The Nigerian Army has announced the redeployment of General I. Ibrahim, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Maiduguri.

Reports also confirmed the deployment of some newly acquired attack helicopters by the military to engage the Boko Haram militants in their hide outs in the North East.

Though details of the GOC’s redeployment are still sketchy some sources have attributed it to the recent visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Maiduguri and the resolve to remove every impediment to winning the war against Boko Haram.

General Ibrahim who has spent only nine months in the position replaced Major-General Ahmadu Mohammed who was also removed May 15, 2014 after an insurrection by military officers deployed from the Division to fight the sect.

Recall that the president on Thursday undertook a surprise visit to Maiduguri on the occasion of Nigeria’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day to meet with officers and men of the Armed Forces currently in the frontline of the war against terrorism and insurgency in the country.

There he assured the troops that the Federal Government will continue to do everything possible to ensure that they get the weapons, equipment, welfare and logistics support they require to completely rout the insurgents and restore full security and normalcy to affected parts of the country.
