The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Adamu Mu’azu, yesterday affirmed that the PDP would recapture its lost territories from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mu’azu said with the way the PDP campaign train was moving around the country ahead of the February 14 presidential election, it was evident that victory was for the party.
In a statement by his chief press secretary, Tony Amadi, Mu’azu said that Nigerians enjoyed real freedom under President Jonathan.
He noted that after just six major stops in Lagos, Enugu, Ibadan, Abeokuta, Osogbo and Ado Ekiti in the heart of the South West, the party was reclaiming lost territories from the opposition All Progressives Congress.
“We have sent a strong message that continuity is the best option for Nigeria so that the great works of the Peoples Democratic Party’s federal and state administrations will lead us to the Promised Land.
“Our message to the youth of this country is that the PDP is the only party in this election which can make their future greater than what it is – creating and securing jobs for them, giving them sound training as we have done in the past four years and empowering them through the You Win programme and other job creating strategies we have set out.
“We are also making the people aware of the lies making the rounds at APC rallies across the country. They say they will fix the roads of the South East and reopen the Coal Corporation mines and energise coal power for electricity.
“Have they told Nigerians how much it will cost? How will the money be sourced? You can only make a promise you can fulfill, for the days of empty promises are truly over.”
He said PDP would not sit idly while the APC was getting away with “telling cheap lies to gullible people who have no way of knowing that they are merely making empty promises.”
He continued: “We tell it as it is; what we have done and what we intend to do when we get a second term for the president. We have hit the campaign road running and will tell the people the truth on the ground. By next week after rounding up the South East cities of Abakaliki, Umuahia, Owerri and Awka, the people of Nigeria will know that the devil you know is far better than the angel you don’t know.
“For 15 years, the PDP has worked the Nigerian political terrain perfectly, deepened democracy to the point that freedom is embedded in all of us and we are not going to return to another bout of dictatorship of the 70s and 80s where progress is stunted with visionless leadership forced on us. Nigerians enjoy real freedom under President Jonathan, a situation the APC cannot maintain if they win.
“That is why people abuse President Jonathan on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere without the secret Police looking for them.
“The PDP will continue to show the light for the people to find their way under the leadership of President Jonathan who have done enough to deserve the continuation of the transformation of Nigeria until 2019”.
