<b>IJEBU-ODE, NIGERIA - The late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade's role in the aftermath of the annulment of the 1993 presidential election is widely thought to have been less than noble. In <i>Awujale</i>, the recently released autobiography of Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Sijuade's connivance with those who annulled the election is brought into sharp focus.</b></div>

His position as the most revered traditional ruler in Yorubaland has not innoculated Oba Okunade Sijuade Olubuse II, the Ooni of Ife, from public scorn. Since 1993, much of the mystique around him has been eroded, largely through the carnage sparked by the controversial annulment of the 1993 presidential election, a.k.a June 12. Oba Sijuade came out of the annulment saga with grave reputational injuries from which he is yet to, and may not, recover, given the decision of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, to re-invite public attention to Sijuwade's role in one of the most grotesque episodes in Yoruba and Nigerian history.</div>

The medium chosen by Oba Adetona is <i><b>Awujale</b></i>, his recently released autobiography, in which the 11th chapter is dedicated to the annulment and the struggle for the de-annulment of the election won by the late Chief M.K.O Abiola.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
In <b><i>Awujale</i></b>, Adetona presents what can hardly be described as a worm's eye view. And in the book, the Ooni does not come out smelling like roses. As one of the most prominent Yoruba traditional rulers, Adetona was regularly invited to meetings with General Ibrahim Babangida, the military president that annulled the election and installed an Interim National Government, ING, headed by Chief Ernest Shonekan.</div>

As the widespread anger provoked by the annulment and Babangida's ING contraption raged, the former military president hoped to limit the damage to his reputation and that of his government, appealing to leaders from all the country's geo-political zones, especially the South-West, which felt wounded because of Abiola.</div>

For one of those meetings in Abuja, writes Adetona in <i><b>Awujale</b></i>, he arrived on a Thursday. The meeting was to hold the next day. While in his hotel room on the day of arrival, Adetona called the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, to say that there was a need for a meeting of Yoruba traditional rulers, where they could arrive at a common position to be presented at the next day's meeting with Babangida. Adeyemi agreed. Adetona then suggested that there was also a need to inform the Ooni and asked Adeyemi to accompany him to Sijuwade's room.</div>

Adeyemi, however, was not keen because of the rivalry, over superiority, between him and the Ooni. Eventually, he gave in. The late Oba Adeyinka Oyekan, Oba of Lagos, was also informed. He agreed that a meeting was required, but refused to accompany them to the Ooni's suite. However, he said he would support whatever position the meeting adopted.</div>

In the Ooni's suite, Adetona and Adeyemi met the Ife monarch dining with (now late) Alhaji Ado Bayero, Emir of Kano. Another Yoruba monarch, Oba Frederick Aroloye, the Owa of Idanre, writes Adetona, sat in a corner. When the two dining monarchs finished their meals, they went into the Ooni's room for a discussion, after which the Ooni came out to meet Adetona and Adeyemi.</div>

When we told the Ooni the purpose of our meeting, he said he had met the Northern Emirs. Their position was the same as ours. We asked how and he said that they wanted a fresh meeting to be called of the Council of State along with us. The Council of State, as enshrined in the constitution, has powers to advise the President, Adetona writes.</blockquote>

But what the Northern traditional rulers wanted was not exactly what the Yoruba monarchs wanted.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
Our mandate from the Yorubas was that the election had been concluded and our son was clearly the winner. So, all we wanted was that they should just simply release the results, the author explains.</blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Adetona then insisted that if a Council of State meeting was to be called, it should be for the purpose of ensuring that the election was de-annulled and the wish of the people respected. The Ooni agreed. But the Alaafin, writes Adetona, said there was no need for another meeting because the key members of the Council had already expressed their opposition to the annulment.</div>

When Adetona and the Alaafin left the Ooni, they went to discuss seating arrangements for the next day's meeting with the other Yoruba traditional rulers. Apparently suspicious that the Ooni could switch positions, the monarchs agreed that they would sit in a way that would ensure that the Ife monarch was hemmed between two of them "so as to forestall any wavering of position".</div>

