<b>Guaranty Trust Bank Plc says it has inaugurated another innovative mobile channel which enables its customers to transfer money to both GTB customers and other bank account holders in Nigeria.</b></div>

According to a statement by the lender, using mobile phones to dial the short code *737* with details of the amount and account number of the beneficiary, customers can effect money transfer in seconds.</div>

The bank tagged the product '<b>737 transfer service</b>' and said it was another offering pioneered by the bank in the financial industry.</div>

The service, it said, was introduced to build on the success of the bank's 'One Click Top-Up' service, which allows GTB customers to buy airtime on their mobile phones directly from their bank account.</div>

The statement quoted the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, GTBank, Mr. Segun Agbaje, as saying: "We will continue to leverage technology to make banking, especially payments and transfers faster, safer and more convenient for all our customers. This service addresses the electronic banking requirements of our customers, irrespective of their phone type."</div>

The statement added: "The 737 transfer service is only available to GTBank customers via their mobile phone numbers registered with the bank and has minimum transfer limit of ₦1,000 and a daily transfer limit of ₦20,000."</div>

<b>As the May 29 inauguration of Nigeria's President-elect and the Vice President-elect draws closer, pressure is mounting on the White House on who to represent the United States at the event.</b></div>

While the immediate past U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Johnnie Carson, is asking President Barack Obama to send his deputy, Vice President Joe Biden, to lead the American delegation to the event, a pro-Africa U.S. lobby group in Washington DC and the Christian Association of Nigerian-Americans, CANAN are requesting President Obama to attend the event himself.</div>

In a press statement over the weekend Mr. Carson, who had advised Obama as the most senior government official on Africa (after the Secretary of State) until late 2013, however, requested that the U.S. President visit Nigeria in July while heading out to East Africa as already announced.</div>

The U.S. President is not ready yet to announce a delegation to the Nigeria's presidential swearing-in ceremony on May 29. according to Natalie Wozniak, a White House spokesperson.</div>

But such an announcement is expected in the forthcoming week based on traditional practices by the White House. There has been news reports and claims that Mr. Obama is planning to send a high-powered, presidential scale delegation possibly led by his wife, the VP or the U.S. Secretary of State.</div>

Specifically regarding the Buhari-Osinbajo inauguration, Ambassador Carson noted that "President Obama should send a high level delegation to President Buhari's inauguration in Abuja on May 29.</div>

According to him, "this delegation should be led by Vice President Joe Biden, who engaged with both President Jonathan and president-elect Buhari in the run-up to the presidential election."</div>

Continuing, the former U.S. official said if Mr. Biden "is unable to go, Secretary of State - John Kerry, National Security Advisor - Susan Rice, Homeland Security Secretary - Jeh Johnson or Agriculture Secretary - Thomas Vilsack should lead the delegation, which should include senior officials from several cabinets departments, including the Department of Defense."</div>

In a similar vein, CANAN and another leading U.S. group released separate statements outrightly asking the US President to be personally present at the May 29 event in Abuja.</div>

The group - Constituency for Africa - is considered one of the leading organizations in the US "committed to educating and mobilizing the US public on matters pertaining to Africa."</div>

Its president, Melvin Foote, in the statement argued that "last month, Nigeria completed its election process in a peaceful and transparent manner. While the U.S. applauded this positive feat, our involvement cannot conclude just yet. In fact, in some ways, it is only just beginning - which is why I strongly urge President Barack Obama to attend the inauguration of President-Elect Mohammadu Buhari on May 29."</div>

He stated that "President Obama's presence at this historic inauguration would send the right signal at the right time. This election was a landmark victory for democracy in Africa and for struggling people elsewhere around the world, and his participation would make a powerful statement of hope and renewal. While it is dealing with a brutal terrorism campaign in the north, and multiple other development challenges elsewhere across the country - still it is the largest economy in a very important part of the world and - is poised to achieve much more in the years ahead."</div>

CANAN, in its own statement asked Mr. Obama to consider attending the Buhari-Osinbajo inauguration as a means of further spurring the democratic fervour and ferment which is currently at play in the country.</div>

