<b>A 36-year-old man allegedly assaulted his wife after the woman discovered underwear that did not belong to her in their wardrobe.</b></div>

Regis Sithole appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube facing the charges of physical abuse as defined by Section 4(1) of the Criminal Law and (Codification and Reform) Act. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to December 29.</div>

Sithole, in his defence, told the court that it was just a misunderstanding between him and his wife though he denied stabbing her using a garden fork.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"I only slapped her once and then she picked up a garden fork to fight me back, but I managed to wrest it away from her," he said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

"I was trying to defend myself from her attack."</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Prosecutor Kenneth Shava told the court that Sithole's wife Junior Ziwewe went to town around 3pm and when she returned she saw a lady's pair of underwear inside their wardrobe which did not belong to her.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"I left home in the afternoon to town and came back late," she said. "Upon my arrival, I discovered women's underwear in my wardrobe that did not belong to me and I went on to ask my husband about that."</div>

Upon being questioned, Sithole became furious and dumped the offending article of clothing in a bin without saying a word, while his wife followed him shouting to draw the neighbours' attention.</div>

"As we went outside, he slapped me saying I must not ask him anything since he is a grown man," she continued. "As if a slap was not enough, he proceeded to the garden and attempted to stab me with a garden fork, but I dogged and he bruised my arm."</div>

The wife escaped the scene and reported the matter to the police, leading to her husband's arrest. </div>

He was a friendly man who could sometime become angry and that’s when you offend him. But once he showed his anger and you begged him, he forgave and that would end it.</div>

“On the day of the incident, he entered his office and shut himself in. People didn’t suspect anything because he sometimes slept there. People didn’t see him come out throughout that day and then the next day, they called his phone repeatedly but he didn’t pick it.</div>

“That was how people became suspicious and broke the door. They found his corpse on the floor.”</div>

It was also gathered that Nwofu had since married another wife, who bore him five children and took possession of all that belonged to the dead woman.</div>

An eyewitness, who said the deceased mother was chased away from her matrimonial home 16 years ago, noted that the deceased decided to return to his paternal home to enable him make peace and reconcile with his father without knowing that such venture would lead to his untimely death.</div>

It was gathered that by the time the deceased returned and greeted his father (Nwofu) and requested an apartment where he could drop his luggage, Nwofu refused to welcome him, so he decided to drop his luggage with one of his friends where he equally passed the night.</div>

Investigation revealed that the deceased went back the following day to apologise and possibly reconcile with the father, but Nwofu grudgingly showed him one of the rooms, where the deceased entered and as he was undressing, he was hacked to death.</div>

It was learned that the teen was busy undressing, his father sneaked into the room with a big iron and hit him on the head and dragged his remains to the nearby road, where he abandoned the coprse.</div>

It was further learned that Nwofu after committing the dastardly act, denied knowing what happened to his son when the villagers besieged his house, but it took the intervention of one of his kids from the second wife, who testified against him before the villagers and the police, that he saw his father when he hit the deceased with an iron on his head and dumped his remains at a nearby road.</div>
