Men of Ondo State Police command are currently working on the probable causes of the death of a 40 year-old woman, Onyebuchi Simeon, who reportedly doused herself in kerosene and set herself ablaze at Ala Road in Idanre Local Government area of the State.</div>

It was reliably gathered that the victim, who lived with her seven year old son, was understood to have committed suicide for a reason which the police were yet to unravel.</div>

Reports said the deceased had on the fateful day, Monday November 10, 2014 sent her son out to buy something for her while she brought out a bottle containing kerosene and allegedly doused herself and set herself on fire.</div>

It was learnt that the son on his return saw her mother struggling with the resultant blaze and immediately raised an alarm which attracted other neighbors. They were said to have made frantic effort to save her life but was already severely burnt.</div>

The police in the area were consequently alerted and rushed to the scene where they photographed the charred remains of the deceased and deposited the corpse at the local mortuary.</div>

A competent police source who confirmed the unfortunate incident said the reason for the suicide was yet to be established. He said some unconfirmed reports in the community hinted that the deceased was suspected to be mentally unbalanced at times.</div>

According to him, the theory of insanity is still being investigated but wonders how an insane person could send her only son out and took to suicide mission.</div>

South African prosecutors on Tuesday filed an appeal against the sentence and conviction of star Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, who last month was sentenced to five years for the culpable homicide of his girlfriend.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to the National Prosecuting Authority: 'Today, we announce that the NPA filed the application for leave to appeal both the conviction and sentence. The appeal on conviction is based on the question of law.'</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The athlete stood trial for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, whom he shot four times through a locked toilet door in the early hours of Valentine's Day in 2013.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Pistorius admitted to shooting Steenkamp, 29, at his upmarket Pretoria home, but told the court that he had mistaken her for an intruder.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The state sought to prove that Pistorius deliberately shot Steenkamp.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now, prosecutors want to overturn the culpable homicide verdict and instead retry the entire case. If successful, Pistorius could face another marathon murder trial.</div>

But Pretoria High Court Judge Thokozile Masipa found there was not enough evidence to convict the 27-year-old Paralympic and Olympic athlete of premeditated murder.</div>

He was found guilty of culpable homicide, a charge equivalent to manslaughter, after a seven-month trial.</div>

NPA spokesman Nathi Mncube said: 'The merits of the NPA's argument in this regard are contained in the papers that were filed with the registrar of the North Gauteng High Court today.</div>

'This means that the matter is now officially sub judice and consequently the NPA will not be able to discuss the matter publicly until judgment is delivered by the court.'</div>

Prosecutors believe that judge Masipa had erred in law by returning a culpable homicide verdict and instead should have found the sprinter guilty of premeditated murder. </div>

A premeditated murder conviction would have returned a mandatory life sentence with a minimum jail term of 25 years. </div>

A Ghanaian fraudster who posed as an American major general to swindle thousands of pounds from lonely British women he met through online dating sites has been jailed.</div>

Maurice Asola Fadola charmed vulnerable lonely women during his 'Rom Con' scam, sending flowers on their birthdays and bombarding them with flattering messages and poetry.</div>

But he would soon claim to be in some sort of financial difficulty and ask the often widowed pensioners to send cash his way - which he used to pay for a lavish gold-plated mansion in his home country.</div>

The conman, believed to be in his 40s, has now been unmasked as one of the world's most prolific online dating fraudsters as his callous crimes left some victims penniless and even HOMELESS.</div>

At least 19 British victims were spun an elaborate web of lies as Fadola used pictures of US Army servicemen plundered from the web to claim he was serving in Iraq and needed cash for emergency medical treatment, customs charges or even to buy his way out of the army.</div>

In all, he is believed to have conned 19 British victims out of around £800,000.</div>

After almost three years of heartache and accusations, Fadola has now been sentenced in his native country to five years in prison and ordered to repay his victims in full.</div>

One victim, 71-year-old grandmother Katherine Clark from Southsea, Hampshire, travelled to Ghana to give evidence against Fadola.</div>

