<b>LAGOS, NIGERIA - Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Sunday disowned the randy lecturer, Dr. Akin Baruwa, who reportedly <a href="http://nigerianewsroom.blogspot.com/2015/08/read-how-and-why-unilag-lecturer-raped.html">raped an 18-year-old admission seeker</a>.</b></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Baruwa allegedly raped the young girl (name withheld), who is seeking admission to the university, in his office on July 23, 2015.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The lecturer, currently in detention at the Kirikiri Prison, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on Thursday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But speaking with <b><a href="http://www.punchng.com/news/unilag-disowns-lecturer-who-raped-admission-seeker/">The PUNCH</a></b> correspondent on Sunday, the Head, Information Unit of the university, Mr. Olagoke Oke, said Baruwa was not an employee of the institution.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to him, no such name exists on the university’s employee list whether teaching or non-teaching.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He added: </div>

The said Dr. Baruwa is a not a member of staff of the university, whether teaching or non-teaching. He also does not belong to the part-time or full-time teaching staff of the school. His name is not on the master list of workers of the university. I have checked the staff list using his full name and initials and could not come up with any such name as of Friday, August 6, 2015. </div>

I have also checked the list of office accommodation given to members of staff of the university and his name is not there. There is no office allocation attached to such a name. How he reportedly entered the said office where the crime took place is what we are looking into as an institution. </div>

While we sympathise with the alleged victim, we are ready to cooperate with every agency of government to get to the root of the matter as soon as possible. As an institution, we do not support any act of violence, not even against women. Therefore, we will help to ensure that the case comes to a logical conclusion.</div>

Meanwhile, as the authorities disowned the lecturer, some students, in the Faculty of Business Administration, who craved anonymity for fear of victimisation, claimed that the suspect was a part-time lecturer of the accounting department of the university.</div>

One of them said: "I know him as a part-time lecturer in the accounting department. I wonder what the university wants to achieve now by trying to disown him."</div>

The Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Rasheed Ojikutu, could not be reached as of 6pm on Sunday.</div>

Baruwa, who the police in Lagos arrested on August 3, reportedly confessed to the act but claimed that the sex was by mutual consent.</div>

<b>LAGOS, NIGERIA - A former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, says former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is too critical of people and sees nothing good in anyone.</b></div>

I would not like to judge Chief Obasanjo because as I am trying to put the facts straight, I don't want to join him in condemnation of individuals. I respect him for his own strong points and weaknesses. But one thing I disagree with him is his condemnation of virtually everybody and even those around him. </div>

Wole Soyinka is not good, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is not good, Atiku Abubakar is not good, Reuben Aabati is useless, Doyin Okupe is not to be associated with. Who then is good?</div>

Osoba said even the dead were not spared of unfair criticism by Obasanjo. He noted that even MKO Abiola, who gave his life for democracy, did not escape Obasanjo's criticism.</div>

He said this was unfortunate because without Abiola, Obasanjo would never have emerged President.</div>

Whether he likes it or not, MKO Abiola will forever be the symbol and hero of modern day democracy in Nigeria. When Abiola couldn’t negotiate his freedom by signing away his mandate to General Sani Abacha, he laid down his life and I expect Chief Obasanjo to understand the fact that he became a beneficiary and should see Abiola as a hero. </div>

Nobody can claim to be the only hero in any society. Society is a team. Within our Egba community, the Ransome-Kutis are heroes. Their mother was an activist, Fela was an acitivist, Beko Ransome-Kuti was an activist. Prof. Olikoye Ransome-Kuti took his father's nature. He was a gentleman but was also an activist with his philosophy of primary healthcare. </div>

Wole Soyinka is a hero, Ebenezer Obey is a hero; he recorded over 50 records and delivered philosophical lyrics. Akintola Williams, an Egba man, is the first accountant and is still worshipped today. Society is the totality of a team. A tree can never make a forest and that is where I disagree with Chief Obasanjo. To reduce Soyinka to a wine connoisseur hurts me.</div>

The veteran journalist, who described Obasanjo's book, <b>My Watch</b>, as a distortion of history, said Awolowo was unanimously elected as the leader of the Yoruba in 1966 shortly before the civil war.</div>

He said Obasanjo was privy to the meeting where Awolowo was elected but only wanted to denigrate the late sage for reasons best known to him.</div>

The meeting which was confirmed to newsmen by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, was said to have lasted for not more than 30 minutes.</div>

Jonathan's meeting raises more curiosity as Buhari has lately upped his actions towards probing major financial transactions, especially in the military and petroleum sectors of the immediate past administration.</div>

Before leaving office, Jonathan had cried out that any such probe should go beyond his administration, but Buhari has opted to restrict it to Jonathan's.</div>

Already, two of Jonathan's top aides, chief security officer, Gordon Obuah, and National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, were ingloriously detained and queried by security agents.</div>

Another source said Ooni's body has been taken to <i>Ile Ase</i> (chamber of authority) where it is believed a transited Ooni received all the spiritual powers he used in asserting authority during his lifetime.</div>

Teaching the worshippers in the mission during the church's 63rd Annual Convention on Saturday shortly before the Holy Communion Service on the topic: <i>Overflowing Cup</i>, Pastor Adeboye said that if Bill Gates needs shoes, he would have to go to the market to buy them, but that if he should announce that he needs shoes at the Redemption Camp, where the convention took place, the auditorium might not contain the shoes people would donate to him.</div>

"I have houses in at least 188 countries of the world, where we have our churches, so I am richer than Bill Gates. Each time I visit these countries, my children would be struggling and saying 'daddy, come and stay with me.'</div>

"If I announce here that tomorrow morning, I need a car to travel to the new auditorium, how many cars do you think would be made available to me by you my children? In his sermon, Pastor Adeboye assured the congregation that God is sufficient in all ways, adding that God can reverse all the irreversible and solve all their problems if they obey Him.</div>

Welcoming the vice president, Professor Osinbajo to the convention on Saturday, Pastor Adeboye stated that he is not just a pastor in the mission, but that the VP is also one of the mission’s ushers, who minister during special occasions.</div>

"I don't know why he was not allowed to officiate during the convention. I hope he would do so during the congress in December. I want you to send our regards to President Muhammadu Buhari and we want him to join us next time," he added.</div>

Daddy Adeboye, as he is fondly called, used the opportunity to urge the worshippers to always pray for the Nigerian Army so that they could help defeat all the enemies of the country.</div>
