Less than one month to the February 14 presidential election, panic has enveloped the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following the the dwindling fortunes of the party across the federation.
According to a reliable source, the leaders of the party have become worrisome over the gale of defection rocking the party across the country as well as the "lacklustre response the party has been getting since the beginning of the ongoing presidential campaign of President Goodluck Jonathan."
To review the development, the party leaders held a closed door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Legacy House in Abuja on Sunday.
The meeting which was described as a "family affair", it was learnt examined the circumstances that led to the defection of some members of the party in Plateau State, led by a former Deputy Governor, Mrs. Pauline Tallen and many others to the APC.
It was also learnt that the President and the party leaders were not comfortable with the support the opposition, All Progressives Congress was getting across the country, especially from those leaving the ruling party.
A source at the meeting said the party is jittery over what may become the fate of its presidential aspirant in the 2015 election judging from the support the opposition has received from its campaign in the south.
"You know that we have usually taken each presidential election as a done deal since 1999," the source said.
He added that, "But now, things have changed. With what we have seen so far from the tours of the southern part of country, we need to work harder to win."