According to the National Secretariat of CANAN, "while with the help of the LORD, Nigerians take the lead in the credit for the successful elections, the role of the US President and government cannot be over-emphasized.</div>

"We remember how President Barack Obama took time to personally record and send an official White House video message to Nigerians ahead of the presidential elections, saying all the right things.</div>

"By attending the inauguration personally, Obama will cap the whole affair graciously and end the controversial fallouts of the exclusion of Nigeria in his prior visits to Africa. CANAN wishes the President take a very deep reflection on this matter and add a great spur to the ferment of change that is ongoing in Nigeria by being personally present at the Buhari-Osinbajo inauguration on May 29. It will set a new tone not only in US-Nigeria relations, but in US relationship with Africa as a whole."</div>

In his statement urging Mr. Obama to visit Nigeria in July when he is scheduled to visit Kenya and Ethiopia, Mr, Carson said: "it would be deeply troubling for many Nigerians to see Africa's largest democracy snubbed at this important moment in its history".</div>

Mr. Carson who advised Obama on Africa all through his first term in office and beyond conceded that: "relations between Abuja and Washington have frayed over the past two years, largely over security issues and differences over the handling of Boko Haram."</div>

Amosun Is A Conservative In Progressives Camp, Says Kaka

<b><i>Senator Gbenga Kaka, former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, failed in his bid to return to the Senate. Speaking with KAMAL TAYO OROPO, he highlighted factors responsible for the shortcomings of his party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the last elections.</i></b></div>

<b>After so much expectations, the SDP failed abysmally at the polls in Ogun State. What would you say is responsible for this?</b></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Candidly speaking, there were a number of things that went wrong. The first one is that the SDP came up as a child of circumstance, and in the course of building it, the people of Ogun State embraced it at the first instance. But unfortunately, those who hold the party at the national level took a fatal decision without consultation with anyone of us in Ogun State - they adopted President Goodluck Jonathan. Of course, the wind of change in the country was totally against the return of Jonathan; that is just the truth.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, they took that costly decision, and we had to cope and live with that unfortunate unilateral decision, since we are standing on that platform. Then, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) elements in Ogun State also capitalised on that flaw by the national leadership of the SDP, by going on the social media, before and on the day of election, saying that the candidates of the SDP had all stepped down for them. Attempts to dispel the claims proved insufficient in view of the unfortunate pronouncement by the SDP national leadership.</div>

Then beyond this, the fact that as a young party without any financial assistance from anywhere other than from within us, those who were using financial inducement to coarse the electorate to vote, that is to vote APC and PDP, did so effectively; raising between ₦1,000 and ₦5,000 in exchange for thumb printing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

And of course, the fourth is the rigging that went into the whole thing. Results were manipulated but I don’t want to emphasise on that, since we have other precedents. So, the cumulative of all these were responsible for the result we obtained.</div>

<b>How do you react to the impression that only former Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba; Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun and yourself, are the only known grassroots politicians in the SDP fold?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
You know, at the death of an elephant, you would see all manner of knives. So, what has happened has happened. I'm not sure that this particular impression could be a factor, because those of us in the SDP are men of integrity. There could be element of truth in that impression. However, one factor we cannot remove is the gullibility of the electorate. Once the electorate is gullible and ready to exchange their votes for peanuts, there is nothing anybody can do about it. For instance, I can tell you there is a community, a rural community, where I constructed 4.2 kilometres of tarred road and a bridge running into nearly ₦100 million and yet the only vote we gathered from there was just seven. So, that means, either the rigging was perfectly done or the people were contented with the ₦2,000 in exchange for the tarred. Before that bridge, they were passing through this local bridge made from palm trees. I saw it and felt for them and I went in there to ensure the bridge is constructed. Really, in a situation like this, there is nothing anybody can do.</div>

<b>But how sure are you that the outcome is not a reflection of people's acceptability or actual level of popularity of the contestants in that election?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I gave you about four or five different reasons, it would be wrong one good factor was responsible. But I’m sure it is wrong to say it is the popularity or not. For example, there is no way you can quantify the wind of change at the national level that wanted Buhari. Beyond that, as a Muslim, I just believe that, that is the way God wanted the whole thing to go.</div>