The planned sitting arrangement was foiled. As the traditional rulers walked into the venue of the meeting, they found seats that bore each attendee's name. Babangida came in, explained the position of the government and sought reactions from his audience. The first came from Ibrahim Dasuki, then Sultan of Sokoto, who said very little apart from accusing the government of using traditional rulers to quell crises brought upon the nation by the government itself.</div>

He suggested that Babangida should invite members of the Council of State to join the traditional rulers in the discussion of the annulment. The Ooni was the next to speak and presented the position of the Yoruba obas: declaration of Abiola as the winner.</div>

It was something the meeting had not expected. "You could have heard a pin drop", writes Adetona. Next was Bayero, who expressed no opposition to what the Ooni said, but called for a fresh Council of State meeting. After him spoke the Oba of Benin, who condemned the annulment and rejected calls for a Council of State meeting.</div>

The natural rulers continued turning the heat on Babangida. According to Adetona, Gbong Gwon Jos, the late Chief Fom Bot, told the meeting that he could not return to his domain if Babangida did not to de-annul the election, as his subjects had demanded, and asked the former president to find accommodation for him in Abuja. A traditional ruler from the South-East, Adetona writes, was more dramatic, telling Babangida to quit as president. "Please go. Please go", he shouted.</div>

Then Babangida cut in, explaining that the decision to annul or de-annul was not solely his, but that of the military heirachy. He kept on calling on others to speak, but the obas observed that he was calling only people who sat to his right. The obas sat to his left. This drew a protest from the Alaafin, who Babangida was forced to ask to speak.</div>

The Oyo monarch insisted that another Council of State meeting was needless because the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, a member, was out of the country, while some other key members had expressed their disapproval of the annulment in the media. Other traditional rulers told Babangida that he should save the country from a huge crisis by respecting the wishes of Nigerians.</div>

Then, Babangida attempted one more throw of the dice. In a somewhat emotional tone, he told the meeting how close he and Abiola were. His government, he added, had paid Abiola hefty debts owed him by previous regimes. The sum, Babangida said, was about $600million. The scent of money scrambled a particular royal head - the Ooni's.</div>

When he heard this piece of information, the Ooni became angry and said something to the effect that if Babangida paid him (Ooni) that much, he would be living on the Island of Capri in Italy, Adetona writes.</blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sijuade then got up to go to the toilet. Adetona followed, spewing criticisms at his fellow Oba for going against what the Yoruba traditional rulers had agreed on. After the meeting, watched by Uche Chukwumerije, Information Secretary in the Interim National Government, the Ooni told journalists that he was in support of Babangida's position that a fresh election should be held and that the Obas should return to their domains and tell their people to prepare for the election.</div>

Adetona thought he had not heard Ooni right. </div>

To assure myself that what I heard was true, I invited one of the reporters, who was there when the Ooni was speaking to my room. This was a reporter from <i>The Nigerian Tribune</i>. Fortunately, the Alaafin was with me when the reporter played the tape for us. We were stunned, the Awujale writes.</blockquote>

From his hotel room, the Ooni called Adetona on the intercom and announced gleefully that he had told the world (through the media) of the Yoruba position. Adetona replied that he was not sure that Sijuwade's claim was correct. Adetona, accompanied by the Alaafin and the reporter, went over to Sijuwade's room. The Ooni repeated his claim that he presented the Yoruba position to the press.</div>

He was instantly put to shame, when the reporter was asked to play his tape, which contained the opposite of Ooni's claim. Adetona and the Alaafin then pressured Ooni into granting another interview, restating the position of the Yoruba. He did and the reporter was asked to take the interview to media houses for publication the next day. The interview was published by newspapers the next day, but Chukwumerije had caused the first interview to be used on the network news of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA.</div>

In the book, the Awujale was unsparing in his attack on former Nigerian leader, Olusegun Obasanjo. He described him as a Judas, "who would betray his people", who lacks credibility and squandered "the enormous goodwill", which he carried into office "with a performance that left him with a second term short of tangible achievements."</div>

Oba Adetona recalled an event on 24 July 2002, the late Abraham Adesanya's 80th birthday in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, when in a ride with Obasanjo to a makeshift helipad he told Obasanjo how disappointed he had become over Obasanjo's pussy-footing on the issue of federalism. "This was the dividing line for me in our relationship", Awujale recalled.</div>

