended March 15 with cleansing and purification exercise for all sons and daughters, who were involved in blood covenant and other related sins.<br />
<br />
The goddess, who is housed at a bravura temple in a small forest adjacent the Oporoza Guest House of Tompolo is reverently treated. Soldiers of the Joint Task Force on Niger-Delta were amazed at the people’s uncommon belief in the goddess when they bombarded the community in 2009 and did everything to destroy the shrine.<br />
<br />
<b>Arrival/commencement</b><br />
It started with making of various sacrifices ranging from sin to purification offerings, as Amasiekumor forbids uncleanliness. Everywhere on the Oporoza canal, last Thursday, was littered with assorted foods and live chickens for the deity. Every participant or visitor was subjected to a compulsory sanctification ritual; a mixture in a native pot is compulsorily splashed on your head, as you dismounted the speedboat with the aid of leaves.<br />
<br />
It is said that any man or woman who had sexual intercourse (probably on the day of the festival) will not be allowed entry into the arena and there is no ransom to redeem it.<br />
<br />
Not even journalists, irrespective of their religious belief, were spared of the purification exercise. The zealots said it was to avoid polluting the ceremony. Last Thursday was the grand finale and merrily dressed men and women from all walks of life trooped to the arena. Aged women were dressed in branded white T-shirts with white head gears, while some youths in similar fashion, also had white pieces of cloth tied round their head.<br />
<br />
<b>Tompolo’s patented appearance</b><br />
Tompolo, who is rarely seen, could not hide on that day. Decked in a branded Amasiekumor T-shirt atop a branded PDP wrapper with a white cloth piece tied around his neck and head, he was the cynosure of all eyes. A special song was rendered in his honour and visitors, who barely saw him, had the opportunity of snapping him with their phones and cameras, as he walked to and fro from the adrenaline-charged rhythms of the drummers. Women, led by Chief Vero Tangbowei swayed their bodies and wriggled their waists in a fashionable manner likened to Owigiri dance steps in a high spirit.<br />
<br />
<b>Enter the deity</b><br />
Ear-plitting canon shots burst out, following an announcement that the arena be cleared for the materialization of Amasiekumor. A broom-wielding black masquerade, led Amasiekumor and its chief priest flanked by Tompolo and other high ranking officials of Amasiekumor into the arena. The black masquerade swept the ground as it swaggered with the parrot feather capped deity in a special cavalcade. Shouts of joy rent the air as people struggled to behold Amasiekumor.<br />
<br />
Distinct songs in its praise were sung until it sublimely took its seat in front of a covered white tent with the chief priest. The black masquerade swept round the arena followed with great dancing by aged women in a single file with youths in the middle of the circle dancing.<br />
<br />
<b>Mint Naira notes for the goddess</b><br />
Food and drinks were in surplus supply, scores of goat skulls obviously offered for sacrifices plagued the place. Meanwhile, twirling continued as Tompolo and other wealthy Ijaw sons and daughters threw mint Naira notes in the air in front of the deity. This year’s festival culminated in the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan and special prayers for the success of the March 28 and April 11 elections.<br />
<br />
<b>For Jonathan</b><br />
Clutching a photograph of President Goodluck Jonathan, the female spiritual head of Gbaramatu kingdom, Mama Ebolomorbo-Ere, joined by all white dressed aged women, stood in front of the Ijaw deity to pray for his victory. The chief priest thereafter sanctified the prayers with a native chalk. It was declared shortly after that Jonathan’s electoral victory was secured and rumbles of celebration and dances followed, as Amasiekumor, the chief priest, Tompolo and others entered into the white tent for a special session. Canon shots were later released and the departure of Amasiekumor was announced.<br />
<br />
<b>Tompolo speaks</b><br />
Speaking shortly, Tompolo said, “Amasiekumor is celebrated to protect the unity and integrity of the Ijaw nation. Amasiekumor means, no matter what happens a mother will protect her child, we want Jonathan to return again and by the grace of God, he is victorious already.” Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Mr. Ziakede Akpobolokemi, said, “Amasiekumor is one of the greatest festivals we have, it shows who we are and how united we are. Everyone requires prayers, which is why we have come to pray for the president, he needs all over prayers and support.”<br />
<br />
<b>Beginning of good things - Pudie</b><br />
Public Relations Officer, PRO, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Matthew Pudie, asserted, “It started very long time ago, it means there will be no more evil, calamity, defeat and failure and it marks the beginning of good things, blessings and promotion.<br />