So, saying that some people are more popular than others is not the issue. I have contested and won election before, and I have participated in the state government. I waited for eight years before coming back again to contest and I won. If I am not popular they would not bring me back and it wasn’t once, it was twice. So, if the people decide that they wanted a change, whether for good or bad, they have taken their own decision.</div>

<b>Politically, where does the outcome leave you and your colleagues in SDP?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is too premature. Yes, there could be plan B, C or D, but the future is powerful and it is also uncertain. It is difficult to say what is going to happen in the next couple of months. However, I don’t know of all others, but for me, I am a core progressive and I will not be in any party that is not progressively inclined. I don’t think I can cohabit with certain categories of politicians.</div>

Right now what we have is confusion in the polity with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP gravitating towards a two-party state, with marginal political parties. But when you look at the APC and the PDP, they are still products of no ideological orientation, in the sense that within the APC today - when you look at their governorship result - more than 50 percent of those returned were from the PDP. The muddling would go on until we are able to get a clear-cut direction and then, we will know which one is progressive and which one is conservative.</div>

As for us aligning with any party, every time we are open. But we will wait, and I will wait as a person and then see where I want to be and even then, decide if I will be able to continue in politics. Personally, I don’t mind bidding politics a farewell.</div>

<b>A number of colleagues you started with in the days of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Ogun State, are still with the state government. Don't you think you are still perfectly at home, regardless of the electoral loss?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yes, I perfectly understand what you mean. But if you look at what is happening in APC, whether in Ogun State or elsewhere, you find a lot of PDP people, you find defection right, front and center. That is telling you that the sorting is still a continuous process. So many people with PDP inclinations, including Amosun himself. Don’t forget that the governor was originally PDP; thorough and thorough, and he is still a conservative, whether we like it or not, in the progressive camp. But since we now have Saul becoming Paul, anything is possible in politics. So, there could be opportunity for conservative to become progressive, there could be opportunity for progressive to become conservative too. For example, the late Senator Uche Chukwumerije, may his soul rest in peace. He was of the extreme left and gravitated to the extreme right. So, nothing is impossible, we just try to contribute our own quota and leave the rest. Some of us gravitate to political ideology for exigency purposes.</div>

<b>What would you say is going on in the mind of Chief Osoba right now?</b></div>

I can tell you, he would feel fulfilled as a leader. He has absolutely nothing to regret. He fought for principle and he has done his best. He should feel satisfied with his effort.</div>

<b>What if Governor Amosun extends the hand fellowship to your group?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

That is just a mere conjecture for now; it is better we wait. We are not in hurry, we would wait and see the way things are going to play out. So, with or without the governor extending hands of fellowship, politics is free exit and free entry. If we resolve to join the party, nobody can stop us from doing so. And if we decided to say: 'no, there are certain conditions that were not yet met', it is all well and good. Whatever decision we take, would be a collective one.</div>

<b>How would you react to insinuations that Chief Osoba must have misled some of you?</b></div>

We are adults. If somebody is misleading you, you must have given your consent to that person to so mislead you. If you are not convinced, there is no reason you should be where you are at any point in time. However, with the knowledge of hindsight, one may feel that, 'yes, maybe some things might have been done differently'. But then, that is another thing entirely. But to say somebody misled somebody, is out of the question.</div>

We all saw what was on ground. We know the difference between right and light. As such the decision we took was by choice. That kind of bucks passing cannot hold water any time, any day. There was no running away from the fact that something was wrong within the party (APC). A bad decision is naturally better than no decision at all.</div>

So, if a decision is taken and it didn’t work out as desired, that does not mean somebody was misled somewhere.</div>

Ex-Governors, Buhari's 'Men' Gang Up Against Tinubu [MUST READ]

