After giving the information, the voice then added, "Vote for APC, APC is the only party that can bring the needed change."</b></div>

Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the state government seems to have stepped up strategies to aid the distribution of the PVCs-. Aside the decentralisation of the distribution of the PVCs to all wards by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), it has taken extra effort at ensuring that the PVCs are taken to nearest schools to the residence of the electorate. </div>

It also took a step further at ensuring that the people are called via their telephone lines to make sure the PVCs get to all.</div>

“In fact the usual critics in the INEC management have teamed up with others to respect the wish of Nigerians to retain the dates for the elections.</div>

“The INEC team said complying with the timeline will enhance the integrity of the commission. </div>

"Though  Section 25 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) provides that the commission should appoint dates of elections not earlier than 150 days, but not later than before the expiration of the term of the last holder of that office, the INEC has offered to abide by the 150-day alternative.”</div>

The source also added that the INEC chose to abide by the timetable for the general elections because the conditions for poll postponement in Section 26 (1) of the Electoral Act are not currently obtainable in most parts of the country.</div>

“Those calling for poll postponement should read this section of the Electoral Act. There must be cogent and legal factors for poll shift.”</div>

The section says: “Where a date has been appointed for the holding of an election, and there is reason to believe that a serious breach of the peace is likely to occur if the election is proceeded with on that date or it is impossible to conduct the elections as a result of natural disasters or other emergencies, the commission may postpone the election and shall in respect of the postponed election, provided that such reason for the postponement is cogent and verifiable.”</div>

Another source in the INEC, who spoke in confidence, said: “Barely 15 days to the poll, everything is in place for a hitch-free exercise.</div>

Findings revealed that the INEC is in upbeat mood because it has set a target to “make the conduct of 2015 poll better than 2011 elections.”</div>

A third source in the commission said: “While the last day for campaign for the presidential and National Assembly elections is February 12, that of the governorship and state House of Assembly will be February 26. The parties are aware of these timelines which are in the timetable for the general elections.</div>

“We will not allow any extra day for the parties. Section 99(1) of the Electoral Act prohibits advertisements or broadcast of campaigns 24 hours prior to the day of election.”</div>

<b>Do you feel accomplished as an actor?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yes, I feel fulfilled and I thank Almighty Allah for his mercies and goodness. As far as I am not dead, I am still working to be better at everything I do. So far so good, I give thanks to God.</div>

<b>Why did you leave your job in the civil service for acting?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I retired. I really love the acting profession and I have been doing it for a long time. I began acting even before I started working for the water corporation. I began acting in 1981 shortly after I got a job at the water corporation as an auto-mechanic. I worked at the water corporation for about 13 years before I decided to face my acting career. That was in 1994. I am sure not many people believe that I trained as a mechanic.</div>

<b>How were you able to combine your civil service job with your acting career?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I always made sure that any production I partook in was on a weekend or during my annual leave.</div>

<b>What was your ambition as a child?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To be honest, all I knew was that I wanted to be someone great in life. I never knew that I would be involved in the entertainment industry while growing. I just admired the glitz and glamour. I think my love for entertainment can be traced to the fact that I come from a family that is deeply rooted in the Yoruba culture and tradition. We are masqueraders and I know how to praise people and chant very well. When I started acting, producers loved giving me the role of a traditional chanter because they knew I could chant ‘ewi’ and ‘oriki’ very well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<b>Since you began acting in 1981, has there been any time you felt like quitting?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Never. Such thought has never crossed my mind.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<b>So you never had a challenging moment?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of course, there were challenging moments but they were not enough reason for me to quit. Things are better now because back then, we did not get any financial gain from our profession. The people that enjoyed being actors were those whose parents were rich enough to sponsor their projects. Back then, if you were unable to produce a movie, it was difficult to become a success in the industry because you would always rely on stage plays to survive. When I produced my first movie, some people were shooting theirs for less than ₦20,000 but because I knew what I wanted, I aimed higher. I knew what it meant to produce a quality movie and I spent over ₦70,000 on my project. The Wicked Boy was my first movie and I shot it in 1993 in two parts. It was a big success and it sold very well. I produced a movie that I was paid a royalty of over ₦2m in the 90s. Now pirates have messed everything up for us.</div>