<br />
“It is cleansing the land for prosperity to come; it is done for the good we are expecting in the coming election. The celebration will climax with the declaration of everybody for Jonathan’s re-election,” he declared.<br />
<br />
<b>Amasiekumor protected us during the struggle - Bounanawei</b><br />
Ex-militant leader, “General” Godday Smith, aka Bounanawei (Owner of the forest) of Niger Delta said: “Amasiekumor is very important and unique to us, we succeeded in the struggle because of the special protection we enjoyed. It is a deity of prosperity; our struggle was for prosperity of our land.<br />
<br />
“We are here today to renew and revive our spiritual standings, the land has been cleansed and victory and prosperity are here. It has nothing to do with religion; it is the way of our life.”<br />

<b>The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Ali Olanusi has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).</b><br />
<br />
Alhaji Olanusi reportedly made the move from the ruling party to the opposition party, today, March 26.<br />
<br />
Olanusi became the Deputy Governor of the State in 2009 as a member of the Labour Party (LP) along with Governor Olusegun Mimiko.<br />
<br />
They defected from the LP to the PDP together in October, 2014.<br />
<br />
This comes just a few days after the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Tele Ikuru defected from the APC to the PDP.</div>

<b>One of the two pilots of the Germanwings plane that crashed in the French Alps was locked out of the cockpit, according to reports.</b><br />

Early findings from the cockpit voice recorder suggest the pilot made desperate efforts to get back in, sources close to the investigation say.<br />
<br />
A German state prosecutor confirmed the reports, Reuters reported, but he did not know which pilot was locked out.<br />
<br />
The Airbus 320 from Barcelona to Duesseldorf crashed on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
Relatives of the 150 passengers and crew who died are due to visit the area on Thursday.<br />
<br />
Lufthansa, which owns Germanwings, arranged two special flights for families and friends on Thursday - one from Barcelona and one from Duesseldorf - to Marseille, and both groups will travel on by road. Separately, some relatives who did not want to fly are travelling by bus from Barcelona.<br />
<br />
Germanwings chief Thomas Winkelmann said 72 passengers on flight 4U 9525 were German citizens, including 16 pupils returning from an exchange trip. Spain's government said 51 of the dead were Spanish.<br />
<br />
Other victims were from Australia, Argentina, Britain, Iran, Venezuela, the US, the Netherlands, Colombia, Mexico, Japan, Denmark and Israel.<br />
<br />
On Wednesday, French officials said usable data had been extracted from the cockpit voice recorder but that it was too early to draw any conclusions.<br />
<br />
Remi Jouty, director of the French aviation investigative agency, said he hoped investigators would have the "first rough ideas in a matter of days" but the full analysis could take weeks or even months.<br />
<br />
However, the <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/26/world/europe/germanwings-airbus-crash.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=photo-spot-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0">New York Times</a> quoted an unnamed investigator as saying that one of the pilots - it is not clear if it is the captain or the first officer - left the cockpit and had been unable to get back in.<br />
<br />
"The guy outside is knocking lightly on the door, and there is no answer," the investigator said, describing audio from the recorder.<br />
<br />
"And then he hits the door stronger, and no answer. There is never an answer. You can hear he is trying to smash the door down."<br />
<br />
A source close to the investigation gave a similar account to the AFP news agency.<br />
<br />
An alarm indicating proximity to the ground can be heard before the moment of impact, the source adds.<br />
<br />
Lufthansa has not named the pilots but it said the co-pilot joined Germanwings in September 2013, directly after training, and had flown 630 hours.<br />

<b>Time For Nigeria To Be Great Once Again</b><br />

Dear Compatriots,<br />
<br />
I want to take this last opportunity, before we go to the polls on Saturday March 28 and April 11 respectively, to thank everyone who has supported our campaigns. I am humbled and grateful to have had the opportunity to meet so many of my fellow Nigerians who have helped to carry the message of change across our great country.<br />
<br />
This is the fourth time that I would be standing for election as the President of Nigeria. All these years, I have been driven by a keen awareness of the potential greatness of our country and the desire to provide the true leadership that will unleash this huge potential. I believe that a stable and prosperous Nigeria is not only important to Nigerians. It is also important to Africa and the rest of the world. The evidence of this is the unprecedented attention that our country will receive this weekend. On Saturday, the whole world would wait with baited breath for the greatest black nation on earth to take charge of its destiny. We must therefore not miss the significance of this moment. We must not let ourselves and our country down.<br />