<b>A gigantic test of wills is rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) just 12 days to the inauguration of President-elect Mohammadu Buhari as Nigeria's substantive President.</b></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Impeccable sources within the party revealed over the weekend that some ex-governors, Buhari's associates and mutinous party members from the South-West are trying to whittle down the influence that the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, will have on the incoming government.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tinubu, the party's undisputed leader in the South-West, is widely feted as the force behind the merger of all the major opposition parties in the country which led to the emergence of the APC as Nigeria's major opposition party.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On several occasions, Buhari, who defeated President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential elections, winning 15,424,921 votes to Jonathan's 12,853,162 votes, has also acknowledged the efforts of the former governor of Lagos State, fondly referred to as <i>Jagaban</i> by his admirers.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, multiple sources within the party informed that the relationship between the duo might have become strained in recent times as some forces within the party are bent on making Buhari to see Tinubu in another light.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Some powerbrokers within the party, some of whom are trusted by the president-elect, are said to be mounting pressure on him to reassess his ties with the APC national leader. These powerbrokers are also said to be questioning Tinubu's and the South West's contributions to Buhari's election victory.</div>

Recently, at a public function, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, gave indications of the strained relationship between the duo, even as he asked people to pray that Tinubu's "labour" would not be wasted.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"All Lagos residents should pray that the labour of Tinubu should not be in vain. A lot of things have been happening now. Some people have been telling Buhari all sorts of things. <i>Awujale</i> (Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland) and I have decided to meet Buhari because Lagos and South West states must benefit from the General Buhari administration", he said.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Reliable sources within the party however said that the gang up against the party leader started before the party's victory at the elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that those opposed to Tinubu within the party first moved against the national leader during the APC's national convention in June last year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to him, some ex-governors and other high-ranking members of the party backed a former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, against Tinubu's candidate, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The source, who is an associate of the national leader, said: "Even before Buhari emerged as the party's presidential candidate, some people in the party, particularly the governors and some ex-governors, wanted another candidate as chairman. They were totally opposed to Odigie-Oyegun who was Tinubu's choice. They believed that if they succeeded in getting their man as the chairman, they would have more control of the party, but they failed."</div>

The source added that the same scenario played out during the party's presidential primaries. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

"It is not a secret: initially, the same group of people in the APC were totally opposed to Asiwaju's choice of Buhari. They wanted either former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar or Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State. When you look at it critically, their choice of these candidates then was not based on any fundamental reason but just to oppose Tinubu and gain more ground in the party. It is funny that some of them who now move around with Buhari were totally against his candidature as APC's flag bearer", he said.</div>

But the source ended his chat by saying: "We are optimistic that Buhari and Tinubu will manage their relationship well. They will not allow anyone to come between them."</div>

Another source within the party cited an incident during Buhari's February Chatham House event in London as an example of the high level intra-party politics playing out within the party.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

The source said both camps jostled to take the credit for producing the speech delivered by Buhari at Chatham House knowing that the speech would give the then APC presidential candidate a huge mileage within the international community.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The source said just before the event, a senior party member who is also a former governor of a South-West state, had rushed in to write the President-elect's speech. The said ex-governor also presented the speech to the president-elect.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said: "Not knowing that a speech had been prepared, the national leader asked if Buhari's speech was ready. He was told that the ex-governor had written it and given it to Buhari. Tinubu was not happy because he knew nothing about the speech despite being one of the party's top strategists. He asked that the speech be sent to him as a condition for him to attend the event. When he eventually got it, he turned it down because he felt the speech did not represent Buhari's and the APC's ideals properly.</div>

"He then asked a team of experts to write another speech for Buhari. Asiwaju had to explain to Buhari why he felt the initial speech written by the former governor was not good enough."</div>

Asked why some of the party leaders appeared to be vehemently opposed to Tinubu, the source said: "Most of the people that have a grouse with our national leader believe he is too controlling and he's not allowing them have a say. But they can express their grievances through better ways", he said.</div>

But as the inauguration day draws near, sources say the selection of ministers and top government officials for the new government is the newest phase of the battle of influence that is rocking the party.</div>

The source said: "The battle has now shifted to the selection of Buhari's new cabinet. Many of those opposed to Tinubu in the party have presented themselves and others as candidates. (Some of these people are from the South-West).</div>

