<b>The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Adamawa South Senatorial District, Silas Zwingina, has claimed that the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari, intends to send public office holders to jail if he emerges president.</b></div>

Mr. Zwingina, therefore, urged his party members to work hard to ensure that Mr. Buhari fails in his bid to become president.</div>

Speaking in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, Mr. Zwingina said “we have to stop Buhari and his plan to build more prisons to jail politicians.</div>

“You know Buhari, he will send us to jail for between 200 to 300 years and it is the lucky ones among us that will get 50 years.</div>

“As you know, there is no way you will hold office in Nigeria and go scot free if the authorities want to get you.</div>

“Buhari is determined to send people to jail and even APC governors are not comfortable with him and that’s why many of them are not following his campaign team,” Mr. Zwingina alleged.</div>

He said President Goodluck Jonathan is better than Mr. Buhari and needs to be returned to continue his transformation agenda.</div>

“Let me tell you, that Jonathan is 1,000 times better than Buhari and that’s why people resolved to vote for our candidate, President Jonathan,” he said.</div>

He also urged the people to elect the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Nuhu Ribadu as Governor and vote all other PDP candidates in the state.</div>

<b>The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the August 9, 2014, governorship election in Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, has confirmed attending a meeting captured in a leaked tape, which allegedly provides details of how leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and soldiers plotted to rig the Ekiti election in 2014.</b></div>

Mr. Omisore however denied that they discussed how to rig the June 21 polls.</div>

In an interview, reported by Sahara Reporters on Monday, Mr. Omisore said the PDP candidate in the Ekiti governorship election, Ayo Fayose, who is now the governor, merely went to the army camp to complain that his supporters were being harassed by the soldiers while police officers were being disarmed.</div>

“There was no meeting actually. Fayose went to the army camp to go and complain about the Nigerian Army arresting his people alleging that Governor Fayemi bribed the soldiers to arrest his people. That is all,” he said.</div>

“If you listened to that tape there was no issue. In the same vein they showed on TV yesterday on video that (Governor Rauf) Aregbesola rigged the election. It was physical. This one was physical and is not being uprooted by APC but that one was just a voice over, so you can see the difference.”</div>

The controversial audio recorded by an army captain, Sagir Koli, revealed a meeting between his superior, Aliyu Momoh, a brigadier general, former Minister of State for Defence and currently a ministerial nominee, Musiliu Obanikoro; the Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan; Mr. Omisore and Mr. Fayose, strategizing on how to rig the June 21, 2014 governorship election.</div>

Mr. Omisore admission came barely a week after President Goodluck Jonathan who was mentioned in the audio by Mr. Obanikoro, claimed the audio was fabricated and would not give it any attention.</div>

“It’s all fabrications. Why should I investigate things that are not real?” the president told Wall Street Journal, in a recent interview.</div>

Mr. Jonathan later explained that he did not rule out the possibility of a meeting, but the claim it was about rigging.</div>

Both Messrs. Adesiyan and Fayose had earlier admitted the meeting held but that its agenda was not how to rig the election.</div>

Mr. Obanikoro denied participating in the meeting. Mr. Omisore, a former senator and deputy governor of Osun State, admitted urging the participants in the meeting to calm down when they went to complain to Mr. Momoh about the disarming the policemen on duty and harassing the PDP members.</div>

“What I am saying is that if you listen to that tape, you will know the difference. The issue being canvassed on that tape was complaints by Fayose about soldiers arresting PDP or disarming policemen, simple!</div>

“All I said was calm down, calm down! What happened was that we were told the army were disarming the Nigerian policemen. So in that case is that you are supposed to be working as partners and so how can you override your partners. That was what he was cautioning them for that day.”</div>

The Naira is now trading at ₦187 to $1 officially, compared to ₦165 in November. In the parallel market, the Naira traded at ₦218 for a dollar Monday. In dollar terms, the devaluation has knocked more than $40 billion off the value of Nigeria’s economy.</b></div>

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, is the biggest loser among Nigeria’s richest people as the Naira’s slump, coupled with falling stock prices, have erased more than $7.8 billion of his fortune since February, when FORBES locked in the values for its annual ranking of the world’s billionaires. Dangote was worth $25 billion at the time; but at the close of market last Tuesday, his networth had dropped to $17.2 billion. More than half of the drop in his fortune has happened since early November. As of November 7, Dangote was worth $21.6 billion, $4.4 billion more than now.</div>

Obi-Chukwu is also the publisher of <a href="http://nairametrics.com/">Nairametrics</a>, a website that provides analysis and opinion about Nigerian stocks, investing, personal finance and the economy.</div>

Transcorp’s current market capitalisation is now $700 million, down from $1.4 billion at the beginning of November. Heirs Holdings has lost an estimated $345 million in paper value on Transcorp, and its stake in the company as at yesterday is now worth roughly $400 million, down from $700 million.</div>

There are about 15 suits against Buhari which are challenging his competency to seek election as president.</div>

Chike Okafor filed the first suit via  an originating summons wherein he asked the court for  an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove or delete the name of Buhari and his party, APC from the list of persons and political parties eligible to contest for the office of the president of the nation.</div>

Listed in the suit are Buhari, APC and INEC as first to third defendants.</div>

Okafor is asking the court to hold that the information contained in Buhari’s  Form C.F 001 stating that his educational qualification in the West African School Leaving Certificate (WASC) is with the Nigerian Army was false and he was thereby disqualified from contesting in the 2015 general election.</div>

At the resumed hearing on Monday, counsel to Okafor, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), informed the court that he had not been served with the defendants’ responses to the suit.</div>

However, counsel to Buhari, Chief Akin Olujinmi (SAN), who led about 10 other SANs, told the court that their response to the suit had been served on the plaintiff.</div>

