<b>Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, is among several Nigerians who have strong words for Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, over his reported death threat against the Igbos if they do not vote for Lagos All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Saturday.</b><br />
<br />
These Nigerians expressed their outrage against the Oba’s tirade in their online posts.<br />
<br />
Ezekwesili, the Coordinator of BringBackOurGirl campaign, expressed shock at the utterance of the monarch, who reportedly threatened the leaders of the Igbos, whom he addressed in his palace on Saturday, with death if they refused to support efforts to vote Ambode as Lagos State governor on April 11.<br />
<br />
She said, “It was shocking to hear applause by the audience at the meeting where Oba of Lagos made those statements. Kai, citizens, you’re better than this!<br />
<br />
Gboyega Ajibade, in his reaction, described the Oba’s statement as unfortunate, calling for Akiolu’s immediate suspension.<br />
<br />
Ajibade stated, “This is quite unfortunate. The Ibos can vote according to what their conscience desire. Is this a threat or blackmail? Coming from an Oba of his caliber? Money has destroyed his personality and as the saying goes, ‘He who the Gods want to destroy, they first make mad’.<br />
<br />
“We voted out impunity. Is this what we should be expecting, a power drunk Oba? What role is he playing? Trying to burn down Lagos and get the Yorubas in the East killed? He needs to be suspended immediately.<br />
<br />
“I am a Yoruba and I completely dissociate myself from this mad rant. If Ambode wants the Ibos vote, he should canvass for it.”<br />
<br />
Omolaja Nofiu, who identified himself as a Yoruba man, condemned the monarch’s style of “forcing people against their consciences, legal rights and freedom.”<br />
<br />
He described such style as Satanic.<br />
<br />
He added, “It is time that individuals must take a stand to allow light to triumph over darkness, truth over continuous lies, genuine democracy over illegal and ungodly domination and god-fatherism in Lagos and by extension, Nigeria.<br />
<br />
“Nobody has the legal right to determine the destiny of people by coercing them to vote against their consciences. It is illegal, evil and Satanic. This is a dangerous precedence that only bond-slaves and those who have no God, will collude with.<br />
<br />
“(President Goodluck) Jonathan too must prove to the world that the genuine safety of Nigerians is important to him than his personal interest, by providing effective police security at the polls (and military on the streets). That must be continuous, otherwise another type of Boko-Area-Boys may emerge in Lagos soon against non-indigenes.<br />

One Uwawaren DazzlingSmile contended that Akiolu’s outburst was hypocritical, telling the monarch to remember that he was only entitled to one vote.<br />

He said, “How can you support a man who wants to impose his choice on others in a democracy. Oba sir, you are entitled to only one vote. Use it to vote for Ambode for all I care; it is one man one vote.<br />
<br />
“Lagos does not belong to you. God Almighty is the owner of Lagos. He can depose you or take your life, if it pleases him. Remember Nebuchadnezzar, Saddam (Hussein), (Sani) Abacha, etc. God is watching!”<br />
<br />
D Truth described the reported comments of the Oba as unbelievable.<br />
<br />
“I can’t believe what I’m hearing, just unbelievable; how dare him say such? Thought Tinubu says this man has integrity. Now I understand what he meant,” he added.<br />
<br />
Prisoner of Conscience believed the royal father goofed to have made such an outburst.<br />
<br />
It says, “I think the Oba really erred to have made such uncompromising statements which he needs to formally address. But on the other hand, going to have a closed door meeting with an Oba and going there with a voice recorder is an insult on the Crown. <b>Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has dismissed what he said was a purported impeachment notice posted online by the All Progressives Congress lawmakers in the State House of Assembly, saying he was yet to be served any impeachment notice.</b><br />
<br />
Mr. Fayose, stated this while speaking during a TV programme, “Meet Your Governor”, aired on the State Television, EKTV, Ekiti Radio, Progress FM and NTA, Ado Ekiti on Monday.<br />
<br />
Nineteen All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers in the state had while issued a notice of impeachment to the governor, giving him 7 days to respond to the allegations of gross misconduct against him and his deputy.<br />
<br />
Mr. Fayose described those plotting his impeachment as the same enemies of Ekiti State that plotted his exit from office in 2006.<br />
<br />
“Nobody served me any impeachment notice. I only saw the notice online like every other person,” he said.<br />
<br />
The governor, who described himself as an Israeli said; “I’m like Israel that is in the midst of enemies but will always prevail. Whoever wants to remove me will first have to impeach God.”<br />
<br />
He said the APC members were trying to get at him because he wholeheartedly supported President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid.<br />
<br />
“They are doing all these just to get at me because of my support for President Jonathan and I have no regret for supporting the president.<br />
<br />
“Let me say it again, I have not been served any impeachment notice. The House of Assembly is also on recess and Dr Adewale Omirin is not the speaker of the State House of Assembly.<br />
<br />
“Omirin is in court, challenging his impeachment and he can’t be challenging his impeachment in court and at the same time laying claim to being Speaker,” he said.<br />
<br />
While urging the APC to accept defeat as done by President Jonathan and the PDP, Mr. Fayose said, “By the power of God, they lost 16 – 0 on June 21, 2014, they lost 16 – 0 again on March 28, they will lose 26 – 0 on Saturday, April 11,” he said.<br />

