<b>STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RESULTS OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION 2015</b><br />

Fellow Nigerians,<br />
<br />
I thank you all for turning out en-masse for the March 28 General Elections.<br />
<br />
I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure.<br />
<br />
Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress.<br />
<br />
As I have always affirmed, nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. The unity, stability and progress of our dear country is more important than anything else.<br />
<br />
I congratulate all Nigerians for successfully going through the process of the March 28th General Elections with the commendable enthusiasm and commitment that was demonstrated nationwide.<br />
<br />
I also commend the Security Services for their role in ensuring that the elections were mostly peaceful and violence-free.<br />
<br />
To my colleagues in the PDP, I thank you for your support. Today, the PDP should be celebrating rather than mourning. We have established a legacy of democratic freedom, transparency, economic growth and free and fair elections.<br />
<br />
For the past 16 years, we have steered the country away from ethnic and regional politics. We created a Pan-Nigerian political party and brought home to our people the realities of economic development and social transformation.<br />
<br />
Through patriotism and diligence, we have built the biggest and most patriotic party in Nigerian history. We must stand together as a party and look to the future with renewed optimism.<br />
<br />
I thank all Nigerians once again for the great opportunity I was given to lead this country and assure you that I will continue to do my best at the helm of national affairs until the end of my tenure.<br />
<br />
I have conveyed my personal best wishes to General Muhammadu Buhari.<br />
<br />
May God Almighty continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.<br />

<br />
Muhammadu Buhari has just been elected as the next president of Nigeria by a margin of more than 2m votes because on the issues that mattered to Nigerians, he had more credibility than his rival, current president Goodluck Jonathan.<br />
<br />
Corruption and insecurity dominated the agenda of Nigeria’s most competitive presidential election since its return to democracy in 1999. Pew Research has shown that 72% of Nigerians are concerned about Islamic extremism while more than eight in 10 feel that corruption (86%) and crime (88%) are “very big” problems.<br />
<br />
Buhari and Jonathan both vowed to tackle these issues, especially with regards to Boko Haram, the Islamist terrorist group that has killed more than 13,000 Nigerians and displaced 1.5 million.<br />
<br />
But Buhari, a 72-year-old retired general, enjoyed advantages on these fronts from the start. His record as Nigeria’s hard-headed military ruler from 1983 to 1985 lent credence to his promises to crush the Boko Haram insurgency. His reputation as an incorruptible politician who lives modestly rendered his pledges to tackle government graft believable.<br />
<br />
Jonathan, on the other hand, couldn’t escape the fact that Boko Haram had grown in strength during his five years as president, or that he had failed to react swiftly to the kidnap of 276 girls from Chibok, most of whom are still missing.<br />
<br />
Only six weeks ago, the Nigerian army, together with soldiers from neighbouring countries, launched robust operations to recapture territory lost to the Islamists who had declared a caliphate on Nigerian soil. The recent military successes, while welcomed, left many Nigerians wondering why Jonathan waited until the eve of an election before getting serious on terrorism. Regarding corruption, numerous financial scandals involving government ministers and allegations of billions going missing from public coffers in recent years made it difficult for Jonathan to convince Nigerians that he was serious about tackling what is widely regarded as the country’s biggest curse.<br />
<br />
The president’s campaign did what it could to try to discredit Buhari, but in a haphazard fashion. One day Jonathan’s people would accuse Buhari, a Muslim, of wanting to introduce strict Sharia law throughout Nigeria, the next they’d insist he wants to legalise same-sex marriage. Buhari, for his part, exhibited grace under fire throughout the campaign, maintaining an air of dignity. His never-say-die attitude invited respect; this was his fourth attempt at the presidency.<br />
<br />
In the end, Nigerians responded in their millions to Buhari’s unoriginal yet effective slogan of “change”. People turned out to even in the troubled areas of the north-east, where Boko Haram had vowed to attack anyone who dared to vote.<br />
<br />
Nigeria has suffered from mediocre leadership for as long as I can remember. Most heads of state have been corrupt, small-minded men, incapable of seeing further than the ends of their own nose. A principled man in the presidential office is nothing short of revolutionary in Nigeria. The excited reactions to Buhari’s victory in various parts of the country attest to the hope he inspires in many.<br />
<br />
But his honeymoon with Nigerians will not last long. Millions of people believed in his message of change. Expectations are high and it will be easy to disappoint. It is not an easy country to govern.<br />
<br />
With government revenues reeling from the slump in oil prices and a fast-growing population expected to reach 210 million by 2020 amidst high unemployment, Buhari will have his work cut out. If history is anything to go by, he will delegate economic policy to technocrats, and focus his own energies on tackling insecurity and reducing corruption in government.<br />
<br />
But whatever happens, Nigeria will never be the same again. Something has changed in the psyche of the Nigerian citizen. For the first time since independence in 1960, Nigerians have defenestrated a sitting president. The masses now realise the tremendous might they can wield when they act collectively. It is a lesson that will embolden them. The era when Nigeria’s rulers could take the people for granted is no more.<br />

