The All Progressives Congress, APC, has said party agents in all the 1,130 polling stations in Ogun East Senatorial District, including party coordinators, would be equipped with mobile telephones during the forthcoming general elections.
In a statement issued to journalists on Saturday, the party’s senatorial candidate for the disctrict, Dapo Abiodun, explained that the gadgets would assist the agents in monitoring the elections at their respective polling booths and pass on necessary information to the party secretariat seamlessly.
According to the senatorial candidate, this is part of strategies being put in place to check any form of electoral fraud that any party or individual may plan to perpetrate during the polls.
Abiodun added that the agents and coordinators would be given special telephone numbers through which they would communicate with the team in charge of monitoring and collation of election results.
“The special numbers will be given to them before the election day. Apart from relaying election results, they would give situation reports at the individual polling booths, so that if necessary, security agencies would be contacted on their emergency lines to check any electoral malpractices.
“We are doing this so that the people’s votes would not be undermined by those who want to force themselves on the people and undermine the electoral process”, he said.
Abiodun further urged the people of the State to go out en masse on Election Day to vote for the APC candidates in the presidential, governorship and state assembly polls, assuring them that the election would be given “hi-tech attention to forestall any plan to rig” and that their votes would count.