Adesanya's birthday presented an opportunity for him to tell Obasanjo how he felt about him, when they rode together in a Mercedes Benz limousine, with former Ogun governor, Olusegun Osoba, as witness.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
It was going to be a short trip but I had something to say and so it had to be said quickly enough while the three of us shared some privacy. I said there was a time when I had trusted Obasanjo so much so that I could swear by his name, but that the trust was now gone. Obasanjo asked why. I answered that Obasanjo was no longer credible. </blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Oba recalled further in the book, that at another time when he visited Obasanjo in Aso Rock, Obasanjo revisited their earlier conversation during which he told the Awujale, accusatorily, that he painted him a Judas. Awujale reconfirmed the labeling according to his account.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
I told him that I not only remembered but still maintained that he was a Judas who would betray his people…I had no qualms about speaking plainly to him. In high office, people who surround leaders tend to skirt around the truth, Awujale wrote.</blockquote>

The Awujale was clearly not impressed by Obasanjo's tenure as Nigeria's leader. </div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
Eight years in office was ample time to put electricity on a very strong footing. Eight years was enough to put down a strong foot against corruption and make a clear difference. Eight years was adequate for orderliness and the rule of law to triumph in every facet of our society. These were the basis upon which I gave my support for the office, he submitted.</blockquote>

Though, the passage of Oba Sijuwade has not been officially announced, princes from three of the four ruling houses of Ile-Ife have started moves to ensure they emerge as the successor to the throne. </div>

The four ruling houses in Ile-Ife are Lafogido, Giesi, Ogbooru and Osinkola.</div>

While Oba Okunade Sijuwade is from the Ogbooru ruling house, his predecessor, Oba Adesoji Aderemi, was from Giesi ruling house.</div>

However, members of the Aderemi Royal Family of Giesi Dynasty, this weekend began what could be termed political moves to emerge the next Ooni with visit to Mama HID Awolowo, the matriarch of the Awolowo family and the Yeye Oba of Ife. An unmentioned contender for the stool, Barrister Adedamola Aderemi is an inlaw to the Awolowos.</div>

Mama Awolowo's daughter, Chief Mrs Tola Oyeniyi is the mother-in-law to Prince Aderemi.</div>

Apart from their visit to Ikenne, Prince Aderemi also paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode. Observers see the visit to Ambode as a means of getting access to his political god-father, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of APC which is the ruling party in the State of Osun. In fact, the Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is a well-known "disciple" of Tinubu.</div>

<b>LAGOS, NIGERIA - Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Sunday disowned the randy lecturer, Dr. Akin Baruwa, who reportedly <a href="http://nigerianewsroom.blogspot.com/2015/08/read-how-and-why-unilag-lecturer-raped.html">raped an 18-year-old admission seeker</a>.</b></div>

Baruwa allegedly raped the young girl (name withheld), who is seeking admission to the university, in his office on July 23, 2015.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The lecturer, currently in detention at the Kirikiri Prison, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on Thursday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
But speaking with <b><a href="http://www.punchng.com/news/unilag-disowns-lecturer-who-raped-admission-seeker/">The PUNCH</a></b> correspondent on Sunday, the Head, Information Unit of the university, Mr. Olagoke Oke, said Baruwa was not an employee of the institution.</div>

According to him, no such name exists on the university’s employee list whether teaching or non-teaching.</div>

The said Dr. Baruwa is a not a member of staff of the university, whether teaching or non-teaching. He also does not belong to the part-time or full-time teaching staff of the school. His name is not on the master list of workers of the university. I have checked the staff list using his full name and initials and could not come up with any such name as of Friday, August 6, 2015. </div>

I have also checked the list of office accommodation given to members of staff of the university and his name is not there. There is no office allocation attached to such a name. How he reportedly entered the said office where the crime took place is what we are looking into as an institution. </div>

While we sympathise with the alleged victim, we are ready to cooperate with every agency of government to get to the root of the matter as soon as possible. As an institution, we do not support any act of violence, not even against women. Therefore, we will help to ensure that the case comes to a logical conclusion.</div>