"There is another sub-group made up of northerners, mostly, Fulanis. They have been touting themselves as Buhari's closest associates since he won the elections. We've heard them say that the North was the dominant factor in Buhari's win and that even though the South-West voted for him, the North donated the majority votes.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"But they are making a mistake because if President Jonathan had won all the South-West states, Buhari's victory would have been hard to come by. They also forget that it was on the platform of the APC that Buhari emerged President. If not for the merger, Buhari wouldn't have won. He tried to win on the platform of the CPC in 2011, but it wasn't successful.</div>

"Having seen that their tactics of spreading bad rumours about Tinubu to Buhari is not working, they are now playing the ethnic card to divide them. Sadly, some of our ex-governors from the South-West and South-South have joined them to play this ethnic card."</div>

When asked how the national leader of the party was fighting back, another highly-placed source within the party said Nigerians should wait for the list of ministers.</div>

"We are not in government yet but some people are making trouble underground. Anyway, the ministerial list will put them in check. They are following Buhari all over the place and trying to cause disaffection between him and Tinubu but it will yield nothing. Unfortunately for them, Buhari is not likely to have ministers of states so it narrows their chances of getting appointments. Some of our party members particularly from the South-West are in for a surprise when the ministerial list is out."</div>

Contacted on Saturday, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, one of the parties that formed the APC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, said Tinubu was bound to have opposition from within the party due to his political influence.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He reminded those who were challenging his authority in the party that the former Governor of Lagos State was one of the arrowheads of APC's formation and the party's victory at the 2015 general election.</div>

Fashakin said: "In any gathering of human beings, you are bound to have people showing disapproval and disaffection about others; that is normal. The APC is not an exception. It is usually like that. Some people will say 'what is his own? He is having too much influence. Is it only him?'"</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He, however, asked those who were opposed to Tinubu to consider the positive roles he had played in the party.</div>

"During the electioneering, the PDP knew the people that were strategic to its electoral misfortune and the need to go after such individuals. One of them was Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Did you see the hate documentary that was produced and aired to disparage him at that time?</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"The individuals talking now (against Tinubu) were not put under such scurrilous attacks. Did they experience such? Whatever they may say, when the history of APC is written, you cannot wish away what Tinubu has done", Fashakin added.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
A former Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Professor Tam David-West, one of Buhari's biggest loyalists, also said that there was nobody in the APC, no matter how influential he might be, that could influence the incoming President's decisions.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said: "I don't want to comment on it because I know it is not possible. Nobody can influence General Buhari. I know him."</div>

When contacted, the Director of Media and Publicity in the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr. Garba Shehu, described the moves by the individuals as a party issue. </div>

"It is a party issue, speak to Lai Mohammmed", he said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Lai Mohamed did not pick the calls made to his phone neither did he respond to the text messages sent to him by our correspondent.</div>

In a statement on Sunday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) stated that 10 camps belonging to the insurgents were overrun by soldiers while an 'unconfirmed' number of the insurgents were also killed.</div>

"The Dure camp which is one of the most prominent camps in the forest witnessed the fiercest battle as the Special Forces descended heavily on it before it finally fell", the DHQ spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, said.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mr. Olukolade said: "four of the camps were located in a place called Iza within the forest while three others were noted to be recently established by the terrorists before the assault began."</div>

He added that "one soldier died from one of the land mine(s) encountered in the operation while two others were also wounded."</div>

"The terrorists lost a number of vehicles mounted with Anti-Aircraft Guns as well as armoured vehicles. Some of the terrorists who escaped from the camps also died as they ran into troops ambush in some escape routes from the forest.</div>

"Meanwhile, some of the fleeing terrorists have also engaged in suicide missions at Bitta where they encountered the Nigerian troops and Kiskeru across the border in Niger Republic.</div>

<b>The Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Gesila Khan, has been told to get ready to go to jail for her alleged inglorious role in colluding with the State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rig the March 28 and April 11 elections in the State.</b></div>

She is also being accused of obstructing justice by blocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State from having access to relevant electoral materials with a view to seeking redress at the Election Petition Tribunal.</div>