<b>Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd) on his victory in the presidential poll, charging him to fight corruption and carry out reforms in different sectors.</b><br />

The congratulatory message was made available to our correspondent at Abeokuta on Tuesday following Buhari victory in the March 28 presidential election.<br />
<br />
Obasanjo, who noted that so much harm had already been done to many national institutions, including the military, however, advised him to be magnanimous in victory.<br />
<br />
He said, "With so much harm already done to many national institutions including the military, which proudly nurtured you and me, you will have a lot to do on institution reform – education, healthcare, economy, security, infrastructure, power, youth employment, agri-business, oil and gas, external affairs, cohesiveness of our nation and ridding our land of corruption.<br />
<br />
"Your varied and wide experience will undoubtedly stand you in good stead."<br />
<br />
The former president said the country "is blessed with men and women of goodwill, character and virtue across the board that you can mobilise to join hands with you in the reform, repairs and re- direction that will be imperative to put Nigeria back on the fast lane of good governance, unity, cohesiveness, development and progress."<br />
<br />
Obasanjo noted that Buhari’s victory, after three previous unsuccessful attempts, must be a great lesson to himself and for all politicians, particularly in Nigeria.<br />
<br />
He said, "For me, the totality of 2015 elections hold many lessons for our democracy and democratisation process, which are both maturing.<br />
<br />
"On this occasion, the system has been unnecessarily overheated before and particularly during the campaigns when emphasis was more on trivialities and hate, divisive, undignifying and disrespectful statements and comments rather than on pressing issues requiring attention.<br />
<br />
"I know that in victory, you will be magnanimous to start binding the wounds and bitterness occasioned by the campaign and the evil disciples."<br />

<b>The Northern States Governors Forum has congratulated the President-elect of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, over his success at the 2015 presidential poll.</b><br />

The chairman of the forum and Governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Aliyu,  in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Israel Ebije, said the victory of the All Progressive Congress should be seen as victory for Nigerian democracy and collective progress of the nation.<br />

Mr. Muazu also hailed President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat, saying he had exhibited the tenets of a true democrat. He said history would remember Mr. Jonathan for his political maturity.<br />
Mr. Aliyu, who lost his bid to be elected a senator to APC candidate, David Umar, congratulated his colleagues who got elected to the National Assembly as senators.<br />
<br />
He urged them to engage in national discuss in the best way possible to advance Nigerian democracy to the height it deserves and also to serve the people with the best dividend of democracy.<br />
<br />
He also urged his colleagues who lost to see it as an act of God. He said they should always avail themselves for national duties as the outcome of this election must not affect their contribution to the progress and development of Nigeria.<br />
<br />
“Let me on behalf of my colleagues in the Northern States Governors Forum congratulate the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari over his success at the president polls,” he said.<br />
<br />
“It is indeed triumph for democracy and indeed the decision of Nigerians.<br />
<br />
“I also thank the president of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for accepting the outcome of the election. He has indeed shown he is a statesman and posterity will forever remember him for his decision to allow a free and fair election.”<br />