<br />
At no other time in our history is Nigeria in such an urgent need of strong and competent leadership. Sadly, at no other time is this leadership so sorely absent in our country. We live in a time of great opportunities and great peril. It is only a leader that understands these in equal measure that can find the rightful place for Nigeria among the great Nations of the world.<br />
<br />
I have travelled extensively around Nigeria in the last three months. In the course of my travels, I encountered directly, what I have always believed: that a Hausa man’s desire for security is not different from the Ijaw woman’s desire to feel secured in any part of our country. An Igbo woman’s desire for her children to get quality education and find employment is not different from the Yoruba man’s dream for his children to become useful members of our society. A wife’s desperate need for affordable and quality healthcare for her husband diagnosed with prostate cancer in Enugu is not different from a husband’s desire to save the life of his wife diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Lagos. Invariably, our fears are the same; our dreams are the same; and our problems are the same. Regardless of the language we speak, or the way we understand and worship God, what affects anyone of us, affects everyone of us.<br />
<br />
Our economy is celebrated as the largest in Africa, yet our country is home to the continent’s highest number of people living in extreme poverty. Our youth population is larger than the combined population of many of our neighbours, yet our failure to plan and create opportunities for them is turning them to a social time bomb rather than economic catalysts. A band of ragtag terrorists has threatened our territorial integrity, killed thousands of Nigerians, displaced our people and abducted our children. The almost 60,000 Nigerians who have become refugees in neighbouring countries represent a budding threat to sub-regional stability.<br />
<br />
However, even in the face of these daunting challenges, I see a great opportunity for change. We have to start by rebuilding the trust and confidence of Nigerians in their government. No citizen will respect a government under whose watch more than 200 girls were abducted. This singular act can only portray the government as insensitive, incompetent or both. When I become president, reuniting these children with their families will, without doubts, be a top priority. Rebuilding the army and other security agencies will also be a top priority of my government. I will ensure that never again will terrorists find a safe haven in Nigeria.<br />
<br />
The recent fall in the international price of crude oil leaves us badly exposed and vulnerable. Dwindling oil revenue also means that we are going to face serious financial challenges in the months ahead. However, even as daunting as this appears, it also provides us with great opportunity to diversify our economy and finally give meaning to the widely held belief that our prosperity as a nation would not continue to depend on the resources buried under our feet, but on the productive capacity of our people.<br />
<br />
No matter how much resources we have, if not properly utilised, it would only create a few billionaires and leave the majority of our people in poverty. Under the current administration, corruption has enjoyed unprecedented prosperity and this has been at the heart of most of our government failings, including insecurity, broken infrastructure and growing inequality in our country.<br />
<br />
My government will have zero tolerance for corruption. I will set a personal example and run a government that truly serves the people rather than a privileged few. Like I have repeatedly maintained that if Nigeria does not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria. We must not allow Nigeria to die. Therefore, we must do all that is necessary to root out this evil that has reduced our great country to a laughing stock of the world. We must begin to rebuild the social fabrics of our society and teach a different experience to our youth in the values of hard work, discipline, integrity and service.<br />
<br />
The change that I seek therefore is a change from the current regime of mindless corruption and profligacy; a change from fear and insecurity to peace and stability; a change from religious and ethnic divisiveness to unity, equity and justice. This is the change that my party stands for. This is the change that I am committed to bringing about as President. Give me the chance to lead you in rebuilding a Nigeria that all of us can be proud of once again.<br />
<br />
