Governor Rochas Okorocah Campaign Organisation has accused the People Democratic Party [PDP] of not telling the people of why they want power in Imo state and that the PDP stalwart in the state are deceiving President Goodluck Jonathan.
Vanguard reports that the group in a statement signed by Sam Onwuemeodo Commander-in charge of Media, Research and Strategy, Rochas Campaign Organisation said that:
"In line with our resolve to always remain civil and show good examples for other political parties and their candidates to follow, we want to crave the indulgence of Nigerians of goodwill, especially the patriotic citizens of Imo State to react to the latest lies of the Imo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, and its governorship candidate, Hon Emeka Ihedioha.
"It is disturbing to note that few weeks to the elections, the Imo PDP and its gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Ihedioha have never cared to tell Imo people why they want power in 2015 or what they want power for in the state. They have not also be talking about President Goodluck Jonathan and his Presidential candidacy. They have only concentrated on telling lies against Governor Okorocha, and abusing him.
"For instance, last Tuesday, the PDP guber candidate told journalists that Governor Okorocha has borrowed ₦200 billion. A day after, on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 to be specific, the State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie had a press conference and told his audience that Governor Okorocha had ordered that the billboards of his opponents should be removed.
"The Imo PDP and its governorship candidate always act and talk as if, all they need to make impact in the February election is to tell lies against the governor. They don’t talk about why they want power or what their party did with the 12 years they governed the state. They do not also talk about President Jonathan. It is unfortunate that up till now a party like PDP has no programme to present to Imo people.
"The truth of the matter is that all their allegations are not only false, but do not carry weight. They were only aimed at scratching the intimidating popularity of Governor Okorocha among the Imo populace.
"That the PDP guber candidate who is the Deputy Speaker of the House of representatives and number six citizen in the country could come out to say that his home governor borrowed ₦200 billion, without mentioning the banks and particulars of the transaction, only calls for laughter.
"And he made the false claim few weeks after the Daily Trust newspaper had published the States and how much they owe with Imo State, having ₦12 billion which was also part of the ₦29 billion loan taken by the past PDP Government in the state for which the Okorocha administration had paid more than ₦17 billion.
"And for the allegation of ordering for the destruction of billboards of opponents by governor Okorocha, Imo people would also laugh at these lies because only an unpopular governor confronted by popular candidates could do such a thing. But where the governor is one hundred percent more popular than the other candidates, it becomes a waste of time thinking about what to do with their billboards especially when billboards do not win elections.
"The PDP and its candidates are not campaigning because they said the results of the election in the State would be written in Abuja and announced in Abuja. And they have been saying it with a high level of arrogance. The interesting thing is that this story of writing the result of Imo election in Abuja has been heard by every Imo man and woman. And they are waiting to see how the Imo PDP will achieve such an unlawful act.
"It is also important to mention here that, because the PDP in Imo state is not prepared for election but to write election results, they have boycotted meetings, events and different fora where they could talk about the programme of their party and if they have the courage, talk about the governance of the party in the state for twelve years.
"For instance, on Thursday January 22, 2015, the students and management of Imo State University organized a debate for all the gubernatorial candidates of the major political parties. The candidate of APGA, Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho and Governor Okorocha of APC were all in attendance and they ceased the opportunity to market themselves and their parties, but PDP and its candidate were absent. And that has been the case.
"We challenge the PDP and its candidate to rise to the challenges of the period which do not include throwing stones indiscriminately at a popular candidate like governor Okorocha".