<b>How much were you paid for the first movie you ever featured in?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
During that period, we could not charge. We were satisfied that we featured in movies. We were just doing solidarity jobs for ourselves. Gradually, we started charging and the highest we were paid then was ₦300. We suffered a lot before the industry became what it is today. There was a time a man called me for a job; he wanted me to chant in his movie. When he saw me, he did not believe I was an actor because of the corporate way I dressed. Then I was still a mechanic with the Lagos State Water Corporation but you would not know. When he asked me to name my price, I said ₦600 for starters but he could not meet up. He said that the lead character was charging about ₦400. I declined the job. In 1994, the highest paid actor charged about ₦1,500. I was paid ₦1,200 in 1991 for <i>Omo Yoruba</i>, that was the very first movie that I was paid big money.</div>

<b>How did you feel when you were paid such a huge amount compared to what your contemporaries were earning?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I did not see it as a big deal because I was already working; although it was a huge sum in the 90s. At that time, you could not finish ₦2 in any restaurant except you were a glutton because Naira had value then. From the location that I collected ₦1,200, I went to Ado-Ekiti where <i>Fadeyi Oloro</i> was shooting his movie and he paid me about ₦850. Within a week, I could make as much as ₦2,000. Don’t forget that I was earning salary as a civil servant. So, I lived like a king.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<b>It is a popular belief that you are a womaniser because women flock around you...</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am not a womaniser, I just believe that people surround me because of the love God has for me. It also depends on how you present yourself to people. I believe in self control because if you have sex with every woman that comes your way, then your life is in danger. If I indulge in such acts, I will not look as radiant as I am at my age. Most likely I might have contracted various diseases. If I were a womaniser, I would have thought I contracted a sexually transmitted disease during the time I was critically ill.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<b>When you fell very ill, it was rumoured that you peddled cocaine and it got burst in your belly.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I do not even know what cocaine looks like. Of course, I heard the rumour but an official of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency once told me that no one survives it when cocaine bursts in the belly. It is normal for people to peddle rumours against a popular person. Some people are image makers while others are image breakers. While I was ill, a journalist very close to me published that I had AIDS. When I became healthy, he began to dodge me. When we eventually met, I told everyone present to thank him for me because without his write-up, even though it was false, no one would have known that I was very ill and I could have died.</div>

<b>When you were very sick, did it ever occur to you that you might die?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of course, it was only natural for one to have such thoughts at that period. I began to have the feeling that I might lose my life after I had sought for help at several places but found none. I spent a lot of money while taking care of myself.</div>

<b>What lessons did you learn from your illness?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I learnt that it is not everybody that truly likes you. We have a lot of entertainers in Lagos but only a handful cared enough to check on me when I was ill.</div>

<b>How were you able to regain your stature because you looked very frail when you were ill?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That is the work of God because I did not use any drug to regain my stature. I had chronic ulcer so I had to be eating well; the only thing I could not do was exercise. I am getting over it because ulcer can only be managed and not totally cured.</div>

<b>Did you have ulcer because you hardly ate?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ulcer is not only about eating well, there was too much acid in my body. I don’t go to parties, neither do I drink alcohol. The day it began, I was fasting. I was at home for seven months without taking anything except pap. I thank God the worst is over.</div>

<b>Why do you always act the role of a saint in movies?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have acted the part of a wicked person years back. I have done movies where I was a hardened criminal but that was in the past. The truth is that when a producer sees a script, he already has a mental image of who can act the role perfectly well. That is why most times when there is a role for a quiet person, they invite me. When the movie <i>Owoblow</i> was produced, I was not a saint in the movie. I remember I was in the hospital and it was the first time I ever had typhoid in my life. They brought the script to me in the hospital and when they saw that I was ill, they went back to tell Tade Ogidan that I was ill and might not be able to act. He ordered that the movie be postponed till I got well. When I heard that, I asked the doctors to discharge me so I could go and shoot the movie. I promised that I would always report back to the hospital at night for my treatment just to honour Tade Ogidan. After shooting every evening, they always took me to the hospital for my injections before they dropped me at home.</div>

