The daughter of late Lagos socialite, Adunni Bankole has for the first time spoken about her mum's death revealing that she wasn’t told of her mum’s death as she was getting married on that same day.
In an interview with gossip magazine, Encomium, Mopelola, who is the second daughter of late Adunni Bankole revealed that she was told of her mum’s death after her wedding ceremony.
Speaking at her mum’s service of songs which held on Tuesday, January 13, at Anchor Events Place, Lateef Jakande, Agidingbi, Ikeja (Lagos), Mopelola recalled how her mum even on her sick bed was hands on with the planning of the wedding and hoped she would be able to make it.
Mopelola revealed that when her mum’s illness became serious, she gave her blessings for the wedding to go ahead without her.
Her mum died on her wedding day but her family kept it from her so she could enjoy her big day. She said she was told about her mum’s death later in the day after she and her new husband were about to visit her.
"I know my mom has gone to rest in a better place. She lived a good life. To everybody she was Iyalode Adunni Bankole, but to us, she was mummy. She pulled everybody close. She used to call me sweet name, like mumsy sweety darling. She was a strong woman that would stand her ground on anything. She had so much energy. She was full of life, nobody really knew what was going on because for her it was important that everything was in place,” Mopelola eulogised her mum while speaking with Encomium.
