MERU, KENYA - A woman was Wednesday afternoon flogged and stripped naked by angry residents of Kooje village in Meru, Kenya for allegedly stealing underwears from a cloth line in Maune Estate.
Betty Kanario was reported by a pre-school boy who saw her unhung the innerwears belonging to their neighbor and started crying hence attracting his mother's attention who thought the boy had fallen from the balcony only to realize he had seen a stranger in the apartment.
She tried to escape with the paper bag she had stuffed the pants after the boy's mother started shouting 'mwizi mwizi'.
"Unfortunately, she tripped and fell," added the boy's mom.
Residents who responded to the distress call captured her, beating and tearing her clothes "to teach her a lesson".
Luckily, she was rescued by a woman roasting yams outside the apartment who gave her a big yellow polythene bag to cover her nudity, Kenya Central reports.
