A leader of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a member of the Board of Trustees, Chief Bode George, says the statement of the spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the delay in compilation of the handover note by the current administration was immature and absolutely unnecessary.
The Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, of the PDP will hand over to the President-elect and a member of the APC, General Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, but the APC has expressed fears that the delay in the compilation of the handover note which they said they expected to receive days before the handover date was a ploy to make things difficult for the incoming administration.
The APC spokesman, Lai Mohammed, had said: “It is either the outgoing Federal Executive Council has something to hide or is bent on sabotaging the incoming government. By its dillydallying on the date for the readiness of the handover notes from the administration's posturing that it is ready to hand over has been exposed as nothing but a smokescreen”.
Giving his opinion about the statement of the APC, Chief George told CHANNELS TV that the current administration of the PDP needed time to put together all necessary information that would aid the incoming administration get all it needed.
“This nation is going through a transition and there should be nothing under the table.
“Lai Mohammed’s statement was immature and absolutely unnecessary. I am really very shocked that he will make that kind of statement.
“Does he want to get a rushed job. Government is a very potently established institution and if you look at it, with all the things he (President Jonahtan) has done in the last four years, with the development in infrastructure, agriculture, education, finance, industry. Twenty-four hours in politics is a long time,” he said.
The PDP leader further said that the APC was getting worried over the handover note because “they never believed they will win the election”.
“Their party has not gotten a taproot. It is a conglomeration of so many other parties.
“The documentation will be there and if there is need for further explanation, the people handing over are Nigerians and they would be available to answer questions that they may raise.
“The APC has never had this kind of experience.
“We want a full fleshed report by the administration on behalf of the PDP to handover an administration thoroughly examined to the APC,” Mr George said.
On the outcome of the Presidential election, the PDP chieftain said the election was flawed, scoring the electoral body 40 per cent.
He cited issues of poor distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards, as the major flaw and a contributing factor to the PDP’s defeat.