<b>How did you meet your first wife?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We were in the same theatre group and I admired her a lot. I saw her and I was interested in her. I told her that I would like to marry her and she agreed. I later married another wife but I believe everything in life has to do with destiny. I vowed that I would not have a second wife because I never fancied polygamy but it happened and I believe it was for a reason. It is God’s doing.</div>

<b>When you told her you wanted to marry another wife, how did she react to the news?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She felt bad and I begged her. May God give us a good wife; if I had money I could have bought a hummer jeep to beg my wife but I am not that rich. I made her understand how it happened and that regardless, it would not change anything between us. I begged her to please accept it as our destiny and I appreciate her for her understanding.</div>

<b>But some women will either pack out of the house or make it unbearable for the man. Did such a thing happen to you?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Not at all, she did not do any of that. I asked my younger brother and two of my sisters to help me beg her. When they begged her, she said she believed that it is destiny.</div>

<b>What is the atmosphere in your house?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One thing I like about my first wife is that she encourages me to help people, especially my family members. She always makes sure I satisfy them if they need my help. When my mother was alive, she took good care of her. God is the only one that can forgive us our sins and I pray that he forgives me. I also pray my wife forgives me.</div>

<b>How did you venture into music?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It has always been a part of my family heritage. I released an album titled <i>Appreciation</i> in 2009. I did it in America and I found out that it was well accepted, so I came to Nigeria to do the same thing but the marketer ran away with my ₦2m. After a while, I decided to produce another album and I am grateful to my fans because the feedback has been great. The acceptance of the first album encouraged me to do another album. I did not make money from the first album but I was happy with the feedback that I got.</div>

<b>Not many people believe you have delved into music...</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is not really music, it is chanting, praising people in the cultural way through what we Yoruba call <i>oriki</i>. It is infused with music to make it melodious.</div>

<b>Do you have plans to quit acting to pursue a career as a musician?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
No, I am not going to do that. They both involve entertaining people and that is what I am all about. I can never leave the entertainment industry.</div>

<b>A 29-year man, David Chineye, was among eight suspected members of a trans-border robbery gang arrested by the Lagos State Police Command last week. The Imo State-born suspect who claimed to be married to a Benin Republic-based Togolese, gave a startling confession on the gang’s operation in Benin and Mali, during an exclusive interview with Crime Guard.</b></div>

Chineye who admitted to be the gang’s informant, revealed that his union with his wife, made it easy for him to study the terrain in Cotonou, Benin Republic, thereby facilitating the gang’s entry into the country.</div>

Members of his gang reportedly stormed a micro finance bank in Porto Novo, Benin Republic, last November, from where they carted away the equivalent of ₦100 million.</div>

Chineye who gave his operational name as Ishola, said he masterminded the robbery operation at the financial institution, adding that it took him two days to study the terrain before inviting other members of the gang over. He further told <i><b><a href="http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/confessed-pastor-every-robbery-operation/">Crime Guard</a></b></i> that the gang was planning to extend its operations to Togo when they were arrested.</div>

The father of one who was full of remorse said that his pastor and members of his church, whose name he gave as Christ Ascension Church, Benin Republic branch, would be shocked beyond imagination when news of his arrest reach them.</div>

According to him: “I am a dedicated church worker. Nobody knew I was an armed robber. Every time I returned from any operation, my conscience would prick me. Thereafter, I would go to church for confession but would never disclose the exact sin I committed.</div>

"My wife didn't know I was a robber either. This is because I stay in Benin Republic where she is permanently based for two months, before returning to Nigeria, where she believed I was working. At a point, he burst into tears, begging for his wife’s forgiveness when she hears about his involvement in crime. He stated that he never envisaged to go into robbery but that frustration forced him into it.</div>

“It all started after my apprenticeship in a pharmaceutical store, back in Owerri, the Imo state capital. My master refused to pay me off. Rather, he claimed that the money he ought to have settled me with was spent on the treatment of my ailing brother few months back. I left in anger and worked as a bus conductor until the engine of the bus got knocked.</div>

I was idle for some months, during which I met my wife who was visiting Nigeria for the first time. I went to Benin Republic with her, where I met some friends who introduced me into robbery. I started by breaking into peoples’ apartments, but it was not lucrative because at times, I won’t get anything from the houses”.</div>

