A combination of poverty and joblessness has led to the death of a 25-year-old youth, Kingsley Ughala, who was shot dead while scrambling to have a share of some amount of money dished out by a politician after rally by the All Progressive Party, APC, in Lagos State.

The ugly incident which happened when the party's campaign train went to Gbagada area of the state, according to information, led to serious stampede and fighting by area boys after the money was given out and the boys were said to have stormed the campaign office of the APC governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, for what they termed their 'settlement'.

The deceased said to be an indigene of Imo State, was however shot dead in the ensuing scuffle that followed when a particular group wanted to have a lion share of the money to the chagrin of others who wanted an equal share.

An eyewitness said the young man who was among the horde of jobless Nigerian youths who see political campaigns as an avenue of making money, was shot at around 4pm on the day of the incident.

"It happened around the APC campaign office in Gbagada. After they finished their rally for the day, some group of boys returned to the campaign office for settlement.

"They were given some money to share among themselves. A fight broke out when one of the groups wanted to go away with the money.

"The struggle was intense, and at a point, one of the groups brought out a gun and shot the guy dead."