As we come out to vote on Saturday, I appeal to all Nigerians to shun violence in whatever form. It is the right of every adult Nigerian to vote and expect that their votes would count in a free, fair and credible election. However, we also have a responsibility to respect the choice of others and grant them the same treatment that we expect.<br />
<br />
I also want to call on all our men and women in uniform, the Judiciary, and all others who have constitutional responsibility to safeguard our democracy, to remember that their responsibility is primarily to Nigerians and the survival of Nigeria. They must therefore not allow anyone to use them to subvert the will of the Nigerian people. I believe that their dreams and aspirations are not different from those of other Nigerians.<br />
<br />
I have no doubt that with God being on our side; together we can make our country great once again.<br />
<br />

<b>The Peoples Democratic Party presidential campaign office has stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission deliberately awarded contract for the production of the card reader machine to be used for the upcoming national election to a “fanatical” supporter of Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.</b><br />
<br />
The allegation was made by the spokesperson of the campaign, Femi Fani-Kayode, at a press conference Wednesday in Abuja.<br />
<br />
"A major shareholder and board member of the company that supplied the card reader system and machines to INEC is not only a friend of but also an ardent and keen supporter of General Muhammadu Buhari and the APC.<br />
<br />
"That man’s name is Sani Musa and he is indeed the main force behind the company. The company’s name is Act Technologies Ltd. and the Chairman of the company is one Engineer SK Danladi, Fani-Kayode said.<br />
<br />
He said INEC must explain how and why it gave the contract to supply the card readers to a "fanatical APC supporter and to a man whose other company was officially blacklisted by INEC a couple of years ago for sharp practices".<br />
<br />
The campaign spokesperson said Mr. Musa has expressed his undying support for the APC and Mr. Buhari and his "hatred and virulent" opposition to the PDP and President Jonathan openly and publicly on his Facebook wall. <br />
<br />
Mr. Fani-Kayode read a text of what he claims to be a posting by Mr. Musa on his personal Facebook page.<br />
<br />
"I stand with him (Buhari) for whatever reason" and "Imagine the kind of people given spaces in our nation’s news tabloids. Hoodlums are having field day in Nigeria since the inception of GEJ’s administration. Mad men, hooligans and vultures have taken over decency of the society. May Allah save us from the torments of this (sic) rascals and expose their intentions on our nation state be it the Boko Haram, killer militants or by extension those in authority with wicked intentions-Amen."<br />
<br />
He said certain electronic components within the card reader system which will be used in Saturday’s election have not only been compromised but that the encryption codes and so-called "master key" may have been made available to the APC or their friends and agents.<br />
<br />
He said this would enable the opposition to access the system, fabricate and generate fake votes and manipulate the voting patterns to their advantage.<br />
<br />
"This constitute a very serious breach of security and it is a criminal offence. It is also very dangerous.<br />
<br />
"Worst still, it can easily be carried out successfully because, if done quietly and properly and without any deep scrutiny, it is virtually fool-proof," he said.<br />
<br />
He added that all one needs to make it work is to have certain relevant and key INEC officials that are in the know to work closely with the supplier of the card readers, and an "opposition party that is so hungry and desperate for power that they are ready to pay large sums of money to their friends and associates to help them get it by hook or by crook".<br />
<br />
Speaking further, Mr. Fani-Kayode said he believes that all those components are now in place and that the "biggest and most brazen attempt to rig elections in the history of our country will take place on Saturday if the necessary measures are not taken to prevent it".<br />
<br />
"If the conspiracy is not exposed, if the Nigerian people do not rise up and demand answers, if the plan is not intercepted and aborted, if the Chairman of INEC does not answer the relevant questions and take the necessary steps and if the relevant individuals, including Sani Musa and his collaborators and co-conspirators in INEC and the opposition, are not called to order, arrested, interrogated and prosecuted, their plan may well succeed," he said.<br />
<br />
Mr. Fani-Kayode said the PDP cannot sit by idly and remain silent when a "desperate group of ruthless and greedy little men, in collusion with their friends in the APC, rob the Nigerian people of their historic opportunity to elect a President of their choice".<br />
<br />
He said INEC and the APC plan to sit in a dark room somewhere and rig the 'in the most sophisticated manner even before it holds".<br />
<br />