In his desperation to eke a living, he returned back to Nigeria last year, where he reportedly met members of another robbery gang. He confessed that he went on operation twice with the new gang but only got between ₦20,000 and ₦50,000 , an amount he said was not enough to meet his needs.</div>

Continuing, he said: “During one of our meetings, I told my members that we should step up by going to operate in Benin Republic, since their police were not as effective as ours. The first operation was in a filling station in Benin Republic. It took me two days to survey the place before I invited members of the gang.</div>

"At the end of the operation, we lodged in a hotel there for two days, shared the loot before others left, while I stayed back. Three weeks later, as I was driving around <i>Porto Novo</i>, I saw a micro-finance bank. I studied the terrain that day and came back the next day to continue. I observed that policemen were not stationed there and that only unarmed private guards were there.</div>

Quickly, I came to Nigeria to inform my members and left back for Benin Republic. Three days later, we struck at the bank and made away with ₦100 million equivalent.</div>

During operation, we don’t use our real names. For instance, my operational name is Ishola. We have names like Mensah, Koffi, Messiah, Master, etc. This is to give our victims the impression that we were from Benin Republic.</div>

Since then, she has been fasting and praying against sudden death. But I assured her all was well and that I was not into any dirty deal. If I had known I would have returned to Benin Republic, instead of remaining here in Nigeria.”</div>

Another suspected member of the gang, Ifeanacho Igwe (35), told <i>Crime Guard</i> that he was forced into robbery by one Nnamdi, whom he said invited him over after he requested financial assistance from him. The invitation according to Igwe, turned out to be his worst nightmare.</div>

It was also learnt that the consultants have the ears of some senior INEC officials, whose sources said had been working to undermine Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega.</div>

A source, who spoke in confidence, said: "These consultants have been engaged to study the election process and get involved in the way the state and the PDP react to issues on INEC.</div>

"The consultants have also been mandated to sniff around, identify the weak points in the voting process and advise PDP on how to join issues with the election management body.</div>

"We are also suspecting that they want to study the system and how it can be subverted. In fact, their coordinator is expected to relate with some top members of INEC management.</div>

Presently, the law does not allow the voting outside Nigeria and so this year Nigerians in Diaspora will not vote but I will work towards it <b><span style="color: #cc0000;"><u>by 2015 even though I will not be running for election</u></span></b>.”</div>

On the issue of security, Jonathan said the government was doing everything possible to arrest the situation. He disclosed that all those involved in the October 1 bombing had been arrested and were being prosecuted. On education, the President said, the nine new approved universities were to be specialised and to be headed by at least three Nigerians experts in Diaspora.</div>

The President also disclosed that the government is looking towards reviewing the country’s foreign policy to ensure that Nigeria gets maximum benefit from its roles and contributions to international organizations like the AU, UN and ECOWAS.</div>

He lamented that right now Nigeria’s contributions were not being recognized adding that “there is need for Nigeria to have something in return for our investments. We are investing so much but it is not being noticed and there is need to reverse that trend".</div>

On the concerns about road network and transportation in the country, President Jonathan assured that the railway system will be revamp [sic] because presently heavy duty vehicles were destroying the roads. “Why we cannot have continuous road maintenance for now because no contractor wants to go into it because of the continuous pressure on the road by heavy duty vehicles. That is why we are working to ensure that we revamp the rail”.</div>

In the heated conversation that lasted over 20 minutes, the pro-Jonathan militant was non repentant and aggressively supported his campaign for the continued reign of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.</div>

I told him that at a time I had respected him (Dokubo) but now he has lost all my respect; asking how much money would make him support a killer leadership. I asked how insensitive he was witnessing how Jonathan’s corruption had undermined the army and how the president’s failures (not complying with the Paris summit agreement to station 700 troops to defend the border) directly led for instance to the death of over 2500 defenseless Nigerians at Baga.</div>

He mentioned Fulani.</div>

I asked what the poor Kanuri fishermen and farmers of Baga had to do with a so-called Fulani thing.</div>

He responded that the killings were in the north and he had no business or care about that. He further cited wars in other places and the example of Libya and the sack of Moammar Gaddafi.</div>

