LAGOS, NIGERIA - A married woman who got pregnant for another man has lost her life in mysterious circumstances after giving birth to twins.
Residents of Aya-Oye Street in Ejigbo, a suburb of Lagos, were thrown into confusion few days ago after a woman, Joy Bakare, who just gave birth to a set of twins died in mysterious circumstances.
The mysterious death would not have drawn so much attention but for the circumstances that trailed the demise of the 35-year-old woman.
According to those who know her, Bakare was alleged to have been married with three children, but got pregnant for another man, identified as Fatai, himself also married man.
The pregnancy caused friction with her husband and she ran to Fatai who took her to the home of a single mother to avoid the shame of getting another man's wife pregnant.
A neighbour who identified herself as Iya Kuburat, narrated the incident to Pulse.ng:
I can't say what was responsible for her death because the incident occurred a few days after she was delivered of the babies in a hospital and was brought back to the woman's flat. She was found dead, foaming in her mouth on top of a bed in one of the rooms in the flat.
When the woman who harboured her in the flat heard the babies crying, she went to Joy’s room to find out what was happening only to discover that Joy was dead. She raised an alarm which attracted neighbours.
I was among the people who rushed to the flat. The cause of Joy's death could not be immediately ascertained as there was no report of autopsy from any doctor
The woman contacted her husband and family members and they rejected her corpse, saying he was no longer married to her since she got pregnant for another man.
The woman then contacted Fatai who went to the place and also refused to take responsibility for her burial.
He explained that he did not marry her as his wife and as such, he would not accept the corpse for burial, even though he was the father of the twins.
The twin babies were handed over to Fatai who took them to his house at Ikotun where his wife eventually knew about the adultery mess by her husband.