<b>Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the current Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, says President Goodluck Jonathan lost because of the mood of voters which was determined by the economic conditions and level of poverty across the country.</b><br />
<br />
Sanusi, who is now known as Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, said this during an interview with the <b><a href="http://www.punchng.com/news/why-jonathan-lost-to-buhari-sanusi/">PUNCH</a></b> correspondent on Saturday.<br />
<br />
He said the voting showed that areas which had a high rate of poverty felt neglected by the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government over the years.<br />
<br />
Sanusi said the presidential poll results showed that the figures of the PDP in presidential elections from 1999 had continued to dwindle significantly.<br />
<br />
The monarch said the PDP got fewer votes in 2007, less in 2011 and then fewer votes in 2015 causing the ruling party to finally lose to the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress.<br />
<br />
He said, “I think in 2011, it was very clear that Jonathan had lost many states in the North that had previously been won by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. And it was clear that there was a general sense by people of the Federal Government not investing in the areas where there is a high level of poverty.<br />
<br />
“I believe more and more of those states began to feel that sense of not feeling the federal presence and not feeling the impact of democracy in their pockets and I think it is extremely important for people to connect with the government and when you have such conditions after 16 years of democracy, it was natural that people would want to have a change and I think this is basically what has happened.<br />
<br />
“I don’t think it is something about an individual, I think it is something that has been going on for a number of years and you could see the states won by the PDP in 1999 and what they won in 2003, what they won in 2007, 2011 and you would begin to see the changes in the way Nigerians were responding so it was a matter of time.”<br />
<br />
Sanusi, however, commended Jonathan, the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari; and the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct and atmosphere of the election.<br />
<br />
He said change of leadership was good for democracy as it encouraged healthy competition. He said it was the trend in democracies across the world.<br />
<br />
“I think it is good for the country that you have different parties winning and if the APC performs, they get another term and if they don’t, they get voted out after four years and it is extremely important that this happens so let us not see it in terms of somebody losing,” he said.<br />
<br />
Sanusi also urged Buhari not to focus solely on corruption but on other areas that required urgent government attention such as education, decaying infrastructure, diversifying the economy and fixing power.<br />

<b>Igbos living in Lagos were told on Sunday to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, or else they will die in the lagoon.</b><br />
<br />
A visibly angry Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, in an unconcealed threat, stated that he was not ready to beg the Igbos, but if they repeated what they did on March 28 when they voted for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan, then they should be ready for the consequences.<br />
<br />
The governorship elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday, and it is believed that Igbo residents in Lagos will vote for the PDP candidate, Jimi Agbaje, just like they did during the presidential and National Assembly elections that led to the victory of PDP candidates of Igbo origin and from Delta State in three federal constituencies in Lagos.<br />
<br />
Speaking at a meeting with Igbo leaders in the state, according to an online news medium, Freedom Online, the first class monarch, who failed to recognise the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos, said: “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode who I picked, that is your end. If it doesn’t happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me.<br />
<br />
“Jonathan is my son and I speak to him everyday. By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future.<br />
<br />
“On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water.<br />
<br />
“I’m not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi (Agbaje) is my blood relation and I told him that he cannot be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere, don’t do it here.<br />

“If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous for you. If you go against my wish, you will perish in the water.”<br />

The monarch said anybody against Ambode did not wish the state well, adding, “I am for the progress, growth and development of Lagos. Ambode is highly cerebral, he’s a symbol and he is going to deliver the message which I, the Oba of Lagos, have said. And he will govern the state for another eight years.<br />
<br />
“He is going on a mission and God will give him the wisdom and knowledge to fulfill that mission. Almost a year ago, I declared that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos and it will not change.<br />
<br />
“From time immemorial, the previous occupiers of this house will say what they wanted after consultations with other people. And this hasn’t changed and it will not change at this time,” he said.<br />
<br />
In a veiled reference to one of Jonathan’s predecessors, Akiolu stated that the crisis Nigeria was facing was not caused by the Jonathan administration but by another person he refused to name.<br />
<br />
Continuing with his tirade, he said: “If not for the appeal from Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) and my highly respected maternal father, the Awujale of Ijebu-Ode, all what is happening today is not the cause of the present government. The man who caused everything knows himself.”<br />

In his response, the Eze-Ndigbo of Amuwo-Oriade, Dr. Gordian Dimojiaku, promised Akiolu that the Igbos in the state would support Ambode.<br />

“The mistake of last Saturday was caused by everybody, not only the Igbos. It is not only the Igbos that were responsible for the votes. But we have learnt our lesson. Saturday’s election is going to be a different thing and Ambode is going to win.<br />
<br />
“Everybody knows that when you fail the first time, you cannot afford to fail again. We are going to tell our people that Ezes from the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas are here and that we have sworn with the Oba that we are going to make sure that Ambode wins next Saturday’s election,” he said.<br />
