<b>ABUJA, NIGERIA - In a live television programme, <i>Good Morning Nigeria</i>, monitored on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), President Muhammadu Buhari said he was in possession of a comprehensive report of what Boko Haram members did when they were occupying some local governments in the North-East.</b></div>

He put the number of Internally Displaced Persons as a result of the activities of the sect at over 1.5million.</div>

I have a comprehensive report of what the Boko Haram members were able to do when they occupied more than 10 Local Governments in Borno State, seven Local Governments in Yobe and Adamawa states. </div>

The destruction they made on the infrastructure, especially schools, hostels, roads, blown up bridges and blown up markets. We have made a list of these and what it will cost to quickly rehabilitate them. </div>

Again, the Internally Displaced Persons, they are more than 1.5million mostly from those three states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. But they are in Kaduna, Abuja. What it takes to rehabilitate in terms of repair of towns that have been razed down by Boko Haram, like Bama, Baga and other towns and then getting the infrastructure – schools, hospitals, getting the teachers is a very expensive and a long list but is verifiable and quantifiable.</div>

The President said contrary to the belief of many, the US was willing to help Nigeria with weapons because they understood the nation’s problems.</div>

He recalled how the US came to the nation’s aid when it became obvious that the past administration did not want to hold elections as scheduled.</div>

Buhari said the past government reluctantly conceded defeat after the APC won the election.</div>

<b>ABUJA, NIGERIA - President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said he would not make compromised citizens and 'hostages' ministers.</b></div>

"We will try as much as possible to avoid appointing hostages; by this, I mean people who have been in the system but compromised their personal and professional integrity", Buhari said on Monday in a live programme, <i>Good Morning Nigeria</i>, on the <b>Nigerian Television Authority</b>.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said he needed decent, patriotic and hard-working technocrats as well as politicians to work with him in order to achieve his dream of repositioning the country.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said the worst thing that could happen to his administration was to get compromised persons to be in charge of institutions, adding that such people would be ineffective and unpatriotic.</div>

From what I have seen so far, we need very patriotic Nigerians (to be ministers); Nigerians that can work very hard with knowledgeable experience; committed Nigerians to be in charge of ministries. </div>

A lot of institutions in Nigeria are compromised, everybody for himself and God for all of us. It is most unfortunate. We have people, educated and experienced people, but everybody seems to be working for himself on how much they could get away with as soon as possible. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
We have to look for technocrats and politicians. We have to look out for decent people in this class to give them the responsibility of being in charge of ministries and important parastatals. </div>
</blockquote>

It is taking so much time (to appoint ministers) because a number of knowledgeable people have been compromised. They have been compromised by people who will like to depend on them to damage our economy and security; a lot of them have been compromised. </div>

The worst thing that I think can happen is to get a compromised person to be in charge of institutions. There is no way he could be efficient or patriotic. Somebody behind the scene will be manipulating him at the expense of the nation. </div>

This is what we are trying to avoid and I assure you that so much damage has been done to Nigeria. We cannot rush to give this responsibility to people that have unfortunately been compromised. </div>
</blockquote>

This is because there is no way you can effectively supervise, let's say 20 ministries, you have to give it to people you trust and you allow them to perform according to the Constitution of the country. If you appoint compromised people, then we will be back to square one and Nigeria will be the loser.</div>

So, the PDP is a party that presided over the liquidation of our nation, destroyed all our institutions, converted the Armed Forces commanders to use them as if they were political thugs, converted the Nigerian Television Authority to a party megaphone, destroyed the Department of State Services, went after opposition as if we were rabbits to be pursued into our holes, compromised even student unions and destroyed everything that you can think of, and elevated religion to a state affair. </div>

Under the party, Israel became a place you visit every week; they placed pastors against mallams, placed the North against the South, the East against the West, just to retain power; elevate Obas and Obis with dollars. </div>

You guys (journalists) were reporting dollars that were changing hands; when the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation was spending much more money than is available to the Federation Account. </div>

Briefing journalists in Abuja on Sunday, the spokesman for the group, Mr Nasir Zango-Daura, warned that members of his group would not tolerate any plans by the Speaker, Mr Yakubu Dogara, to prevent lawmakers from going into the House of Representatives chamber on Tuesday.</div>

Representative Zango-Daura also said the members of the faction were not aware of any concessions offered to them by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and his supporters.</div>

This is in contrast with the position of the other faction as the spokesman for the consolidation group, Abdulmumin Jibrin, while briefing journalists on Saturday said the two factions had embraced peace in the interest of the country.</div>

Mr Dogara on July 17 sent a proposed list of principal officers of the House to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a way of resolving the lingering leadership tussle.</div>

In a letter sent to the chairman of the party, Mr John Oyegun, the Speaker said the list, which took proper zoning into consideration, would best reflect the principle of federal character.</div>

The letter was written in response to Mr Oyegun’s letter to him, asking him to appoint the party's nominees into key positions, a development that has shown that the rancour between the leadership of the House and the party’s leadership over the choice of principal officers of the House had not been resolved.</div>

<b>LAGOS, NIGERIA - The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the PDP as a party cannot provide any worthwhile opposition to the APC-led Federal Government if its spokesman continues to issue convoluted and fustian statements just so that he can be in the news.</b></div>

"Today's statement is the most tortuous yet by the PDP and, honestly, sounds more like a compendium of beer parlour gossips and side talks than a serious criticism of a sitting government," the APC said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.</div>

"To be in opposition does not mean you have to constitute yourself to a nuisance by rushing to the press with all sorts of hot air statements. It is the quality, rather than the frequency, of your interventions that makes you relevant as an opposition in a democracy," the party said</div>

It said that in the light of the above, the APC will not dignify the latest in a series of confused statements by the PDP with any response. </div>

"We can only say that we have been justified, and indeed prescient, in our earlier offer to organize a crash course for Olisa Metuh so that he can more effectively perform his role as the spokesman of the main opposition party.</div>