<b>Lai Mohammed, APC spokesman calls Goodluck Jonathan a 'hero' for conceding ‘it will calm everything’ he says.</b><br />

“President Jonathan called General Muhammadu Buhari, the winner of the elections, to congratulate him,” Lai Mohammed, spokesman for the APC, said.<br />
<br />
“There had always been this fear that he might not want to concede, but he will remain a hero for this move. The tension will go down dramatically,<br />
<br />
“Anyone who tries to foment trouble on the account that they have lost the election will be doing so purely on his own,” he added.<br />
<br />
Victory for Buhari marks the first time in Nigeria’s history that an opposition party has democratically taken control of the country from the ruling party.<br />
<br />
A while ago, President Goodluck Jonathan called his major challenger and the likely-winner of the 2015 presidential election, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC to congratulate him.<br />
<br />
Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka said the president spoke with Muhammadu Buhari on the phone and will address the country after rounding off his meeting with his cabinet.<br />

President Jonathan also spoke with the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.<br />

<b>President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on his victory in the Saturday’s presidential election.</b><br />
<br />
A top government official told our correspondent that Jonathan had called Buhari on the telephone to congratulate him.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Jonathan is currently meeting with the leadership of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 general elections, led by a former military leader, Gen. Abdusalami Abdusalami (retd.).<br />
<br />
Others at the meeting included the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh; Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onayeikan; and a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs. Priscilla Kuye.</div>

<b>The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 election, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has expressed gratitude to Nigerians for voting him and his party to steer the ship of state for the next four years.</b><br />
<br />
Buhari said this in an interim message of thanks and gratitude to Nigerians in Abuja on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
This was contained in a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Malam Garba Shehu.<br />
<br />
In the message, Buhari thanked Nigerians “for choosing him and his party over and above the PDP and their candidate, the incumbent President, Dr Jonathan Goodluck.”<br />
<br />
The APC statement said it “Declared victory after Dr. Jonathan called General Buhari at 5.15pm to make a concession and congratulate the winner.<br />
<br />
Shehu quoted Buhari as saying the mood of the country as well as its current state, did not warrant the type of wild celebrations reportedly going on in some cities across the country.<br />
<br />
“Buhari said anybody happy with the victory of the APC in the presidential election will not be involved in the molestation of opponents or the destruction of their property.<br />
<br />
“He or she is not with me, whoever does that,” Buhari curtly said.<br />
<br />
He is expected to make a major acceptance speech as soon as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission declares the final results in which Buhari is expected to be declared winner.<br />