Meanwhile, as the authorities disowned the lecturer, some students, in the Faculty of Business Administration, who craved anonymity for fear of victimisation, claimed that the suspect was a part-time lecturer of the accounting department of the university.</div>

One of them said: "I know him as a part-time lecturer in the accounting department. I wonder what the university wants to achieve now by trying to disown him."</div>

<b>ILE-IFE, NIGERIA - Since the remains of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, arrived the palace, last Sunday, various rites of passage and rituals have been performed as part of the complex traditional processes a deity of Ooni's standing must pass through, sources close to the palace said yesterday.</b></div>

<i>The Guardian</i> learnt that the monarch is one of 201 deities in Ife kingdom, and "since deities don't die", the Ooni, in the worldview of traditionalists, is alive until all rites and rituals pertaining to his transition are completed.</div>

Sources said the rites of passage have reached advanced stage, while various traditional chiefs and priests are still busy with activities to enhance his seamless transition.</div>

They noted that the rites of passage for the Ooni are not for public consumption, save initiates and members of various deities. </div>

If an ordinary person tells you that he knows what is going on in respect of the Ooni, who is a deity, tell that person he is a liar. </blockquote>

By tradition, you are not expected to know because you are an <i>'ogberi'</i> (uninitiated) and because of the medium you work for, don’t join others in feeding the public what you don’t know and what is untrue. </blockquote>

I also need to inform you that there are different stages and processes in respect of rites and rituals to be performed concerning his transition. </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
You people must wait until words of wisdom come from the palace on the status of the Ooni. We are the custodian of culture and tradition. If we are not in a hurry over what should be done, why must you be in a hurry about an event you know little or nothing about?</blockquote>

Another source said Ooni's body has been taken to <i>Ile Ase</i> (chamber of authority) where it is believed a transited Ooni received all the spiritual powers he used in asserting authority during his lifetime.</div>

The house is said to be unique in the sense that all authorities acquired from gods and godesses must be re-claimed from the 'living' monarch before he is laid to rest. A public pronouncement on the monarch might be made on or before Wednesday.</div>

The governor disclosed that the last SMS he received from Oba Sijuwade was touching and promised to share its content with people of the state at a future date.</div>

<b>IBADAN, NIGERIA - Tension is reportedly mounting in the four states under the control of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West over the refusal of the governors to put cabinets in place more than two months after their inauguration.</b></div>

The three states of Lagos, Oyo and Ogun have been operating administrative activities with skeletal appointive personnel and the civil service, 69 days after the governors' assumption of office, while Osun State has been without a cabinet for about nine months, after the re-election of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.</div>

Although originally a citizen of a neighbouring state, the said projected ministerial nominee once held a political appointment in the state where he is reportedly being packaged for an appointment at the centre.</div>

However, Ife traditional chiefs still maintain that the Ooni still lives until the public hears contrary information about the monarch from them.</div>

Yesterday, the chiefs still held another round of long meeting at the outer part of the courtyard. Details of the meeting were not immediately known but sources said the discussion might not be unconnected with necessary 'rites of passage of the departed' monarch before news about his demise is broken to the public.</div>

The Guardian learnt that the evacuation of the personal property of members of the Royal Family from the palace is part of activities signposting that something serious might have happened to the monarch. </div>

The RTC, which comprises of all traditional chiefs and title holders in Ile-Ife said Oba Sijuade is not only in sound state of health but added that the royal father was preparing for son's wedding holding next week Sunday in Lagos.</div>

Also speaking, secretary Royal Traditional Council of Ife, the <i>Ladin of Ife</i>, High Chief Adetoye Odewole, said Ooni is hale and hearty and even spoke to the chiefs on phone few hours earlier.</div>

But Osun State House of Assembly has expressed its sympathy to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, State Council of Traditional rulers and chiefs, the good people of ancient city of Ile-Ife and the immediate and extended families of the late Oba Okunade Sijwade Olubuse, the Ooni of Ife as the great King joined his ancestors.</div>

