A veteran broadcaster in Ogun State, Adio Amusa, popularly called Awikonko, has died.
Mr. Amusa died in the early hours of Saturday, following complications from a leg injury.
He was said to have died in a hospital in Abeokuta while on a routine check of the injury which he sustained years back.
Mr. Amusa, who died at 68, was known for using his programme, Awikonko, on Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, to tackle armed robbers and other criminals.
A family member, Yemi Akintunde, confirmed his death to PREMIUM TIMES.
Mr. Akintunde said the deceased, about a month ago, had complained of pain in his leg due to the injury.
"He died early this morning at 68. He was not actually sick but about a month ago he complained of pain from the point of the leg injury which he sustained years back while pursuing some armed robbers", Mr. Akintunde said.
"He had gone to the hospital for a routine check with the support of a walking stick. The pain aggravated yesterday and he just died this morning."
Mr. Amusa was the founder of the Egba Anti Vice Committee known as Awikonko Boys which routed robbers out of Abeokuta in collaboration with the police.
He retired from the Federal Ministry of Trade before working as a freelance broadcaster with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Ogun State Television (OGTV), and Radio Nigeria (FRCN).
He was the publisher of Ayekooto Magazine and a dedicated member of the National Association of Seadogs.