"In case Mrs. Khan has forgotten, we wish to remind her that there is always a day of reckoning and that it is inescapable. Since she has chosen to collude with evil men to pervert justice for pecuniary gain, Mrs. Khan should prepare for the inevitable consequences of her actions. Her chosen path can only lead to jail and to monumental disgrace", Rivers APC said in a statement issued on Sunday in Port Harcourt by the State Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.</div>

Nobody knew you from anywhere, you had nothing, no car, no house; now, that you can never replace but I understand that under the Catholic doctrine I am entitled to have another wife which is what I am trying to do.</div>

The defecting lawmakers identified as members of the anti-Dickson's camp were sacked by the assembly led by Speaker Kombowei Benson.</div>

It was gathered that the lawmakers' seats were declared vacant by Benson, believed to be a loyal member of the Dickson's camp.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Following the loss of President Goodluck Jonathan on March 28 and ahead of the 2016 governorship election in the state, major stakeholders of the PDP are leaving in droves to APC.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
But the defectors attributed their decision to the internal wrangling in the PDP, which led to the emergence of two factions.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The defectors whose seats were declared vacant are: Fini Angaye (Kolokuma/Opokuma constituency 2); Alfred Egba (Yenagoa constituency 1); Victor Prezi (Ekeremor Constituency 3) and Azibola Omekwe (Ogbia constituency 1), which is Jonathan's constituency.</div>

Benson reportedly said the decision to declare the seats vacant was based on the provision of Section 109 (1) of the constitution.</div>

Governor Seriake Dickson hailed the decision, saying it was a step in the right direction.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the action of the state legislature was constitutional and would also instill party discipline and sanitise the polity.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He condemned changing of parties at will by politicians, saying it was no longer acceptable and practicable in a thriving democracy.</div>

"The assembly has by this singular act set the pace and shown the direction of the new PDP in the State, where party discipline and loyalty, must be the overriding principles and factors for all members, going forward.</div>

"Indiscipline, disloyalty and greed have been the bane of the PDP at state and national levels in the past. Such acts would no longer be tolerated for whatever reason in the party."</div>

He went on: "We will continue to do the needful by ensuring that only those who respect the position of the party on issues are allowed to remain while all those with selfish and unacceptable behavioral patterns will be shown the way out for the good of the PDP."</div>

Also at the memorial of the late Maj. Jasper Adaka Boro yesterday, the governor further descended on the defecting lawmakers, dismissing them as betrayers.</div>

He said it was embarrassing that the Senator representing Jonathan's Bayelsa-East, Clever Ikisikpo and the Ogbia Federal constituency lawmaker, Nadu Karibo, ditched the PDP for the APC.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Their actions were interpreted by PDP leaders in the state especially Jonathan's associates as embarrassment to the President and the PDP.</div>

At the Boro's wreath-laying ceremony which took place at the Heroes' Park Yenagoa, Dickson who was represented by his Deputy, Rear Admiral John Jonah, declared the defectors <i>persona non grata</i>.</div>

Apparently referring to them, Dickson said: "Even in the Bible, Jesus told his disciples 'you will deny me three times before cock crows'. We are still having about two weeks (to the handover) and the denial has started. Those are not the examples that we should follow.</div>

"As a people, we must stand united no matter the case. We must have a rallying point. Just because election is lost at the national level, our people are running to join others for no reason.</div>

"The main beneficiaries of the system are the people abandoning our cause and joining to betray us. It is utmost callousness. By selling us out, l don't think those people will ever have a say in this land," he said.</div>

The event marked in low key was attended by few government officials, members of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and Ijaw National Congress (INC).</div>

He spoke at a meeting of Benue State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders at the party's secretariat on New Makurdi road, Makurdi.</div>

PDP leaders in the state were led by its chairman, Dr Emmanuel Agbo and his deputies from the three senatorial zones.  The governor promised to deploy all his goodwill and networks across the nation to canvass support for Akume.</div>

Akume, he stated, has served meritoriously as Minority Leader and will serve the Senate well if elected to the exalted position.</div>