<b>The All Progressives Congress has lost five House of Representatives seats to the Peoples Democratic Party and a seat to the Accord Party in Lagos.</b><br />
<br />
Investigations by our correspondent showed that most of the reps lost in Igbo- dominated local government areas.<br />
<br />
Sources in the APC said the love the people of the South-East have for President Goodluck Jonathan positively affected the PDP candidates, some of whom had not even been rigorously campaigning.<br />
<br />
In Amuwo Odofin local government, which has a very high Igbo population, especially in areas like Kirikiri, Satellite Town and FESTAC, the PDP candidate, Oghene Egboh, who is from the Niger-Delta, defeated Mr. Ganiyu Olukolu of the APC.<br />
<br />
In Ajeromi/Ifelodun, which is one of the most densely populated areas in Lagos State and is home to Ajegunle (another Igbo dominated area), the PDP candidate, Mrs. Rita Orji, who also hails from the South-East, defeated Taiwo Adenekan of the APC.<br />
<br />
The story was the same in the Igbo-dominated Ojo LG, where the PDP candidate, Mr. Tajudeen Obasa, won the seat.<br />
<br />
In Surulere federal constituency 2, which is home to Aguda and a few Igbo settlements, Mr. Tunji Soyinka of the PDP defeated Mr. Hakeem Bamgbala of the APC.<br />
<br />
It was learnt that apart from the ‘Igbo’ factor, the incumbent rep, Mr. Aliyu Kazeem, had been in court with Bamgbala over the conduct of the primary.<br />
<br />
It was learnt that the division within the party gave the PDP the opportunity to penetrate the community.<br />
<br />
An APC leader in Surulere said, “We are still in shock. Haliyu Kazeem, who is the incumbent, lost the primary in December last year and refused to work with Bamgbala. He took Bamgbala to court and they are still slugging it out.<br />
<br />
“If they had put things in order, we would not have lost. Bamgbala is a former chairman of Aguda Local Council Development Area and a good grass roots politician.”<br />
<br />
In Mushin federal constituency 2, the APC candidate, Yemi Alli, lost to Dauda Kako-Aare of the Accord Party.<br />
<br />
Kako-Aare, who is the incumbent, lost at the APC primary last December to Alli and defected to Accord.<br />
<br />
In Oshodi/Isolo federal constituency 2, the incumbent, Mr. Akeem Munir, lost to Mr. Tony Nwoolu of the PDP.</div>

<b>Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda has lost his bid to represent Bauchi South Senatorial zone in the last Saturday's  Senate election.He was floored  in a landslide defeat  by Mr. Ali Wakili, a retired Comptroller of Customs.</b><br />

The Bauchi South Senatorial zone is made up Alkaleri, Bauchi, Bogoro, Dass, Kirfi, Tafawa Balewa and Toro Local Government areas.<br />
<br />
Yuguda contested on the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP]  platform and Mr. Ali Wakili contested on All Progressive Congress (APC).<br />
<br />
Announcing  the results at Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC], the Collating Officer and Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Dr Shuibu Musa, declared that the APC candidate Ali Wakili polled <b>341,708</b> votes to floor incumbent PDP candidate Governor Yuguda with <b>115,575 </b>votes.<br />
<br />
Yuguda lost to Wakili in all the  seven local governments in  the Bauchi South Senatorial zone.<br />
<br />
A breakdown of the results showed  that Wakili scored 134,528 votes in Bauchi Local Government Area where Yuguda hails from, by a wide margin.  Yuguda struggled to get 23,945 in Bauchi.<br />
<br />
In Dass Local Government Area, Yuguda scored 11,923 and Wakili won 17,009 to win in the smallest local government council in Nigeria.<br />
<br />
Yuguda  also lost in Toro Local Government Area by  30,401 votes to Wakili’s 73,033 votes.<br />
<br />
In Tafawa Balewa, the most embattled local government council in the state where Wakili comes from, Yuguda coasted home with  23,519 votes as against 40,147 votes scored by the former Customs chieftain.<br />
<br />
Total votes bagged  by Wakili in other four local government governments are 264,777 and  Yuguda 89,788.</div>

<b>After results from 18 States and the FCT were officially announced at the National Collation Center in Abuja, General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress has taken the lead with over 2 million votes.</b><br />
<br />
Buhari has so far polled <b>8,520,439</b> votes to lead incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP who has polled <b>6,488,211</b> votes.<br />
<br />
From this result, President Jonathan did not make the required 25% in 3 states while General Buhari was unable to achieve 25% in polls cast in 5 states.<br />
<br />
So far Mr Jonathan has won in Ekiti, Enugu, FCT, Nasarawa, Anambra, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Imo and Plateau states.<br />
<br />
On the other hand, Mr Buhari is the winner in Ogun, Kogi, Osun, Ondo, Oyo, Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Kwara and Kaduna states.</div>

