<b>It was indeed a sorry sight at Shoprite, Surulere, Sunday when <i>Daily Independent</i> sighted popular Nollywood actor, Ernest Asuzu.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Clad in a Manchester United jersey, blue jean pants and bathroom slippers, Azuzu who suffered stroke sometime ago and still limping was practically begging shoppers for money to eat!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He was a shadow of himself. One needed to take closer look at him to recognise he were the one. It was a pathetic sight to behold.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The eccentric actor confided in <i>Daily Independent</i> that the president of Actors Guild, Ibinabo Fiberesima and some others are aware of his condition but have refused to come to his aid.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>President-elect Muhammadu Buhari will be returning to Nigeria on Thursday morning after a six-day trip to the United Kingdom in the company of former President Shehu Shagari.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Buhari, who during his trip to the UK, met with British Prime Minister David Cameron, will arrive onboard a British Airways flight that is scheduled to land in Abuja around 4 am.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Shagari who <i>ThisDay</i> learnt, was in the UK on a private visit, was overthrown by Buhari in a military coup d’etat 32 years ago. Both men will be flying back to the country 24 hours before Buhari’s inauguration as Nigeria’s fifth democratically elected president.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Shagari, between October 1, 1979 and December 31, 1983, was Nigeria's first democratically elected president.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Buhari had departed the country last Friday in the company of two of his close aides, ostensibly to get away from the pressure that had been brought to bear on him by members of his party the All Progressives Congress (APC), state governors and varied interest groups who had laid siege on him in recent weeks for posts in his government.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He was said to have decided to get some rest ahead of the inauguration before plunging into the arduous task of running the country.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, his trip, which he embarked upon without the knowledge of the leadership of the APC, has caused disquiet among its chieftains, as it was the first clear signal that the president-elect is a man of independent thinking determined to do things his way.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Buhari in recent days has also made it known that the governors will have no say in determining the members of his cabinet, making it abundantly clear to them after they had submitted their ministerial lists, that he would have no say on who their commissioners should be.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I want to inform you that whether there is proper briefing or not, the reality will become reality on May 29,” Yayale said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"After they have taken over they will see where to ask questions and in what we call public accountability, nobody should be allowed to go without accounting for what is not there."</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Instead, I give my full endorsement to my friend and colleague, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who I believe has the requisite qualification to lead the 8th Assembly in the onerous task of addressing the important and pressing needs of the citizens of this nation.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, bowed out on Tuesday, handing over the leadership of the legislature to his Deputy, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, who will round off the tenure of the House on June 5.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tambuwal, who is the Governor-elect for Sokoto State, will be inaugurated on May 29 (Friday) as governor.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
His decision to transfer power to Ihedioha ahead of May 29 was to avoid a possible constitutional crisis of taking oath of office for two separate offices.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While he will be inaugurated as governor on May 29, his current tenure as a member of the House will terminate on June 6.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tambuwal, who spoke with journalists soon after Tuesday's sitting of the House, disclosed that the members agreed at an executive session that Ihedioha should preside over the affairs of the House till June 6.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“My stay here in the House would have effectively come to a end on May 29 after I would have been inaugurated as governor.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“We have to avoid any possible issues on this, since the constitution is silent on what happens when a sitting Speaker has to move to another office,” he added.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to him, the 1999 Constitution does not envisage a situation where the Speaker will leave one office for another, while the oath taken for the current one is subsisting.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, he noted that under the Standing Orders of the House, a Speaker Pro-tempore was required to be elected by members to run the House for any period the substantive Speaker would not be available.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But he explained that the extant case was different because he would not return to the House anymore.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“At our executive session, a member came up with an ingenious way of dealing with the matter on hand, which members accepted.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“He came up with the idea that the portion of the House rules in question should be suspended to enable the Deputy Speaker to continue to preside over the House instead of electing a new Speaker,” Tambiwal added.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tambuwal stated that the other alternative would have been to shut down the House before June 6, but said he was not in support of such a move.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I won't shut down the House. The House can sit tomorrow, Thursday and possibly the other sitting days of next week,” he said.</div>
