<b>Eminent lawyer has condemned the drama staged by a former Minister of Niger Delta, Godsday Orubebe at the collation centre of the presidential election in Abuja to disrupt the proceeding.</b><br />

Reacting to this ugly action, Lagos-based lawyer, Festus Keyamo condemned the show of shame saying Orubebe’s action is capable of plunging Nigeria into a civil war.<br />
<br />
According to a <b><a href="http://leadership.ng/news/422261/orubebes-action-can-plunge-nigeria-into-civil-war-keyamo">LEADERSHIP</a></b> newspaper report, Keyamo likened the action to what happened in Cote d’Ivoire when agents of a former president Laurent Gbagbo tore the election result, an action which plunged the country into a civil war.<br />
<br />
"Orubebe's action is very disgraceful. Secondly, it threatens the unity of this country. It was this same attitude that led to the civil war in Cote d’Ivoire when Gbagbo's agent entered the collation centre and tore the results that were to be announced".<br />
<br />
"That was what led Cote d'Ivoire to civil war that killed more than 30,000 people in that country. Orubebe should understand that his action is capable of threatening the unity and peace of this country. It is an action that we totally condemn", he said.</div>

<b>The result of the National Assembly election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday has pushed the opposition All Progressives Congress to the majority status in the 109 membership Senate.</b><br />
<br />
Before the election, the Peoples Democratic Party enjoyed the majority status in the red chamber with 64 members while the APC has 41. Other parties, like the Labour Party, the Accord Party and the Social Democratic Party, shared the remaining five seats.<br />
<br />
The APC will now have 64 senators; the PDP, 45; and the Labour Party, one.<br />
<br />
The development, our correspondent observed, will obviously alter the configuration of the Senate leadership in the 8th Senate which would be inaugurated in June this year, because the opposition APC which is currently in the minority, would constitute the principal officers.<br />
<br />
For instance, the current Senate President, David Mark who is returning to the Senate for the fifth time, will lose his seat to an APC member while the change in gear will also affect other principal officers like the Deputy Senate President, Senate Leader, Deputy Senate Leader, Chief Whip; and Deputy Chief Whip.<br />
<br />
Apart from Mark and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu who won the election to return to the Senate, other principal officers like the Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma -Egba; his deputy, Abdul Ningi; Chief Whip, Bello Gwarzo; and his deputy, Hosea Agboola, all lost their bid to return.<br />
<br />
The current configuration is set to automatically transform the status of the APC members, especially the principal officers from minority to the majority.<br />
<br />
For instance, the Minority Leader, Senator George Akume, according to sources, may likely emerge the new senate president, although some of his colleagues believed that another ranking senator should be elected since Mark, his kinsman from Benue, would be relinquishing the seat after eight years.<br />

<b>The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has commended the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on his victory in the 2015 presidential elections, saying Nigerians made the right choice.</b><br />

The group in a statement by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, said: "The Nigerian people have spoken and elected General Mohammadu Buhari to be the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," adding, "In doing so, we have not only made the right choice of a new leadership, we have also reaffirmed the strength of our democracy."<br />

"President-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari’s message of hope, freedom and opportunity resonates with our group, as it does with the Nigerian people.<br />
<br />
"In these difficult times, with the economic crisis and security challenges, we are confident that under your leadership, Nigeria will once again regain its peace and unity," the group asserted.‎<br />
<br />
MEND also lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for his outstanding show of statesmanship "in conceding defeat and setting precedence as the first ever incumbent Nigerian President to be defeated and conceded defeat, without any interference."<br />

<b>As the election result trickled in and it became evident that President Goodluck Jonathan had lost, his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, yesterday commenced the process of moving out of the presidential villa.</b><br />
<br />
A Presidency source said she summoned her domestic staff and ordered them to pack her personal belongings in readiness for the change of guard.<br />
<br />
“By 6pm, the truck had made two trips”, the source reported.<br />
<br />
It is, however, unknown where the First Lady’s properties were transported to.<br />
<br />
Mrs Jonathan was very visible at the presidential rallies and made vile comments about the president-elect and his party.<br />

<b>Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George says he may be going on exile following the victory of the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Maj-Gen Muhammudu Buhari (retd).</b><br />

George had said in an interview that he would proceed on exile if the APC wins at the federal level.<br />

<b>The Peoples Democratic Party has said it will challenge the outcome of the March 28 presidential election.</b><br />

The Independent National Electoral Commission, through its Chairman and Chief Returning Officer, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on Wednesday morning, declared  Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)‎ of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election.<br />
<br />
The PDP through its agent at the National Collation Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, when the final result was declared, had refused to sign the result sheet despite its candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, having earlier conceded defeat, reports the <b><a href="http://www.punchng.com/news/%e2%80%8epdp-vows-to-challenge-buharis-%e2%80%8evictory-at-tribunal/">PUNCH</a></b>.<br />
<br />
‎The agent of the PDP, Bello Fadile, who was in attendance when parties were being called upon to sign the result sheet, told journalists shortly after the result was declared that the party was not satisfied with the outcome of the election and had decided to challenge it at the election tribunal.<br />
<br />
“Whether I sign it (the result sheet) or I don’t sign it, does not make any difference. It doesn’t invalidate the result‎. When we go to court, then we can challenge the result,” Fadile said.<br />
<br />
When asked to confirm if the PDP will challenge the result at the presidential election petitions tribunal, Fadile added, “Sure! The party petitioned. Don’t forget. So the party will follow through the petition. There are rules for this. The law is there.<br />
<br />
“The result was declared on the 1st of April, I think. We will follow the due process. Like the president (Jonathan) said, ‘If you have any grievances, follow due process and the due process in this instance is to go to the tribunal.”</div>
