<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>A pastor, Daniel Akintola, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with 1.9 kilogrammes of drug substance that tested positive for heroin.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><a href="http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/ndlea-nabs-pastor-for-drug-trafficking/">PUNCH Metro</a></b> learnt that the 43-year-old suspect, who pastors a church in Lagos State, was apprehended at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu State along with one other suspected drug trafficker, Victor Onwuegbusi, from who 51.5kg of ephedrine was recovered.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was gathered that the pastor had arrived at the airport from Uganda and had tried to abandon the luggage in which he packed the drug when he was arrested.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The agency also said the ephedrine was intercepted from Onwuegbusi, a businessman, while he was disembarking from a flight en route from Mozambique.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In a statement he made to the investigators, Akintola, who hails from Oyo State, said he went to Uganda for a conference. He admitted that he owned the luggage, but feigned ignorance of the drug.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “I am a pastor with the Gospel Faith Mission International, Olayemi Assembly, Ipaja, Lagos. I attended a ministers’ conference in Uganda. This bag containing heroin is my bag, but I am a pastor and not a drug trafficker.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The pastor was said to be unable to provide proof that he actually attended the conference.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Onwuegbusi, however, said he was hired to take ephedrine to Maputo, Mozambique for a fee of $2,500, adding that he would have used the proceed to establish a business.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“They paid my return ticket and promised that the person that would receive the bag in Maputo would give me $2,500. I would have invested the money in import business.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The NDLEA commander at the Enugu Airport, Nsikak-Abasi Udoh, said the agency had commenced investigation into the crime.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “Akintola unlawfully possessed 1.9kg of heroin while returning from Entebbe, a major town in Central Uganda. He wanted to abandon the luggage, but we detected his intention. The drug was carefully concealed in a false bottom of his luggage. The second suspect is a businessman who had parcels of ephedrine weighing 51.5kg which he wanted to smuggle to Maputo, Mozambique. The suspects are being investigated.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, said the agency was fully prepared to unravel every bit of ploy that could be employed by smugglers.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<b>National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, has responded to the threat of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State to release evidence of Mu'azu’s "underhand dealings" with the All Progressives Congress (APC).</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The PDP National Chairman had faulted the calls of some PDP leaders on him and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to resign, following the heavy defeat suffered by the party in the recent general elections, especially its loss in the presidential poll.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fayose, one of those pushing for the resignation of Muazu, <b><a href="http://nigerianewsroom.blogspot.com/2015/05/2015-polls-ill-prove-muazu-worked-for.html">had threatened that he would release incriminating evidence of the National Chairman's secret support for the APC</a></b>, if Mu'azu pushed further his defence.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On his twitter handle on Thursday, Mu'azu, who is said to be outside the country, mocked the controversial governor, wondering if the Ekiti governor's "evidence" would not be like his "evidence" during the presidential campaign, when Fayose said he was sure that the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, was dying in a London hospital.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, "We challenge Governor Fayose to come out with the evidence that shows National Chairman worked for APC during the elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"We hope it’s not the kind of evidence he once said he had that Buhari was dying."</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>A generator repairer, Ayo Abimbola, has stabbed a Lagos estate chief security officer, Tochukwu Ejika, to death with a dagger.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The incident happened in God's Own Estate, Ijanikin, Badagry, Lagos State after Ejika confronted the repairer on his mission in the area.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was learnt that the suspect, who hails from Ikire, Osun State, on the fateful Saturday night, first hit the deceased with a plank in the head, before stabbing him with a dagger in the head and stomach.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Efforts to save the victim proved abortive as he reportedly gave up soon afterwards.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Policemen from the Ijanikin Division were said to have arrested the suspect and took the corpse of the victim to the mortuary.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Abimbola said his family members were in the village.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said the deceased had first stabbed him in the right arm with the dagger, before he decided to return the attack.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The suspect said he had visited the estate last week Friday to repair a generator and ask his friend to accommodate him.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “I repair generators for people in that estate and I have been doing the job since 2001. I had stayed in four different apartments but I was sent out of my last apartment because my landlord was always trying to interfere in my personal affair. He always complained that I beat my girlfriend.