But they did not show up for voting on Saturday. Some of those who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES in the area said the Ekaettes may have stayed away from voting because of their disappointment with the PDP and Governor Godswill Akpabio’s leadership style.<br />
<br />
INEC officials were through with voters’ accreditation as early as 1:30PM in the three units, but refused to commence voting until some PDP chieftains arrived around 4pm.<br />
<br />
The PDP chieftains, who apparently were working in agreement with the INEC officials in the units, immediately ordered all the voters to move away from the polling centre.<br />
<br />
In the midst of the confusion that ensued, gunshot was fired within the polling centre, prompting the voters who were mostly old men and women from the village to run away to safety.<br />
<br />
The PDP supporters then had a field day thumb-printing ballot papers, under the supervision of INEC officials.<br />
<br />
Security officials were not deployed in the three units. It is unclear if it is deliberate to allow the PDP supporters execute their plans without molestation.<br />
<br />
One of the INEC officials in the units told PREMIUM TIMES he and his colleagues were under pressure from their ‘boss’ to assist the PDP win the elections, but didn’t however explain who the boss was.<br />
<br />
The PDP governorship candidate, Udom Emmanuel, is from Onna Local Government Area where the rigging captured on the video took place.<br />
<br />
In other parts of Akwa Ibom state, especially in areas considered as APC strongholds, there were reported cases of non-availability of election result sheets at the polling units.<br />
<br />
The APC governorship candidate, Umana Umana objected to INEC accreditation and election taking place in his ward at Ndiya, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, because election result sheets were not available.<br />
<br />
The Akwa Ibom state chapter of the APC has petitioned INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, calling for fresh election in the state.<br />
<br />
On Monday, the APC governorship candidate led a peaceful protest to INEC office in Uyo calling for the cancellation of the poll, describing it as a farce.<br />
<br />
The protesters stormed the INEC office while the collation of the presidential election result was going on.<br />
<br />
Mr. Umana said the party would not accept the results of Saturday’s elections held in the state.<br />
<br />
He said the party, after a review of field reports on the elections across the state, had come to the conclusion that the elections be cancelled.<br />
<br />
The People’s Democratic Movement’s candidate for the House of Representatives (Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency), Anny Asikpo, has made similar allegation of election result sheets not being available during the election.<br />
<br />
“We have 365 polling units, but as I speak to you I have not seen nor know how the result sheets for yesterday’s election look like because everything was carted away by the PDP to an unknown destination. There was no election in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District,” Dr. Asikpo told a local radio station in Akwa Ibom State, Planet FM, on telephone during a live phone-in programme on Sunday.<br />

The committee comprise of Mrs Thelma Iremiren, Col. MK Hammanga and Prof Lai Oluborode.<br />
<br />
In a series of tweets this evening, the electoral umpire says "it is expected they will submit their report before the end of collation of general results".<br />

<b>The Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Port Harcourt, the state capital, hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the result of the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.</b><br />
<br />
In a terse statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, George Feyi, the governor said the curfew will hold from 7p.m. to 6a.m.<br />
<br />
"The curfew will continue till further notice," a part of the statement said.<br />
<br />
The declaration of the curfew comes amidst heightened tension occasioned by the conduct of last Saturday’s election in the state.<br />
<br />
Mr. Amaechi and the All Progressives Congress had boycotted the polls over the failure of INEC to supply result sheets to many polling units especially in the party strongholds.<br />
<br />
But the elections continued despite the boycott and the result of both the presidential and National Assembly polls were announced at about 2pm amidst protests and call for cancellation by the APC.<br />

<b>Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Saturday’s election, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, is coasting home to victory in all the local government areas of Cross River State.</b><br />

