Four people were killed and 24 others injured when a church building collapsed in northern Rwanda’s Burera District on New Year's Day.
Police said the incident happened around mid-day local time among prayers at an ‘unfinished’ Adventist Church.
The injured were taken to Ruhengeri Hospital as investigation continues to the cause of the accident.
Police however said the situation was generally calm countrywide as people ushered in the New Year.
The situation has been calm and generally, security has improved during this festive season compared to last year, police said.
"There is an improved sense of responsibility by the merry making public and we encourage people to continue," police said.
Police said all public events in churches, bars and night clubs were peaceful.
