Why I Won't Move Into The ₦15 Billion New Govt. House - Lalong

Barrister Simon Bako Lalong is governor-elect of Plateau State. In this interview, Lalong now fondly called the 'miracle governor' speaks on his priorities for the people of Plateau State and other issues.

Daily Trust asked him:

You have consistently said you will not occupy the newly constructed Government House in Little Rayfield, does that mean you will let the building go to waste despite the billions of naira spent on it?

And the 'miracle governor' replied: 

The new government house is the property of Plateau State and it is also the property of Plateau people. 

Secondly, the house is not completed so how do I start rushing to a place that has not been completed. Another thing is that the amount used in building that government house is very ridiculous and so we put it as a matter for consideration. 

I cannot go into that house until those issues are settled by Plateau people. 

Thirdly, the priority of the incoming government is how to settle the plight of the civil servants. Civil servants were wallowing in lack of payment of salaries and then all of a sudden I was told that an amount of close to ₦15billion was used to construct a new government house, we are not coming for luxury, we are coming to serve the people so first of all when you are serving you must be ready to make sacrifice not luxury of a new government house. 

It is not a priority to me, we will stay anywhere, and we will review the contract and make recommendations as to whether we will occupy the new government house or not. But I want to assure you that it will not be a waste, even if we don’t occupy it we will put it to use.