Results of 15 out of the 18 LGAs released as of 4.30pm on Monday at the state collating centre for presidential election at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Calabar showed that Jonathan pulled a total of <b>326,110</b> votes, while his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd) secured <b>19,774</b> votes.<br />
<br />
A breakdown by local government showed that Jonathan led by a wide margin in all the areas released. A total of 352,144 valid votes were recorded at the end of the exercise.<br />
<br />
The results are listed as follows: Abi LGA- PDP 19,756, APC 1,001; Akamkpa- PDP 26,775, APC 1,177; Akpabuyo- PDP 10,328, APC 895; Bakassi- PDP 1,403, APC 54; Calabar Municipal- PDP 28,091, APC 2,018; Calabar South- PDP 26,669, APC 1,939 and Etung- PDP 27,697, APC 317.<br />
<br />
Others are Ikom- PDP 28,765, APC 1,348; Obanliku- PDP 14,118, APC 2,120; Obubra- PDP 26,850, APC 2,472; Odukpani- PDP 13,549, APC 1,429; Ogoja- PDP 25,896, APC 1,353); and Yala- PDP 28,077, APC 1,526.<br />
<br />
As of the time of filing this report, results for Biase, Boki and Yakurr LGAs were still being awaited.<br />
<br />
The Vice-Chancellor of University of Uyo, Prof. Comfort Ekpo, who is the State Collating Officer for presidential election, had not formally announced the result because it had yet to be completed.<br />

<b>The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) announced that electoral activities have been concluded in Sokoto State, and publicizied the presidential election results. </b><br />
<br />
In the results announced by INEC in Sokoto this evening, the PDP presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, polled a total of <b>152,199</b> votes to lose to Muhammadu Buhari of the APC who scored <b>671,926</b> votes.<br />
<br />
Mr Buhari was therefore declared winner of the presidential election in Sokoto State having won with over half a million votes.</div>

<b>According to a report monitored on the Facebook page of Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari has been declared winner of the presidential election in Kaduna State.</b><br />
<br />
Buhari polled <b>1,127,760</b> votes to defeat the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan who garnered <b>484,085</b> votes (30%).<br />
<br />
Kaduna is the home State of incumbent Vice President Namadi Sambo. We had earlier reported that Sambo was beaten by the APC at his ward despite winning his polling unit.<br />

<b>So far, incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan is leading in the presidential election by 19,753 votes from 8 States and the FCT declared a the National Collation Center, Abuja.</b><br />
<br />
Results from 5 States from the South-West, 1 State from the South-East and 3 States (FCT inclusive) from North-Central have so far been public declared in Abuja.<br />
<br />
In all results announced, President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP polled <b>2,322,734</b> votes while General Muhammadu Buhari of the APC polled <b>2,302,981</b> votes.<br />
<br />
President Jonathan has surpassed the mandatory 25% of valid ballots in all announced results. General Buhari, however, did not make the 25% of valid ballots from Enugu State where he polled 14,157 votes (2%) against President Jonathan's 553,003 (96%).<br />

<b>President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defeated his opponent of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Gen. Mohammadu Buhari in a keenly contested election in Nasarawa State.</b><br />
<br />
Announcing the result at the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the state collation officer, Prof. Abdulmumin Hassan Rafindadi, Jonathan defeated Buhari with 36, 627 votes.<br />
<br />
He polled <b>273,460</b> while Buhari of the APC polled a total of <b>236,838 </b>after leading in seven local government areas out of thirteen.<br />
<br />
President Jonathan’s return quest got its biggest boost in Nasarawa Eggon local government which is home to an array of PDP stalwarts like Sen. Solomon Ewuga and Sen. Patricia Akwashiki, minister for Information.<br />
<br />
He polled 44,825 as against Buhari’s 7,574 to close in on a heavy defeat he suffered in Nasarawa local government where Buhari polled 29,160 as against his 19,889.<br />
<br />
Lafia, the state capital, which hitherto gave APC landslide victories in elections could not deliver Buhari in the same spirit this time as the votes returned shows that the APC got 53,008 votes to PDPs 51,633.<br />
<br />
To emerge victorious in a state which was previously written off for APC, Jonathan defeated his opponent in Keana, Obi, Kokona, Doma, Karu, Nasarawa-Eggon and Akwanga local government areas.</div>

