Violence has again broken out in Ojoku in the Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State over an alleged "escape" of a murder suspect from police custody.</div>

According to information reaching <b><i>tnn</i></b>, a youth leader and politician in the community who was among suspects arrested by the police in February over the political violence in which two people were killed was said to have escaped from police custody and was nowhere to be found. A reliable source informed <b><i>tnn</i></b> that they learned that Olatunji Usman has escaped from police custody and his whereabouts could not be known.</div>

Recall that Usman was among suspects arrested by the police after the political violence of February 20 in which two people said to be members of the APC were killed, many others injured and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed. </div>

Youths in the community, mostly suspected to be members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), embarked on what started like a peaceful protest to the palace of the traditional ruler of the community to register their displeasure over the unconfirmed reports that Usman had escaped from the police. Trouble, however, started when another group said to be mostly of members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Part (PDP) staged a counter protest to denounce the allege escape of Usman from the police.</div>

As the violent raged, Usman's wife, Shakirat was said to have taken to her heels when it became obvious that the anti-Usman group was heading to her house. As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Shakirat were unknown.</div>

Trouble makers and political thugs will henceforth have no hiding place in Kwara State. This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of Kwara State Command, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun during an on-the-spot assessment after the political crisis in Ojoku on Wednesday.</div>

It will be recalled that violent broke out in Ojoku on Wednesday during a political campaign rally during which two people were killed and dozens others injured with properties worth millions of naira destroyed. Trouble started when an armed group of youths attacked the campaign train of the APC senatorial candidate for Kwara South, Architect Lola Ashiru who was leading his campaign train to the palace of the traditional ruler of the community. During the attack by persons suspected to be supporters of the PDP senatorial candidate who is from Ojoku, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, two people were killed and many others injured including Ashiru who escaped death by the whiskers.</div>

Egbetokun said arrests have been made and a manhunt has been launched for other suspects who are on the run. Among those arrested, according to the police, was Kasim Omole who was said to be the arrow head of the attack. Others are Segun Ologunebi, Semiu Lawal, Olatunji Usman, Racheal Ogunde and Seun Kolapo. He said all suspects arrested would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.</div>

The police commissioner, however, assured residents of the community to go about with their normal legal businesses without fear as his men are on top of the situation.<br />

<b>Stop intimidating our members - PDP</b><br />

Meanwhile, the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has asked the police to stop intimidating its members by the spurious arrests being made. The party stated this in a release made available to newsmen in Ilorin following the arrest of some political thugs and troublemakers by the police over recent political violence in Ojoku in the Oyun Local Government Area of the State.</div>

According to the Kwara State publicity secretary of  the PDP, Mr. Tunde Ashaolu, the police are intimidating their members with the arrest as he said there have been a reduction in the turnout of the party members and supporters since the police began what he called "spurious arrests". Ashaolu said the arrest was spurious because most of his party members arrested had no hands in the violence at Ojoku. He specifically mentioned the name of Olatunji Usman who he said was not in Kwara State on the day of the incident as a case study.</div>

He appealed to the police to investigate those so far arrested and release those who are "innocent like Usman".</div>

Violence erupted yesterday in the Gberigbe area of Ikorodu community, Lagos when
some hoodlums numbering about 30 attacked the home of a suspected homosexual.

  According to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, the hoodlums who came on
  motorcycles and minivans were armed with dangerous weapons including locally
  made guns and machetes. The target of the attack, according to our source, was
  a man who lives in the community and was accused of being gay.

  The man whose identity could not be immediately verified as at the time of
  filing this report was said to have been caught having sex with another man of
  northern origin at a hotel (names withheld) in the neighboring street. Local
  security men were said to have raced to the hotel after being tipped off by an
  unnamed person with information on the forbidden act. Upon their arrest, the
  suspects were reportedly handed over to the police for further investigation
  and prosecution.

  However, information was said to have reached the youths in the community that
  the suspects have been released by the police after five days in detention.
  This, our source said, angered the local security men who arrested the
  suspects initially before they were handed over to the police. It was gathered
  that the aggrieved youths mobilized and headed to the residence of one of the
  suspects who resides in the community.

  "It was as if a war has broken out", said our source while narrating the sad
  event to our correspondent. "Everyone ran to safety because we didn't know
  what was happening. Gunshots were fired sporadically that at a point I thought
  it was cultists that have invaded our community. But when they started shouting the name of Alhaji<b> </b>Moshood<b> </b>(the suspected gay), my mind became relaxed"
  explained our source.

  suspect as they kept calling on him to surrender himself to them. They were
  reported to have accused the police of bias and said if the police could not

He also does not belong to the part-time or full-time teaching staff of the school. His name is not on the master list of workers of the university. I have checked the staff list using his full name and initials and could not come up with any such name as of Friday, August 6, 2015. </div></blockquote><blockquote class="tr_bq"><div style="text-align: justify;">I have also checked the list of office accommodation given to members of staff of the university and his name is not there. There is no office allocation attached to such a name. How he reportedly entered the said office where the crime took place is what we are looking into as an institution. </div></blockquote><blockquote class="tr_bq"><div style="text-align: justify;">While we sympathise with the alleged victim, we are ready to cooperate with every agency of government to get to the root of the matter as soon as possible. As an institution, we do not support any act of violence, not even against women. Therefore, we will help to ensure that the case comes to a logical conclusion.</div></blockquote><div style="text-align: justify;">Meanwhile, as the authorities disowned the lecturer, some students, in the Faculty of Business Administration, who craved anonymity for fear of victimisation, claimed that the suspect was a part-time lecturer of the accounting department of the university.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">One of them said: "I know him as a part-time lecturer in the accounting department.