At that point, the defendants sought court permission to serve the plaintiff in court.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Ozekhome however did not object to the service.</div>

On receiving the service, Ozekhome asked the court for a short adjournment to enable him respond to the issues raised.</div>

He further asked the court for accelerated hearing on the ground that the outcome of the case would have effect on the elections.</div>

Olujinmi and counsel to APC, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), however noted that the outcome of the case would not be a condition precedent on the conduct of the election.</div>

Olujinmi also informed the court that there was an application praying the court to set aside the totality of the summons served on Buhari which had not been responded to.</div>

The trial judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, later adjourned till March 19 to hear all the pending applications.</div>

At the last adjourned date, Buhari had informed the court of his intention to challenge two of the suits filed by Okafor and Max Ozoaka seeking to stop him.</div>

Buhari, through his counsel, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), had told the court, that he opposed the suit in its entirety. He also opposed the order for substituted service which the court earlier granted in favour of the plaintiffs.</div>

Though Olanipekun did not file any process as at the last adjourned date, he however informed the court that he was still within time.</div>

Okafor, via an originating summons is asking for an order compelling  INEC to remove or delete the name of Buhari and his party, APC, in the list of persons and political parties eligible to contest for the office of president.</div>

Members of the committee are divided over the leadership style of its chairman, Nick Eze, a professor.</div>

They accused Prof. Eze of cornering the kick-off funds he received from the presidency and of sabotaging the entire campaign.</div>

"As far as the presidential campaign organisation is concerned, the Civil Society committee is a fraud", an aggrieved member told <b><a href="http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/177413-corruption-scandal-rocks-jonathan-campaign-committee.html">PREMIUM TIMES</a></b>. </div>

Several members of the committee, who spoke with this newspaper, expressed frustration with Mr. Eze’s management of the committee.</div>

“On one occasion, he called a meeting and we asked for accounts, he insulted us and said that he is a personal friend of the president and only reports to him directly,” another committee member said. “We are just committee members on paper.”</div>

The committee is currently dormant as members appear disillusioned and too disgruntled to mobilize voters for the president.</div>

A member of the committee, who said he stopped work since early February, claimed that highhandedness is widespread amongst other committees. He explained that the selfish interest of the committee chairman is the reason the president is going round by himself meeting with every group.</div>

“Ordinarily, we should have done that for the president,” he said.</div>

Mr. Eze dismissed the accusations. He said they were “unfounded” and coming from “jobless people.”</div>

He blamed the opposition for sponsoring the “jobless people” making the accusations.</div>

Troubles began when Mr. Eze bought a bulletproof Prado SUV, shortly after receiving the kick-off funds. Members of the committee, who spoke to <i>PREMIUM TIMES</i>, accused the professor of enriching himself with the funds rather than applying it to the campaigns.</div>

They also claim that Mr. Eze cornered other cars meant for the committee and drove them down to his home in Enugu State, South East Nigeria, where he is currently hiding them. He is also accused of not letting money go round committee members and owing sitting allowances.</div>

A committee member said Mr. Eze’s posturing is strengthening claims that the PDP is almost always about “sharing money” even if its earmarked for public good.</div>

<i>PREMIUM TIMES</i> understands that the crisis in the committee peaked early February when angered committee members protested alleged claim by Mr. Eze that he had spent ₦100 million in organising campaign events.</div>

Some committee members challenged the claim, saying the less than 140 attendees at the events in Abuja and Lagos were drawn locally and paid ₦3,000 each in stipends.</div>

Members of the committee subsequently complained to the National Campaign Adviser, Tony Anenih.</div>

“He refused to show up after Anenih summoned him,” a member of the committee said. “He was later forced to appear before Anenih after police officers were used to bring him in.”</div>

Several members of the committee are now up in arms against Mr. Eze. Thursday last week, angered members of the committee planned a meeting to pass a vote of no confidence on him and demand his removal as well as a refund of all funds he had so far received.</div>

Shortly before the meeting, Rufai Alkali, the Special Adviser to the president on political matters and a close friend of Mr. Eze, intervened.</div>

The “temporary truce” was reached in Mr. Alkali’s office, members of the committee told <i>PREMIUM TIMES</i>.</div>

Mr. Eze denied the meeting was over the scandal. He argued that only the chairman can summon meeting and that the absence of minutes from the Thursday meeting invalidates its existence.</div>

“Committee members did not give me money,” he said in defence of accusations he is not accountable.</div>

The no-confidence vote was stalled but committee members remain angered and are spoiling for fresh showdown with Mr. Eze.</div>

<b>The governorship candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has debunked claims made by the State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) that he (Agbaje) had paid ₦500,000 out of the ₦1,629,000 his firm, Jaykay Pharmaceuticals was owing the State in tax default.</b><br />

Governor Fashola had, during an interactive session with journalists over the weekend at Lagos House Marina, <a href="http://nigerianewsroom.blogspot.com/2015/02/agbaje-admits-tax-default-pays-05.html"><b>disclosed that Agbaje had paid </b>₦<b>500,000 out of the </b>₦<b>1,629,000 his company, Jaykay Pharmacy Limited, was owing the Lagos State Government</b></a> as land use charge for a period of four years (2010-2012).<br />

The governor said: "we said his pharmacy owes ₦1.629 million land use charge, he said it was all lies. He said that he has resigned his position from the company. But today, he has gone to pay a sum of ₦500,000.</div>

"I have to remind him that he is yet to complete his payment. He must pay because that money belongs to the councils. His payment showed that what we said was true. I have listened to some of the interviews of Agbaje".<br />

However, in his reaction, Agbaje described the governor's insinuation that his company had paid ₦500,000 as a "political silly season".<br />