<b>General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) of the All Progressives Congress was on Monday morning announced the winner of the March 28 Presidential elections in Kogi State.</b><br />
<br />
The State Collation Officer, Prof. Adikwu Michael, who is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, made the announcement at the State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lokoja in the early hours of Monday.<br />
<br />
Gen. Buhari polled <b>264,851</b> of the total votes cast - 439,287- to defeat President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, who had <b>149,987</b> votes.<br />
<br />
The collation, which began on Sunday evening and ended around 4am on Monday morning, saw Buhari win in 15 of the 21 Local Government Areas of the state to poll 60.3 per cent of the total votes while Jonathan could only manage victory in 6 Local Governments and has 34.1 per cent of the votes cast.<br />
<br />
APC won with high margins in most of the LGAs with Okene, Lokoja, Adavi, Kogi-Koton Karfe and Okehi accounting for the highest margins.<br />
<br />
Okene gave APC 34,293 votes as against the 3,728 votes for the PDP, Lokoja accounted for 24,658 votes against 5,112 for PDP, Adavi had 22,659 votes for Buhari and 7,767 votes for Jonathan, Kogi-Koton Karfe voted 15,358 in APC’s favour and 2,735 for the PDP while Okehi had 17,801 votes in favour of the retired General while they gave President Jonathan 5,808 votes.<br />
<br />
The PDP however won with slim margins in the 5 LGAs they had with the highest margin coming from Ibaji Local Government, where they had 13,885 votes to the APC’s 6,076 votes.<br />
<br />
The other Local Governments won by the APC include; Ogori-Magongo, Idah, which is the hometown of Senator Ahmadu Alli, a PDP chieftain; Mopa Moro, Dekina, the LGA of the state Governor, Idris Wada of the PDP; Olamaboro, Ofu, Ajaokuta, Yagba East, Ankpa and Ijumu Local Government Areas.<br />

The other four LGAs where the PDP won are; Yagba West, Igalamela/Odolu, Bassa and Omala.<br />
<br />
Of the 1,348,956 voters registered in the state, 476,839 were accredited to vote while 439,287 votes were cast with 17,959 of them rejected.<br />
<br />
The event was witnessed by the agents of the two major political parties, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, the Director of the Department of State Security in the state, Mr Fubar, among others.</div>

<b>A former President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Alhaji Waheed Kadiri, has been conferred with an academic award by the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State.</b><br />

The award was in recognition of Kadiri’s efforts at promoting academic development in the polytechnic, where he once served as the rector, and advancement of knowledge in the country.<br />
<br />
While presenting the award, the Chairman of the institution’s Governing Council, Chief Alaba Lawson, commended Kadiri for his excellence service to the polytechnic in various capacities, particularly as the rector.<br />
<br />
In his response, the former NITP president, who also became the first presenter of MAPOLY Premiere Lecture, thanked the management of the institution for the honour and pledged not to relent in making efforts to advance the growth of the polytechnic.<br />
<br />
"I am always proud of the institution. One feels fulfilled always as one sees the products of the institution in various sectors of the Nigerian economy," Kadiri said.<br />

<b>The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has rejected the results of the election for Ogun East Senatorial district won by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Prince Buruji Kashamu.</b><br />
<br />
Deputy Director of APC Gubernatorial campaign in the state, Bisi Adegbuyi disclose this while addressing a press conference in Abeokuta.<br />
<br />
Adegbuyi said: "the APC hereby categorically states that last Saturday election in the Ogun East Senatorial district was marred by gross irregularities, inducement and intimidation of voters, manipulation and falsification of the results.<br />
<br />
"We will challenge the results in the court of law."<br />