"This is unacceptable and it is incumbent upon us, as a responsible, accountable and sensible campaign organisation to expose the rot, point out the dangers of doing nothing about it, finger and identify those that are involved and call on the authorities to do something about it before it is too late," he said.<br />
<br />
He however, gave the assurance that in spite of everything; the PDP and Mr. Jonathan are not are not worried about what the outcome of Saturday’s election will be.<br />
<br />
"We believe that we have the backing and full support of the Nigerian people and we believe that we shall not only win but that we shall win convincingly," he said.<br />
<br />
He also ask officials of the PDP and its supporters as well as polling agents to be very vigilant at every polling booth and to guard and protect their votes.<br />
<br />
He said they should stay at the polling booths after casting their votes to ensure that their votes are counted and they are not manipulated or changed.<br />

<b>All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari is confident of victory in Saturday's election.</b><br />
<br />
Reason: This, said Gen. Buhari,  is his brightest chance ever for the job he bidded for  in 2003, 2007 and 2011.<br />
<br />
He spoke at the Seventh Bola Tinubu Colloquium to mark the former Lagos State governor’s 63rd birthday.<br />
<br />
Gen. Buhari attributed his hope at the poll to the "selfless" efforts of Tinubu, who is the main motivator of the merger of major opposition parties into the mega party that the APC became.<br />
<br />
Gen Buhari, accompanied by his running mate Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, APC National Chairman Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and other leaders of the party, came into the Eko Hotel venue as Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola was delivering his address.<br />
<br />
His entry momentarily stopped the event.<br />
<br />
When Gen. Buhari, who was praised by all the speakers, took the podium, he expressed his appreciation to party leaders and members, saying: "I’m confident of victory."<br />
<br />
He said though the process was awash with money, he was going into Saturday’s election with  hope, "because  if I could win the primaries  without spending money, I will certainly win on Saturday".<br />
<br />
Gen. Buhari admitted that this election is his first genuine attempt to aspire to become the president, alluding to the possibility that the journey would end at the State House.<br />
<br />
He said: "In the previous attempts, I only ended up at the Supreme Court."<br />
<br />
Gen. Buhari said the APC had come to stay and that the party owes its success so far to Tinubu and former interim Chairman Chief Bisi Akande.<br />
<br />
The APC standard bearer poured encomiums on Tinubu at whose instance the APC family and others were gathered yesterday, saying it was his selflessness and commitment to the cause that led to the successful merger and the formation of the APC.<br />
<br />
Friends and associates of Tinubu have used the occasion of his birthday in the last seven years to discuss Nigeria’s problems and proffer solutions.<br />
<br />
Gen. Buhari said: "I have  great respect for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; he does not consider himself; he is a selfless person who made a lot of sacrifice and commitment to ensure the merger was successful."<br />
<br />
In Tinubu’s view, Saturday’s  election will determine Nigeria’s fate in the years to come. He enjoined Nigerians to decide between positive change and continuing with the way the country has been governed in the last 16 years.<br />
<br />
He said: "There should be no sitting on the fence; do not try to avoid it. This is the time to believe in the need for change. I am filled with the expectation of a more just and prosperous future."<br />
<br />
Quoting from a speech he made during the last National Convention of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), where the decision to go ahead with the merger was reached, Tinubu said: "I see the need for change. If you have consideration for this nation that gave birth to you, you will equally see the need for change."<br />
<br />
The APC National Leader said the storm ushered in by the formation of the APC had changed Nigeria’s political terrain. He said at the outset, the party’s opponents were skeptical about the possibility of their pulling off the merger successfully. When they saw that the legacy parties were forging ahead, in spite of all the odds, they tried to put up obstacles, such as forming other parties with a similar acronym. "But, they failed," Tinubu added.<br />
<br />
He said before last year’s APC presidential primary, they had derided Buhari, "saying he would never subject himself to a primary. But, he did and won."<br />
<br />
Tinubu said President Goodluck Jonathan had already seen the handwriting on the wall, "that is why he and his party were rejecting the use of card readers". He said this is evident in the several desperate efforts to hold on to power. In the process, he added, the President is destroying the country’s national institutions.<br />