In a statement issued by the Speaker's spokesman, Mr. Goke Butika, the parliament in a condolence message by the Speaker, Mr Najeem Salaam "expressed his regret and shock over the transition of the natural ruler to the silent land of his forebear, saying the engine room of royalty and the custody of Yoruba cosmology has just been temporarily grounded by the clog of death".</div>

Salaam then "celebrated the life and time of the great king, Oba Sijuwade, attesting that the monarch exuded unique royalty almost equivalent of imperial culture that could not be rivaled while he called the shot on the revered stool of his fathers.</div>

He slumped on Thursday and was rushed to Ibadan airport from where he was flown to Lagos in an air ambulance en route to England for treatment. He became stable by Saturday. It is sad that he relapsed and passed on."</div>

The flamboyant traditional ruler was crowned king on December 6, 1980 in a colourful ceremony attended by prominent traditional rulers like the Emir of Kano, Oba of Benin, Amayanabo of Opobo and the Olu of Warri as well as the representatives of the Queen of England.</div>

Sijuwade was born to the Ogboru ruling house. The handsome king was a grandson of the Ooni Sijuwade Adelekan Olubuse I. He studied at the Abeokuta Grammar School and Oduduwa College in Ile-Ife.</div>

He worked for three years in his father's business and later did a two-year stint with the <i>Nigerian Tribune,</i> before attending the Northampton College in the United Kingdom to study Business Management.</div>

At the young age of 30, he became a manager in Leventis, a Greek-Nigerian conglomerate. In 1963, he became the Sales Director of the state-owned National Motors in Lagos. After spotting a business opportunity during a 1964 visit to the Soviet Union, he formed a company to distribute Soviet-built vehicles and equipment in Nigeria. This later became the nucleus of his widespread business empire. He also invested in real estate in his home town of Ile-Ife. By the time Sijuwade was crowned Ooni in 1980 he had become a wealthy man, whose fame and connection was global.</div>

When Sijuwade became the Ooni, he inherited an ongoing dispute over supremacy between the obas of Yorubaland. In 1967 the crisis had been resolved when the late Yoruba sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was chosen as the leader of the Yoruba. In 1976, the Governor of Oyo State, General David Jemibewon, had decreed that the Ooni of Ife would be the permanent chairman of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs. Other Obas led by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, said the position should rotate. The dispute calmed down when Osun State was carved out of Oyo State in August 1991, but still persisted. In January 2009, Sijuwade was quoted as saying that Oba Adeyemi was ruling a dead empire (the Oyo Empire, which collapsed in 1793). Adeyemi responded by citing "absurdities" in Sijuwade's statements and saying the Ooni "is not in tune with his own history".</div>

Azeez reportedly removed the deceased's intestine and kidney after killing him. He was said to have lured the deceased to the back of an Anglican Primary School, in the morning and committed the murder there, <i><b>Daily Trust </b></i>reports.</div>

<b>The father of the multiple twins who fled from his home and expectant wife has shown up - three months after.</b></div>

Mr. Emeka Uche, after days of persuasion by his wife, Ruth, yesterday returned to a new home, a yet-to-be-painted mini-flat, in Ogun State.</div>

The Uches used to stay in Agege on the outskirts of Lagos. Mrs. Uche, a teacher, had two sets of twins. Another set came in February.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Just as this reporter was about to leave her apartment, she came face to face with a light complexioned man wearing an Arsenal jersey, a pair of jeans and slippers, holding two polythene bags.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
He looked confused, uttered no word, save for the exchange of pleasantries and made to move away when Hope, the Uches' former neighbour, saw him.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Papa ejima (father of twins), where are you coming from? So you are still alive? Please come inside and sit down," she exclaimed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Upon hearing 'Papa ejima', Mrs Uche rushed to the door. She didn't run into his arms to hug or kiss him, but stood and watched him for some minutes after offering him one of the plastic seats in the living room.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
But he did not sit down, rather, he went straight for his newborn babies. He was seeing the three months olds for the first time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Uche held both on each arm, smiling and then collapsed into the blue chair, admiring them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Still looking at the babies, he asked: "Where are my other children? How are you people?"</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hope told Uche that the other children were at her aunt's house not too far from the neighbourhood.</div>

