The Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, literarily stood still Monday when workers from different departments and ministries trooped out to welcome one of their own, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Peoples Congress (APC) in the 28 February election.

Ambode, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the swearing in of the Executive Secretaries of the 20 Local Governments Areas (LGAs) and the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) was practically mobbed by the workers as he attempted to move through the Ministry of Finance where he held sway for six years as Accountant-General.

Workers from different ministries, departments and agencies and at different levels such as Directors, Assistant Directors, secretaries and messengers trooped out in their numbers to welcome him with the shouts of “Ambo, Ambo, Ambo the next Governor of Lagos”.

They also sang “Winner Oh Oh Oh, winner, Winner Oh Oh Oh winner, Ambode you don win O winner,” declaring that Ambode is their choice as the next governor of the state.

It took Ambode about one hour thirty minutes to get to the Adeyemi Bero Hall, venue of the ceremony, a distance that should normally be covered in 5 minutes. And it took an extraordinary maneuvering of the security agents to ward off the crowd to enable him take his seat at the high table at the venue of the event.

Apparently the workers were relishing their experience with Ambode who was returning to the state secretariat for the first time since he left office as the Accountant-General of the state voluntarily in 2012.

As Ambode took his seat at the high table, the crowd at the venue of the ceremony also went agog shouting “Ambo, Ambo the next Governor of Lagos” and it took the Master of Ceremony some time to calm them before the arrival of the Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN).

The Governor described Ambode as the financial surgeon needed at this time to take Lagos to the next level.

He charged Lagosians to vote for experience rather than experiment; for continuity of excellence rather than for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who have proven incompetent and made a disaster of the governance of the nation.

Fashola said Lagosians must not allow the PDP to crash their march towards more glory and excellence and that Lagos is too strategic and important to be entrusted to cluelessness and impunity that the PDP represents.
