ABUJA, NIGERIA - Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said the ruling All Progressives Congress risks losing its internal united and cohesion after winning elections in March.
Buhari urged the APC "to work hard to quickly resolve internal differences in the party and avoid disappointing Nigerians," Femi Adesina, a presidential spokesman, said in an e-mailed statement on Friday.
"The president affirmed his belief in the supremacy of the APC’s Change Pact with Nigerians over the personal ambitions of its members."
Buhari is facing discord among his party after the election of Bukola Saraki as chief of Nigeria’s Senate last month. Saraki, an APC senator who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, drew on support from his former PDP colleagues to win the Senate leadership, riding over the APC’s preferred choice.