After about seven minutes when Mrs. Uche seemed to have regained her composure, she entered the kitchen, brought a sachet water in a silver steel plate and offered it to her husband who refused to collect it.</div>

After much persuasion from all the women in the room, Uche finally collected the water and from the way he gulped it, it was obvious he was very thirsty.</div>

As Mrs. Uche sat down on one of the children's plastic chairs, she asked her husband if he was back for good.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"God I thank you for answering my prayers. So, you are here. You look emaciated. You have lost so much weight. I hope you have come back for good. Please, do not leave us again," she told Uche, who did not reply.</div>

Having allowed him play with his babies and relaxed for about 20 minutes, this reporter, reminded Uche of their several telephone discussions.</div>

He said: </div>

Like I told you on phone, it was not easy for me. I contemplated suicide on several occasions. I cannot believe I am here, holding my kids for the first time since they were born three months ago. </div>

When I left, I initially went to the village where I spent a month. After that, I came back to Lagos but stayed with my friend around Oko-Oba in Agege. I still live with him. </div>

I know that I was not far from them, but I just did not want to return without a better solution on how to cater for my home. I was ashamed too to come back to that house to see them after I'd abandoned them and run away. </div>

But after our discussions and my wife told me that they had moved, I went to our old house and asked one of the neighbors who had been here for direction so that I could come and see them.</div>

Finding the Uches</div>

The road to the Uches' new home was anything but smooth. For a journey that began shortly after mid-day, it took this reporter about two hours to get to the community and another 1 hour 30 mintues more, wandering around the locality until the parties eventually met at a bus stop.</div>

After the exchange of pleasantries, an excited Mrs. Uche who said she secured a shop and would soon start trading in foodstuff, took this reporter to see her new home.</div>

Situated in a developing area, the newly built bungalow has three flats.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although not painted yet, the house is in a relatively peaceful community. Mrs. Uche seems to have made some friends already.</div>

Inside her apartment, the parlour and toilet are neatly tiled. The bedroom and kitchen are cemented.</div>

The apartment is neat, though lacking in basic furniture, which prompted the arrangement of their unpacked luggage-clothes, foodstuff and kitchen utensils- on the floor in the bedroom and kitchen.</div>

There was relative quiet, but for the tick of the wall clock and occasional cry of her baby. The new residence is a far improvement on the old one.</div>

Noting that she was eternally grateful to the Lagos State Government and all those who have changed her story, Mrs. Uche said she was yet to consider the school which her children would attend.</div>

Would I have ever lived in this kind of house with my family and I having a toilet and kitchen to ourselves? I moved in here on Sunday and I am so happy and grateful.</div>

Aunty, come and see our bedroom; have you seen the toilet? See our kitchen. See me now! I have a room and parlour self-contained. What more can I want, except for my husband to come and enjoy this good life with me?</div>

People who used to laugh at us for not having food to eat can now see how God works. Even my mother-in-law who has not called me for so long now calls me. I am just so thankful to God because he did not allow me and my children die in shame.</div>

I have promised God that I will do my best to grow my business. I want to grow and be able to help women with similar case as mine. I want to be able to impact their lives in future as my life was touched and changed.</div>

<b>OYO, NIGERIA - Wonders, the elders say, shall never end. These images are of a wedding ceremony held last weekend in the ancient town of Oyo, Oyo State between a young lady and a "portrait" photo of the groom.</b></div>

<b>TNN</b> reliably gathered that the supposed groom lives somewhere outside Nigeria. And, obviously because of irregular documentations (if any), the groom could not leave his country of abode to attend his wedding in Nigeria.</div>

According to sources present at the ceremony, the officiating minister had to put a call through to the groom when it was time for him to say his wedding vows. Methinks a video technology could have been deployed to show the live images of the groom where he was during the ceremony.</div>

Asked why the marriage was conducted in such a manner, another source who also witnessed the ceremony said the bride was going to join her groom where he lives as she had obtained her visa to embark on the journey. When further asked the exact country where the groom lives, our source said she was not sure but quickly added: "her (the bride's) mother said the husband sent all papers to her and she will be traveling after the wedding".</div>