<br />
The APC leader said the time for "common sense revolution" had come. But, in calling for common sense revolution, he said, "I cannot advocate violence". He said the kind of revolution he is calling for is a revolution to repair and restructure the nation "with our votes".<br />
<br />
He added: "We must move forward to mold a better Nigeria, out of the clay we have in our hands, the PVC, which means, please vote for change."<br />
<br />
The event was attended by leaders of the party from far and near and friends and associates of Tinubu.<br />
<br />
Gen. Buhari’s running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, denied that there was any oath between him and Tinubu to step down for the former Lagos State governor six months after becoming the vice president.<br />
<br />
He said after the PDP campaign council made the allegation, Tinubu jocularly asked him whether he swore to the oath at Okija Shrine.<br />
<br />
Osinbajo described Tinubu as a team player and astute leader who allowed robust debate by his executive council members when he was governor, adding that he never knew the former governor before he chose him as his Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in 1999.<br />
<br />
He also denied the allegations in the hate documentary run against Tinubu by the PDP that he owns the whole of Lagos - including Oriental Hotel in Lekki. "I know surely that he does not own the hotel because I know the owners and if he owns it, everybody will have a room there."<br />
<br />
Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola said providing electricity is no rocket science. He said the PDP-led Federal Government had failed to provide power because of its lack of vision and went on to enumerate his administration’s numerous achievements in the sector.<br />
<br />
Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi described Tinubu as "a strategist and a tactician". According to the governor, it is rare to see a person who combines both attributes.<br />
<br />
Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola described Tinubu as "an icon through whom many great leaders had risen".<br />
<br />
He condemned "declining federal allocation" to states saying it had made it difficult for them to meet most of their obligations, including workers' salary.<br />
<br />
"I have found it hard to pay the wage bills owing to the declining federal allocation which has reduced by 40 per cent since 2013, making it difficult for government to meet up its responsibilities."<br />
<br />
Aregbesola said the situation became so bad at a time that he resorted to the state’s reserves and exhausted it on payment of salaries.<br />
<br />
The governor added that the government went ahead to accumulate ₦12 billion debts in its bid to ensure that salaries were paid.<br />
<br />
He said that he would not mind to borrow more "just to ensure that workers are paid, but the banks would not grant more loans."<br />
<br />
Aregbesola said: "Osun is next to Lagos in the sheer size of its civil service.<br />
<br />
"In fact, the state inherited 50 per cent of all the workers in the old Western State and more than 75 per cent in the old Oyo State.<br />
<br />
"I was meeting my wage bill of over ₦3.6 billion with ₦4.6 billion federal allocation until July, 2013 when the Federal Government announced a decline of about 40 per cent allocation to states.<br />
<br />
"This reduced the state’s allocation from ₦4.6 billion with which I was meeting my bills to ₦2.6 billion.<br />
<br />
"Since then, Osun has had to augment salaries by sometimes ₦1 billion, sometimes ₦1.6 billion.<br />
<br />
"Before the last time I paid salaries in November, 2014, I have had to either spend the state’s reserves on salaries or borrow money.<br />
<br />
"Today, I have a loan of ₦12 billion that we spent on salaries and I could not go to the banks anymore."<br />
<br />
The governor said that his administration remained pro-workers, in spite of the tight corner it had found itself, pledging to pay the salary arrears as soon as possible.<br />
<br />
Aregbesola reiterated the commitment of his administration to the people’s welfare, adding that he had demonstrated this with the implementation of many programmes.<br />
<br />
On the elections, Tinubu said: "We have reached point where we must make a point. History beckons. We must answer it well or not all. To respond wisely is to open ourselves to a better future.<br />
<br />
"There can be no more fence-sitting because that fence has been torn down by the vast disparity between our current reality and our desired future.<br />
<br />
"We have a decision to make. We must decide whether wisdom is better than cunning, if bravery is sounder than bribe, if compassion speaks more than corruption, if patriotism is a more worthy vocation than pillage and if love of the nation and its people can overcome the love of power and stolen privilege.<br />
<br />
"I am filled with the expectation of a more just and rightful future. My conviction has always been this day would come."<br />