I told him that in those cases there was not an inebriated and cluelessly corrupt government that caused the preventable wars and asked him why then does he support Jonathan who disgraced Africa being the first African leader to support the NATO destruction of Gaddafi and Libya in effect, while great leaders like Jacob Zuma stood behind Libya.</div>

He said something about having trained in Libya and accused General Buhari, chief opposition candidate of receiving funds for his presidential campaign in 2011 from Gaddafi.</div>

I did not understand his point, because I supported Gaddafi and Libya against the colonialist sponsored invasion and have no grouse with Gaddafi.</div>

I insisted; that why will he support a Jonathan who aided the hegemonists destroy North Africa by sacking Gaddafi, now leading to the proliferation of arms and instability in the entire region.</div>

I went on to ask him how much he had been paid and what this money was worth, that it made him sell his soul for a hopeless candidate.</div>

He continued a tirade against the North, the “Gambari’s” and the Yorubas, saying all were traitors and that why am I interested in the Fulani ruling me.</div>

I told him that this conversation had nothing to do with Buhari; that if he wanted he should not support anyone, or should have brought out a responsible candidate from his family, but how does his conscience feel supporting someone who was killing innocent people across the country.</div>

He responded again accusing Yorubas, the group to which I belong, of being traitors and bragging of all the bombs his terror group had detonated across Yoruba land.</div>

I told him that his desperation for a penny had made him betray the true struggle of the Ijaw people; I pointed out that Bayelsa was the most polluted piece of land on the planet with terrible suffering.</div>

He challenged my stats and asked me what I knew about Bayelsa.</div>

He was reported to have made the statement last Sunday when the President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan came to worship at Faith Tabernacle, which is the headquarters of the ministry.</b></div>

The falsehood that is being spread around by mischief makers is that the Bishop, while praying for the President, said, “<b><a href="http://nigerianewsroom.blogspot.com/2015/01/to-bishop-oyedepo-gatekeeper-of-hell.html">I will open the gates of hell to anyone who oppose you.</a></b>” A little later, some others who in an attempt to “defend” the Bishop, came up with another quote purportedly said by Dr. Oyedepo, which is: “I will open the gates of hell to those who oppose the peace of this nation.”</div>

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who is also the presidential candidate of the ruling party – the PDP, came to the church as the President of this country, not as a candidate in the forthcoming elections. And Bishop Oyedepo prayed for him, as instructed in the Bible book of 1 Timothy 2:1-2, as the President of Nigeria not as a PDP standard-bearer.</div>

Blessed with keys to see the miraculous in his life</div>

Blessed with grace that will advance His cause in our nation</div>

Every time we pray here, God hears. The Bible says 'Wherever 2 or 3 are gathered, I’m there in their midst, and if we agree concerning anything, it’s done for us.' Therefore, in the name of Jesus, our President is declared blessed.</div>

His going out is blessed, his coming in is blessed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The will of God is blessed in his life.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thank you father, blessed be your name, in Jesus precious name."</div>

And the whole congregation shouted "Amen". That was it!</div>

4. It is very clear that these mischief makers where waiting for an opportunity, which presented itself in President Jonathan’s visit to the church in the heat of the campaigns. And with what we have seen, most politicians can do just anything to whip up sentiments and score cheap political points.</div>

5. The church has never been involved in partisan politics but has been prayerfully active in ensuring that the Nigerian ship doesn’t sink</div>

6. The church has always obeyed the biblical injunction to pray for those in authority and the “peace of Jerusalem.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
7. This is not an attempt to defend the church or Bishop Oyedepo, as we already know that no matter how far a lie has travelled, the truth will definitely overtake it.</div>

8. This is also not an attempt to defend God, because the Almighty God is more than able to defend himself.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
9. As you read this, no one has even called to confirm from the ministry the veracity of this claim and a video recording of the service which is equally online has been labeled “doctored” by those who are bent on dragging the name of the church into partisan politics.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
10. For the record, this is exactly what happened; whatever is being peddled was obviously created by those who want to benefit politically from the controversy; and promoted by bloggers who want to drive traffic to their sites; and spread by those who already think they have an axe to grind with their perceived lifestyle of Bishop Oyedepo.</div>
