Madam Adeyinka was sitting in her shop in one of the popular markets in Lagos, when her phone rang; it was a Lagos landline 014537047. When she picked the phone, it was a very clear masculine voice, which instructed her to get her Permanent Voter Card (PVC), in a nearby Primary School in Surulere, her neighborhood. After giving the information, the voice then added, "Vote for APC, APC is the only party that can bring the needed change."
A man also claimed to have received a customised text message from the All Progressives Congress (APC), canvassing for his vote.
Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the state government seems to have stepped up strategies to aid the distribution of the PVCs-. Aside the decentralisation of the distribution of the PVCs to all wards by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), it has taken extra effort at ensuring that the PVCs are taken to nearest schools to the residence of the electorate.
It also took a step further at ensuring that the people are called via their telephone lines to make sure the PVCs get to all.
While some thumbs-up the innovation, others say it is a desperate move’ by the ruling party in the state to play on the conscience of the people.
Political analysts said the distribution of the PVC should not be tied to canvassing for vote.