She had lost her husband 30 years previously and was charmed by the conman, who this time claimed to be a British builder named Bruce living in London.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Speaking to Sky News in 2011, she said: "He made feel great, he made me feel wanted and that he was genuine. It was a nice feeling."</div>

Fadola soon told Ms Clark he was moving to Ghana and encouraged her to send money to him to invest in a mining company.</div>

She even travelled to the West African country at one point to meet 'Bruce' and encountered Fadola - who was pretending to be Bruce's driver.</div>

Fadola was snared when he tried to obtain a British visa which disclosed his true identity to the National Crime Agency, who were investigating a case where a disabled woman had been persuaded to sell her house and send funds to Ghana.</div>

He is believed to have targeted women across Britain, France, Sweden, Italy and the US and was found guilty of more than 20 offences stemming from his 2012 trial.</div>

Some influential leaders from the northern part of the country are mounting intense pressure on the three leading presidential aspirants of the <i>All Progressives Congress</i> (APC) to mutually agree among themselves on a consensus candidate for the party, so as to brighten the party’s chance in 2015 election.</div>

Major-General Muhammadu Buhari; former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Governor Musa Kwankwaso have each obtained the presidential nomination forms of the APC, preparatory to its national convention, which may be attended by 10,000 delegates.</div>

Before now, the adoption of the modified direct primaries by party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had elicited mixed feelings within the camps of the leading contestants for the ticket.</div>

<i>Nigerian Tribune</i> gathered that the northern leaders involved in the intense lobbying for consensus among the aspirants cut across a broad spectrum of groups and organisations, which parade highly influential northerners from the three zones in the North.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The leaders were reportedly determined to ensure that at least one of the aspirants steps down, so that the remaining two can go for the APC primaries, but with a prior understanding that one of them was the preferred candidate ahead the national convention on December 2.</div>

The ongoing broad-based consultations by the eminent persons and groups was said to be part of a seemingly multifaceted approach by the major stakeholders of the party to produce what some sources at the APC extra-ordinary meeting, held last week Friday, in Abuja, (called) an acceptable candidate for the party.</div>

It will be recalled that the Northern Elders’ Forum sent a representative to a meeting of the APC stakeholders in the North, held in Kaduna, about three weeks ago.  </div>

The sources said that some of the leaders involved in the current consultations had “placed on the table, some suggestions on how the party can be in good stead for the 2015 election, which include the imperative of a candidate with pedigree.”</div>

One of the sources added: “I can assure you that a number of influential members of powerful institutions and groups have stepped up moves to convince the aspirants on the need for consensus. They agreed that we need a candidate that the party can flaunt his pedigree and integrity against the standard-bearer of the PDP.</div>

“So, the leaders are complementing the current efforts by other major stakeholders to ensure the three contenders reach a mutual understanding on the presidential ticket. They are already working out the possibility of the aspirants agreeing that one of them should be adopted on consensus.”</div>

Another source, who corroborated the claim, said the leaders were looking at who, among the aspirants, was not only tested and found to be of a high moral standing, but also had the capacity to lead the country to the next level from next year.</div>

According to the sources, the northern leaders and leading stakeholders in the APC believed that the race for the party’s ticket was gradually being narrowed down to two aspirants, especially going by the body language of many APC governors.</div>

Apart from the governors of three of the APC aspirants in the North, virtually all the other governors of the party had already queued behind Buhari.</div>

Accordingly, some of the northern leaders had made tactical approach to one of the aspirants on the possibility of his stepping down, so as to brighten the chances of another considered as capable of leading the party through the election.</div>

In the meantime, no fewer than two governors from another political party were said to have reached an agreement with their APC counterparts for the 2015 election, once the APC resolved the issue of its presidential ticket.</div>

A source claimed that the duo had chosen to remain at the background concerning activities in the APC for now due to strategic reasons, including the need to avoid the wrath of their party.</div>