<br />
"To save his post, Jonathan and his team would eagerly corrupt every national institution within reach. Everything is for sale and nothing is left sacred.<br />
<br />
"Although the nation suffers an economic downswing that will require astute policy to overcome, Jonathan has raided the national coffers as if money were as plentiful as sand. There is no dollar in this nation that his hand has not tried to grab. No naira that his underlings have not tried to pinch.<br />
<br />
"They have thrown money at Christian and Muslim clerics, attempting to buy two great faiths as if they were two cheap commodities. As such, they have attempted to turn our houses of worship into open dens of corruption.<br />
<br />
"They have dangled money in the face of our traditional fathers believing their conscience is for sale. Many have been brave enough to cohere to the nobility of their office more than worry about the expansion of their bank accounts.<br />
<br />
"They have corrupted some civil society groups and organizations to engage in violent protest against the electoral process and the use of the card readers. They oppose the card reading machine because the instruments foil their customary avenues of vote rigging.<br />
<br />
"Jonathan‘s team has already read the writing on the wall. They would be handed a defeat so resounding that they would begin to fight among themselves believing that each betrayed the other."<br />

<b>As the nation prepares to vote for a new president come Saturday the 28th of March, the APC Presidential Campaign Council has alerted the nation to the emerging facts of a sinister and desperate </b><b>plan by the Federal Government to deliberately engineer trouble in six Nigerian states in order to avert the imminent defeat on that day.</b><br />
<br />
A statement on Wednesday afternoon by the Directorate of Media and Publicity of the APC presidential campaign signed by Garba Shehu said that "credible information available to the campaign from deep inside the federal governmen have starkly put it to us that the PDP administration has hatched a plan by which the States of Lagos, Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Kano and Sokoto will be racked by trouble of a serious magnitude in order to sabotage the presidential election and democracy in the country in a sinister, wicked and selfish objective."<br />
<br />
The statement said the crises to be fermented in these States "is clearly intended generate a crisis of serious proportions that would lead to either the postponement or the outright cancellation of the election in order to exclude the states from the first round of voting. By this plan, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will be forced to cancel the elections and have<br />
these states conduct rescheduled elections a week later.<br />
<br />
"The whole idea, according to these credible sources is that the government wants to buy time yet again, gain energy and pump resources into a renewed crackdown on popular will in those states. They deploy the entire muscle and resources of the federal government to steal the election in the six states."<br />
<br />
The APCPCO statement announced that "100 trained saboteurs" had been deployed to each of the states to carry out these felonious acts."<br />
<br />
It advised Nigerians in the interest of the well-being of "our hard-won democracy and the overall interest of the nation to wake up to the reality of the threats and to do all that is lawful to resist the attempts by the outgoing Jonathan administration to bring down our democracy at the point of their exit."<br />

<b>Hate campaigners got a bloody nose yesterday. Former President Ibrahim Babangida protested against attacks by President Goodluck Jonathan’s supporters on his person and others.</b><br />
<br />
He cited other generals under attack as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the late ex-Head of State Gen, Sani Abacha, ex-Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar and a former Minister of Defence, Gen. T.Y Danjuma.<br />
<br />
Although Babangida did not mention names, First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi and Peoples Democratic Party Campaign Council spokesperson Femi Fani-Kayode have been criticised by many for championing hate campaign.<br />
<br />
He said those promoting hate documentaries are "intellectually delinquent or they suffer memory loss".<br />
<br />
He said nothing forbade former military leaders from contesting presidential elections, adding that leadership training is better grounded in the military than any other profession.<br />
<br />
Gen. Babangida, in a statement he personally signed and released by his media office, said the stigmatisation of past military leaders accounted for "espirit de corps amongst ourselves in support of our military institution and colleagues when the stakes are high".<br />
<br />