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“My friend, Olokun, on Friday invited me to repair his generator. I went to his house with some clothes because I planned to beg him to let me stay with him for a few days.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“He was not at home, but I met his wife. After repairing the generator, I dropped the bag there and told his wife to explain to him that I would like to live with them for a while.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I went back to the area the next day to repair generators for some more people. It was when I finished that I went back to Olokun’s house to know if I could stay with him.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said the man's wife paid him ₦500 for his service and told him her husband did not agree to accommodate him in the house.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Abimbola explained that he was not happy with the development but took it in good faith.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said around 8pm when he approached the estate gate, he was challenged by Ejika, who ordered him to return to where he was coming from.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I did not know he was the chief security officer and he did not tell me who he was. But when he said I should go back, I decided to approach him and explain what was happening to him. He picked a plank and hit me in the head with it. I dragged the plank from him and stabbed him in the head too.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“He became angry and picked a dagger and stabbed me in the elbow. In annoyance, I seized it from him and struck him in the stomach and he fell down,” he added.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He died afterwards due to the severity of the wound.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was learnt that some other security officers in the area, who saw the incident, pounced on Abimbola and beat him up.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They were said to have also alerted policemen from the Ijanikin division who arrested the suspect.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A police source said, “The man is not as innocent as he claimed to be. He is one of those terrorising the area.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that the matter had been transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Panti.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “It happened on May 3. It was reported by a resident of God’s Own Estate. Investigations are ongoing and the suspect is in our custody.”</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Their leader, one Niyi Omosola, reportedly died after an exchange of gun fire with the operatives, while he had gone to pick the ₦3 million ransom for the release of Adeboye, two weeks ago, along Ijebu-Ode road.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Describing the six days in the kidnapper’s den as the most horrible experience in her life, Adeboye, who also gave her name as Titilayo Kettle, said: “I really appreciate the police for their support, without which I could not have come out of that forest alive.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I never knew I would be alive to testify today. Those days were the most horrible days of my life and I never wish to experience such again.”</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Tragedy struck in Osogbo, Osun State on Wednesday after a 200-level law student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Miss Mary Ibitolu, was crushed to death by a bus owned by a private secondary school in Osogbo.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was gathered that the deceased was on a commercial motorcycle when the bus, which was said to have suffered brake failure, hit the motorcycle and knocked her down.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital at Okefia where she gave up the ghost. The motorcyclist was said to have survived the accident.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A commuter, who was waiting to board a bus, was also said to have been knocked down, but survived the incident.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of the eyewitnesses, a hawker, said that the school bus broke down, but the driver called on some passersby to assist him to push-start the engine.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said when the engine started running, the driver discovered that the brake had failed when he was approaching the motorcycle conveying Ibitolu.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“He tried to stop the bus from hitting the okada but he failed. She fell off the motorcycle and was rushed to a hospital at Okefia, but she died there.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of the members of the Nigerian Federation of Catholic Students at the OAU, Mr. Timothy Agbor, said Ibitolu, was a member of the fellowship.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Agbor said, “I was shocked when somebody called and informed me that she died in an accident. Mary was a God-fearing lady. I can’t believe she is gone.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He added that a requiem Mass was ongoing for the deceased at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osogbo as of the time of filing this report.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The bus and the motorcycle were said to have been taken to the Dada Estate Police Station.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although the vehicle was seen at the station, policemen at the counter declined comment on the accident. They referred <b><a href="http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/school-bus-crushes-oau-student-to-death/">PUNCH Metro</a></b> to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Folasade Odoro.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, efforts to speak to the PPRO proved abortive as calls made to her phone did not connect.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
