Jimi Agbaje, the Peoples Democratic Party Lagos State gubernatorial candidate, promised to break the jinx in the state by winning the governorship election to unseat the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 elections.
Agbaje said this while speaking with newsmen at the PDP two-day National Convention at the Abuja Eagle Square on Wednesday.
Agbaje lamented that the people of Lagos State were suffering in the hands of the APC-led government, which he said, was due to be changed.
Some 3,073 delegates from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT are to ratify the position of Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu as the PDP National Chairman and President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s sole presidential candidate.
The Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, Alhaji Haliru Bello, in a welcome address, declared that the exercise was meant to properly elect Mu’azu and three other members of the PDP National Working Committee.
The two other affected NWC members are the party’s National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, and its National Auditor, Adewale Adeyanju.
According to him, the convention will proceed to elect the party’s presidential candidate on Thursday.
Before the commencement of the ratification of PDP National chairman by delegates, the party leaders left the state box to felicitate with their delegates at their various stands.
President Jonathan’s movement to the Bayelsa State stand was thrilling and dramatic.
Accompanied by Muazu, President Jonathan was received at the stand by Governor Seriake Dickson of the state and other key party men in the state amidst songs of victory by Bayelsa State women.
Vice President Namadi Sambo also moved to his Kaduna stand to felicitate with the people of the state amidst song and cheers by delegates from the state, led by Governor Ramalan Yero.
At the Ebonyi State pavilion, Governor Martins Elechi was conspicuously absent but other PDP stalwarts, led by former Governor Sam Ewgu, the state Deputy Governor and others were present.
The Delta State stand was, however, very busy as Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan was seated in the midst of the state’s delegates alongside the gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Patrick Okowa.
The Cross River State delegation was led by Governor Liyel Imoke.
At the Adamawa State pavilion, Governor Bala Ngilari and the state PDP candidate for 2015 election, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, a former boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, were sighted seating closely.
General Buba Marwa was also seen with them as they moved round the convention venue.