The statement said: "In clear attempts to whip up support for President Goodluck Jonathan, certain persons, groups and individuals have embarked on several campaigns of calumny against former military Heads of State and presidents who have had the opportunity to govern this country.<br />
<br />
"Of particular reference is a one-hour documentary aired on Silverbird Television on Tuesday night; 24th March, 2015 that deliberately impugned the integrity of Generals Olusegun Obasanjo, Muhammadu Buhari, my humble self; Ibrahim Babangida, the late Sani Abacha, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and T.Y. Danjuma; all of whom have had the privilege of presiding over the affairs of this great country at various levels.<br />
<br />
"It is either that those promoting the hate documentary are intellectually delinquent or they suffer memory loss; or a combination of both.<br />
<br />
"I have my very strong reservations about the contents and thematic focus of the said documentary. Apart from promoting hate campaign which clearly undermines the modest contributions of these former presidents, the commentaries in the documentary against the former presidents leave a sour taste in the mouth.<br />
<br />
"Nobody is stopping anyone from campaigning for their preferred candidates contesting various positions in the elections, but to do that at the expense of the reputation, contributions, patriotism, loyalty and sacrifice of former presidents to the Nigerian state is, to say the least, immature."<br />
<br />
The ex-Military President said nothing forbids ex-military leaders from contesting presidential election.<br />
<br />
The statement said: "The military is at present combating the dreaded Boko Haram sect to restore Nigeria’s territorial integrity. What law under a democracy forbids retired military personnel from participating in politics and presenting themselves for election? Over 90 per cent of American Presidents have military background.<br />

"Leadership training is better grounded in the military than any other profession. And the military parades some of the best brains in any country, including Nigeria.<br />
<br />
"In fact, some of my military students that I tutored have Doctorate Degrees.<br />
<br />
"It is, therefore, callous, wicked, out-of-sync, cynical and a show of crass ignorance for anyone to undermine the military institution by embarking on mudslinging campaigns against former presidents and leaders with military background.<br />
<br />
"While those campaigners are pointing their accusing fingers at us, they forget to recall that the present Director-General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation is actually a retired military officer.<br />
<br />
"It is this form of demonisation and stigmatisation that often compels us to exhibit <i>esprit de corps</i> amongst ourselves in support of our military institution and colleagues when the stakes are high.<br />
<br />
"As disciplined military officers, we are patriotic Nigerians and must be treated with utmost respect and decorum."<br />
<br />
He said irrespective of any insinuations against the military, he remains proud of the institution.<br />
<br />
Gen. Babangida said: "The military is an institution that is so dear to my heart. It is an institution that nurtured my growing up and my achievements in life. I am not only sold to the military institution and by extension the Nigerian state, I am betrothed to it.<br />
<br />
"As a profession, retirees are bound to participate in politics and democracy as an all-inclusive process, same way that doctors, lawyers, teachers, nurses, and civil servants get involved in it. It is the reason why I ventured into politics in 2003 before I quit in 2010. It is the same reason why General Obasanjo participated and got elected; and now General Buhari.<br />
<br />
"It is therefore very curious that promoters of President Goodluck Jonathan’s aspiration would attempt to demonise and stigmatise former military leaders and cast aspersions on them in order to malign their reputation. This is very unfair.<br />
<br />
"Fact is; the military fought a civil war to keep this country together. What I suffer today is a consequence of the injuries I sustained during the Nigeria Civil War. I am not sure there is any patriotism that is more than that. Some of us were prepared to die for the country."<br />
<br />
Babangida reminded pro-Jonathan campaigners that the idea behind the formation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) started in his home.<br />
<br />
He said those parading themselves as democrats today had all participated in military governments.<br />
<br />
The statement added: "For record purposes, and without sounding immodest, the idea of a PDP that has now become the 'largest party in Africa' started in my home, here in Minna.<br />
<br />
"With the support of my fellow colleagues, we prepared the way for this democratic process that has now led us to where we are presently.<br />
<br />
"We built the democratic infrastructure and architecture. Those who are parading themselves as democrats today, all participated in military governments."<br />
<br />
Gen. Babangida explained why he decided to be silent.<br />