<b>Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso of Kano State has won the Kano Central Senatorial District election held Saturday.</b><br />
<br />
Mr. Kwankwaso contested on the platform of the All People’s Congress against the incumbent Bashir Lado, of the Peoples Democratic Party.<br />
<br />
The Returning Officer for the zone, Aminu Sulaiman, announced the election results in Kano on Monday.<br />
<br />
He said Mr. Kwankwaso scored <b>758,383</b> votes to defeat Mr. Lado, who got <b>205,809</b> votes.<br />
<br />
The returning officer, who described the election as peaceful and transparent, stated that the level of sophistication involved in the conduct of the exercise had greatly boosted the morale of the electorates.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, APC supporters have started celebrating in some major streets in Kano over the success recorded by the party in the state.</div>

<b>The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, President Goodluck Jonathan, in Saturday’s presidential election Kwara State.</b><br />
<br />
According to the results from the 16 local government areas of the state collated on Monday morning and anchored by the  state Returning Officer, Prof. Musbau Akanji, Buhari polled <b>302,146</b> votes to defeat Jonathan who garnered <b>132,602</b> votes.<br />
<br />
Akanji who is also the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, said 1,181,032 electorate registered in the state.<br />
<br />
He added that  489,360 voters were accredited while 461,401 voted.<br />
<br />
According to him, there were 440,080 valid votes and 21,321 invalid votes.</div>

<b>The Oyo State Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Teslim Folarin, lost his local government to the All Progressives Congress in the presidential election on Saturday.</b><br />
<br />
Folarin and the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide, are from the Ona-Ara Local Government Area of the state. They are the two major PDP leaders in the LGA.<br />
<br />
On Saturday, while addressing journalists at their polling units, both PDP leaders had predicted victory for President Goodluck Jonathan.<br />
<br />
Folarin had on Saturday specifically said he would be surprised if President Goodluck Jonathan does not win by 60 per cent.<br />
<br />
Akinjide, who is the Oyo State Director of President Jonathan’s re-election campaign in the state, had said that his endorsement by four other major political parties in the state was a sure sign of victory.<br />
<br />
Contrary to their predictions, the APC won in the council with <b>12,291</b> votes while the PDP polled <b>7,175</b>.</div>

<b>Reports from Kaduna State yesterday also indicated that Buhari was leading in most of the results collated from the various polling units across the 23 LGAs of the state.</b><br />
<br />
Vice President Namadi Sambo, who had won in his new polling unit, however, lost again to the APC by a wide margin in his Kabala ward 05 in Kaduna North LGA.<br />
<br />
Dr Husseini Momo Lawal of the Ahmadu Belo University, Zaria, who served as collation and returning officer in the vice president’s ward, announced that APC won the presidential election with <b>10,760</b> votes to PDP’s <b>1,760</b> votes.<br />
<br />
Results collated from Shiba Ward 1 in Kaduna North LGA also indicated that the APC led with 3,871 votes while the PDP followed with 1,827 votes.<br />
<br />
The presidential result coming from Ikara LGA showed that APC led with 49,146 while the PDP got 7,170 votes, and in Kubau LGA, the APC led with 63,875 votes while PDP got 6,377 votes in the presidential election.<br />
<br />
The vice-president had changed his polling unit PU-011 on Swimming Pool road, near Police College, to avoid a repeat of the 2011 embarrassment after he lost his then polling unit.<br />
<br />
<b><a href="http://leadership.ng/news/421709/history-beckons-as-buhari-sets-to-unseat-jonathan">LEADERSHIP</a></b> correspondent gathered while incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan got bloc votes from Southern Kaduna senatorial district, his arch-rival of the APC, Gen Buhari, was cruising home with bloc votes from Kaduna Central and Kaduna North senatorial districts.<br />
<br />
Buhari, according to checks by <b>LEADERSHIP</b> correspondent, was likely to win with about 60 percent of the votes.</div>
